I knew this thread would have some downsides! You lot (Jonmh, Skip & Kenny) all betting on it have got me soooo conflicted about Say It Simple (in the 18:00 at Wolver)!!! The best compromise I can see is hoping it wins for you at a very short price! That way I can be pleased for you but have some justification for not betting it myself.
I will resist (I think!) - and wish you luck through gritted teeth. Still pondering the race at Wolver that i mentioned earlier (which ought to mean no bet!) - but I think the MJ horse in the 20:30 (Wadacre Galoubet) is actually gonna suck me in at the current prices! ![]() |

Morning all,
I can't say I'm not a tiny bit gutted about the 20:30 last night (it would have been quite a return because I was a very bad lad and over-bet the MJ horse quite heavily - the more it drifted - the more I had on - and boy did it ever drift!!). It was totally friendless in all the markets. On the BF EW market I took a little bit of 6.40 initially and was very happy with that! Then I took a little 7.40/7.60, then some 8.40/8.60 and then 9.40/9.60!! I didn't get any of the 10.00 or 11.00 because although (unlike most) I do trust the stable, I had a few alarm bells ringing by then!! So I was glad to see it adjust downwards (a little bit) before the off! I did similar (chased out a price that looked VERY wrong to me) in the place only and the 4 place market. So I did ok. I didn't lay anything off (idiot with hindsight as it went to 1.06 in-running), and i am gutted to have got passed on the inside (!!) by a 66/1 (146 BfSP) shot in the shadow of the post. In summary I ended up almost treble staked on something I originally intended to bet to half my normal ew single stake. So mixed emotions - disappointed in myself for getting too involved (thought those days were behind me) - some relief, in that it could have been much worse for me (over-staked on a massive drifter!)- but obviously it was very, very close to a really very decent pay, so primarily I still just feel a bit robbed despite an ok return. I take comfort/consolation in that I got two things very right imo (which when combined are the foundation of many good ew bets imo): 1) I thought the odd-on fav wasn't bulletproof and was way too short - once raced, finished second to a good horse (but in a really very slowly run race), the winner of that race won so easily it was a joke and something/anything had to come second to it. Even the racing post write up used the word "flattered". Obviously it didn't achieve a meaningful rating from just the one run but on all the ratings that i respect it achieved very little and hadn't done anywhere near enough to be odds-on in a maiden racing on an artificial surface for the first time. 2) My EW selection against it (Wadacre Galoubet) is clearly no world beater but (because both it's previous races were in filthy each way races where I had bet on other runners!) I had watched replays of it's previous runs many times. First time out it was a baby - missed the break, pulled, looked to have a mind of his own, etc. But second time out I marked it down as (although possibly one paced) a likely big improver. I couldn't have the Balding filly Badessa (FTO) because although they can win FTO I mentally consider his to come on a tonne for the first run. I was also conscious it might be too short due to money running-on to the Jockey (already ridden 3 winners). Then despite their (big time bandits in my mind) credentials I couldn't have the Kelleway trained, Kelly ridden Star Talent even in new head-gear. That didn't leave much else to worry about (so I thought anyway!!). Oh well - onwards and upwards. The slow drip fills the bucket! - Here endeth my after-timing rant for the day! |

Got carried away there ^ Forgot to say - no filthy ew bets from me today!I wasn't in the right frame of mind to look at or comment on the cards objectively last night! - but having looked again today (although there are lots of races that warrant a closer look - non-handicaps with 8+ runners), I can't see anything that wouldn't feel a bit too contrived/constructed. I whittled it down to the 14:20, 16:10 and 16:25 - and could forgive anyone having a pop - but it's not for me. |

16.25??

Hi Kenny - it might be a combination of (slight) tilt from the 20:30 last night and the effect this thread is having on me - but my normally cast iron discipline (lol) is beginning to resemble that of a 5 year old with ADHD that has just washed down a tube of Smarties with a litre of Sunny Delight!
I am now leaning towards Amber Island ew in the 14:20 Leicester. There are way too many imponderables for a sane/big bet but I can't get past that it finished in front of Pocket Square last time out and Pocket won so nicely/tidily (was a borderline bet that I resisted!) on Saturday. This is probably a better race and has way too many First Time Outers from capable stables - yet Amber Island is calling me ffs! 16:25 looked possible but decided not for me. GL |

By:
Will leave it out..I do not trust Charlie Appleby stable..best of luck if you play!
|
|
By:
Amber Island for me........
|

Well done lads!

Kenny - It wasn't a monster bet but I might just treat my "inner 5 year old self" to a six pack of monster munch!Skip - thanks so much for the post - your confirmation made me feel less guilty just before the off! (seriously - keep posting please mate) Probably no more for me now (Mr Discipline of Steel! ) - but the non-runner has made the 16:10 Worcester much more interesting imo!!!!! ![]() Am I beyond help iyo?? ![]() |

Well ditched sttlm - I struggle to play with any confidence in claimers and sellers - I always take a keen interest in first time headgear in that type of (low grade) race though. It wasn't a bet for me but the First Time blinkered Osborne Horse (Twittering) wins the Seller (15:20) at Leicester - 14/1 Industry SP . |

Cotton End is obvious I know but looks really solid at Worcs..
|

Cheers Skip (what is your preferred name abbreviation btw?) - Cotton End - did what it should (2nd), so no real harm done.
Stewarts - please stop trying to encourage me to bet in HC's!! - Just kidding, all input welcome. Keep them coming. Back shortly with some initial thoughts on a (tricky imo but) potentially good playing day (if no NR's in the 8 runner races!). |

praying they all stay in at 7.00k

Amen! Kenny. Sorry to assume but you have never corrected me - You are Kenny from Sofia, yes? (Rather than Sofia from Kenny!!?)

yep..thats where I was working when I joined in 2005.

Sorry about that Andrew, i'd have backed that horse again in that race, can't figure out why ran so badly!
|
|
By:
Stewarts - no worries - I always have a look at your picks with interest.
I presume the "Andrew" reference (above) ^ is a typo/wrong thread? - I used to do a bit of short priced laying (I prefer to bet ew against them these days) but i'm not Andrew. You wouldn't wanna fly on anything that I had worked on! ![]() |
|
By:
Yes sorry, As i've put on KS thread think Jaxlight is a cracking bet for your EW purposes at 11/4, 1/4.

My current view of the day is that as well as a couple of ew singles I would like to do an ew acc and maybe even some permed ew accs! However the day seem to revolve (imo) around a couple of 8 runner races that have a 5 hour gap between them - so anything other than singles closer to the off time seems a bit risky to decent stakes. Also the ew acca would involve including Listowel and that makes me reluctant too!
13:40 Carlisle - Market has nice shape but too many FTO lurkers & lightly raced possible improvers imo - Pass. 13:55 Listowel - Really does look a 3 horse race (famous last words in Ireland imo! & the Bolger horse could be something/anything. - Still conflicted but very tempted to do each way both Sheckhem & Maker of Kings if it looks likely all 8 will run. 14:40 Uttox - Lovely market shape, contemplating each ways on both Champagne Mist and Cotswold Prince. The former looks more likely to have a win shout at shorter odds. CM looks exposed/ordinary but it's a very uncompetitive race, so looks a bet to nothing at the prices with vague hope that a Tongue Tie and extra half mile might coax improvement?? 19:00 Kemp - Finding this so hard! Fav looks a bit bulletproof to be fair and if that were to leave the other 3 fighting for 2 places I wouldn't wanna bet my life on any of them! And that is all assuming no NR in the next 7 hours (or at the stalls entry!). Of the 3, I'm equally divided - Persuer (Could be anything and why the long break?), Royal Family (is too big to lay but has the profile I would like to lay at a short price - looks over-rated and flattered imo but this race is potentially so poor bar the fav that it could still be good enough! Elegant Love has a horrid profile too - so slightly worried I fancy (ew) a horse rated just 64. Help!! Will try to clarify some of that pre-racing but any other views/opinions really appreciated today folks! |

Don't think you can go far wrong in the 1.55 List race with Shekhem esp if you can get 3/1 or bigger.
|
|
By:
That 2.40 looks pretty stonewall as well, just have to wonder if the 2nd fav Champagne West will last out 2 1/2m if he pulls hard again.
Would think that 4 EW of trebles with Shekhem, Champagne Mist/Cotswald Prince and Jaxlight/Just Marvin should make a winning return. |
|
By:
Sorry stewarts - just back from "shopping". I hope you placed the permed ew bet you suggested above (at 13:36) - well done so far!
I'm afraid I had already left home before your 13:36 post - but tbf I would never have included the 16:55 anyway (strictly no ew's in HCaps for me - 99% of the time!). I will now watch it with great interest though and will be cheering your 2 on, in the hope that it's a nice few place trebles and the win treble for you! The 19:00 Kempton has basically fried my brain!! - As per my 12:02 post I did at least do the 2 x 2 ew SINGLES in the 13:55 and 14:40 that i outlined - so all should be good here (although I got shorter than hoped for prices about both the winners and think I was a little fortunate to get both the 3rd's!). Tempering my mood is the fact that I DO NOT have the ew treble or even any permed trebles running on to the 16:55 (the race you suggested) or the 19:00 Kempton (which was always going to be my intended 3rd race for the ew trebles!). ![]() ![]() ![]() The bet I had planned and wrote out (I still have the slips!) was 8 permed ew trebles 2 x 2 x 2 (16 steaks!) on the 13:55, 14:40 and 19:00. Due to thinking it actually looks bombproof I wrote out the Fav Strelka (wouldn't have taken a price) and Elegant Love (would have taken the 8/1) as my 2 in the 19:00. But I just couldn't bring myself to risk 16 (even fairly small stakes) due to a combination of the first race being Irish, a 5 hour gap between two eight runner races and kind of hating (not being able to feel good about) any of the 2nd, 3rd & 4th in the market for various reasons. I hope some of you other bandits (Skip, John, Kenny, etc) are on the treble in some way shape or form - but I think I will now have to just watch the race (from behind the sofa) and hope the exposed Evans horse doesn't pull of a miracle. I would selfishly kind of like it to finish out of the frame now tbh but I have my doubts about both Persuer & Royal Family. Aaaaaaarrrrrrrgggghhhhhhh !!!!! |
|
By:
Hope so TM, did the EW doubles as well so in for a right few quid if one of them wins, hope it's the bigger priced one now!
Did you do the other 2 winners Ew? |
|
By:
Ah see you did!
|
|
By:
Nice! - good luck mate.
Yes - did I both the winners 5/2 and 9/4 (mostly) and both the 3rd's - so it's been a good day - just being greedy really but the 19:00 has broken my head! |
|
By:
^ * I did...
|
|
By:
ul stewart - still a nice bet/return though. Well done.
|
|
By:
Done by a 16/1 shot, which i'd backed when it won over C/D earlier, never mind one 2nd, think should just cover the bets with a bit on top.
|
|
By:
Won just over 50% of stake, but so close to a big payday!
Can't help with 7.00K, i'm out tonight and haven't looked, good luck TM! |
|
By:
Going in quite large on amy murphy hoss in 7.00..will be gutted and surprised if it doesn't frame.
|
|
By:
Where were you at Midday when I needed that kind of direction ffs! - Just kidding - GL Kenny - the race has given me "dartitus" (RIP Eric Bristow) - I just can't do any of them.
|
|
By:
As happy as I could be with that outcome - seems the fav was (as it appeared) completely bulletproof/bombproof!
I hope I didn't steer anyone in the direction of the Evans horse for a place - I was pleased to see it not place under the circumstances! I've seen similar shaped races a good few times - but i really can't remember any previous race leaving me so undecided/divided for the places - so of course they finish in market order! Good night. |

It's not often I would say Frankie is one to back each way .....but I have to admit I think dame mailiot is a good bet in the Park Hill..

1.55 List-5
2.30 List-2 4.15 List-1 and 7 Whether any of them win is another question, but the maths look right for 1st and 3rd race, and think 2nd race will be hard to keep out of the frame. |
