3.45 Doncaster - Golden Dragon 14/1 with Fred at 9.00 - just hope all 8 go!

Hi The Goddess - it's nice to have fresh input. I'm not keen on that race as an EW play but I can see the attraction of that bet (for a trade). However the dead 8 runners with the risk (of NR/Rule 4) sort of cancels out the potential benefit in my mind. GL

I couldn't post yesterday due to some sudden (and unpaid!) chauffeuring demands! It all looked a bit too Irish for me at Listowel anyway and there were 2 races at Chepstow that I declined to play due to a combination of them looking just too competitive and worries about the ground/going.

I'm still a bit conflicted about all of the potential ew betting races today (imo 14:20, 15:10, 15:20, 19:10). None of them are what I would call quite "filthy" enough, so it would feel a little bit contrived/constructed to play in them but I'm still looking and watching the markets for now.

14:20 Sandown is probably not technically a filthy EW betting race imo. Fav is odds-on but there are way too many other potentially "live" options and potential "lurkers" for the places. However Sand Diego has been calling to me all morning (despite the draw)! and I have capitulated in a small way (EW single).

15:10 Doncaster: It's obviously not  an ew race now! - Dee Ex Bee would have looked the very obvious bet to nothing (on the maths) when there were 5 runners but I think on balance for various reasons (no longer worth noting down) that I would have resisted betting it ew it even if it were a runner.

15:20 Sandown: Now looks a good race on the shape/maths to take on the Gosden Fav with ew singles on both Global Storm and Impatient - but a combination of the draw, a few too many "lurkers" and having totally missed the boat with the prices makes me reluctant to 2-bet in this race.

The 15.10 at Doncaster was the ideal ew race.....as soon as you knew DexB was out.....lumping on, accepting the 20p deduction, and crossing fingers that the 5 ran.

Which they did :-)

Each to their own Kevin - but that's not how I play. I had already written the race off for betting purposes PRIOR to the non runner. I would have watched it with great interest had they all run but without a bet.

16:35 Salisbury: I quite liked the idea of taking on the FAV in this race (Red Missile) with an each way play (or maybe two) against it when it was trading at 5/4 ish (much earlier) - but it's just too competitive (imo) to narrow down to a selection (or two) - and whilst trying to narrow it down I have missed the boat in terms of laying the FAV - it has continued to drift while all the potential selections have contracted - it would have been quite a contrived bet(s) anyway based much more on disliking the fav, rather than the maths, the betting shape or any of the alternatives appealing strongly to me. I will pass.

For later, the 19:10 is still shaping up potentially well.

19:10 Salisbury Update: As already stated, none of the potential races today looked quite perfect for ew thievery but there were a few that looked like they could take on the right shape. The 19:10 didn't really look like a 2-bet to me this morning (betting 2 selections each way in the same race) because the shape/prices didn't quite make it right for that. The shape is still a bit wrong imo (too many potential "lurkers") but the prices are at least now reflecting that fact. So now at 4/1 and 5/1 respectively (Hills & PP) i will be having a small pop at them both (2 x ew singles on the two most exposed runners - Hazm & Hawridge Storm) if I can get both those prices - currently available to buttons on the EW market here (minus commission).

It's not a typical 2-bet race (I usually only like to do a 2-bet if I think it's a 3 horse race for the places - because it needs either the winner or the winner and a place or both placed, to avoid loosing 2 or even 4 stakes). This doesn't look like a 3 horse race for the places to be honest but at the prices stated (4/1 & 5/1) I will play both ew singles in a small way. GL if you play.

Cheers Kenny - keep it small imo though - it still feels a bit too contrived/constructed for a big ew bet or an ew 2-bet.

If I'm honest I'm probably a bit too trigger happy at the moment, having got away with quite a lot of borderline bets lately (i.e. I have been getting away with backing all the winners & placers and managing to dodge all the losers/unplaced).

It's a fine line and I suppose it's those kind of races (that make all the difference imo) where I was hoping this thread would stimulate some discussion. The (very fine) balance (imo) between playing too tight (all bets are very obvious but there are too few of them) and playing too loose (manufacturing bets that aren't really there and backing too many unplaced). I think I have the right balance most of the time but really would have liked to have heard from others (be it agreement or disagreement - just another view). Oh well. Good luck to us Kenny, but keep it smallish!!

Yep - we got the fav well beat - but there (obviously now!) were just too many potential "lurkers".

It's probably for the best, I have had a good run at playing a bit too loose - I knew I needed to tighten it up a bit!

A familiar dilemma, the best (Filthy Each Way) race of the day (at 17:45) - for the foundation of all my ew multiples - is the dead 8 runners and will be run several hours later than the races I would like to combine with it in multiples. So fear of a NR and the loss of the 3 places for ew purposes is holding me back from any multiples at the moment.

This has happened a few times recently and all 8 have then gone on to run in the later (ew banker) race - but obviously the race is a completely different proposition (in shops) if reduced to 7 runners, so holding fire for now.

Anyone else got any views, thoughts, selections?

vwd Skip!

I could have done with Ventura Flame (beaten a nose into 4th) hanging on to third place but it's still an absolutely cracking result and 4/1 is a crazy ISP. I honestly thought the betting market stunk but I kept on going back in for more LoveShockedLaugh! I really still can't believe the prices matched on here in the EW market, thought I must be on two non-triers at one point.

It was worth the wait!

wtf Kenny? - I know I'm after-timing (and at several points before the off I was very suspicious of the betting) but that was a classic - maths/shape etc, etc...

Only one race today of any punting interest........ And then only if 8 runners...... When Armoury would be a steal...

That race looks very promising on maths/shape IF all 8 come go into the stalls. Slight concern at the money for the other O'Brien horse (Arizona) - will wait and watch the market for now. The 14:45 at Bath might be a place bet tempter (Summer Skies) imo for a small ew double if all 5 were to run.

Arizona and Armory both "tradable/playable " @ the prices for a guaranteed return.

Same here skip - 17:30 looks the only possible race  - and I think I would want to see the market looking a bit more filthy before playing in that one.

Some grim looking days ahead imo - mostly seaside meetings with small fields!

Yesterdays National Stakes was a corker.

Armory 4/1 freely available on high street early doors

and you could lay 6.2 win and 1.30 ish a place here for a reasonable sum .
By:

When: 16 Sep 19 13:11
Could easily lay it at 4.3 in the Each Way market so yes it was free money..... If your into that sort of thing....

I did Armoury and Arizona ew - and I'm always happy to let them run if I'm happy with my prices.

I think I won about £9 quid! Cry - But obviously I was just very happy/lucky (and most of all relieved!) to see them both place, given how the race panned out, it could have been a bit disastrous imo.

I know I need to tighten up - but to be fair, playing (a bit) loose (for me) has paid well recently, so I am struggling to reign myself in.

Like Affluence in the 4.20W as a Filthy EW bet, fit from flat, ran well at Goodwood after 2 good wins at 1m2fs and 1m4fs, nice flat track for him, has to get placed doesn't he?
