Thought I had the first one in there for Kim at 9s
Went 1.16 so easy trade out but annoyingly beaten by the 25/1 complete outsider Good result for the Placepot though |

By:
UL there- the winner had more P's than Captain Birdseye as they said on WHill radio...

Today's in form trainers runners...
At Fontwell, Neil Mulholland has 2 long priced ones in the first but the one that catches the eye is 4.45 Tuscan Rose, with STD aboard, about 3/1 Also at Fontwell Joe Tizzard runs 2... 2.30 Defi Nonantais and 3.05 Hatos, both around 4/1 Over to Southwell... NTD has the fav Mr Mackay in the 2.43 and Kim Bailey runs Jeudidee in the 5.00, around 8/1 Gl all |

Reg, in form trainers, are you using the last 7 or 14 days?
|
|
By:
NICE punt landed Fontwell.
|
|
By:
Jinxy, last couple of weeks roughly, but just in my head as to who's doing OK
But, as I speak, Neil Mulholland has Super Sam win the first at Fontwell I had a few bob on at 15 on here when I noticed it was coming in from 30 plus earlier It's won at about 8/1 |
|

Exactly Glasgow
Hope you joined in |
|
By:
Cheers Reg, my inform trainers for the day, all codes, Mulholland, Jack Jones, Varian and Beckett. As you said, that was a nice start for Mulholland!
|
|
By:
Small sample I know, but Ben Pauling had 2 winners at Fontwell today
Might be joining the hot list Got 2 other fancied runners at the course later |
|
By:
Nice winner for Beckett there, nice price too at 24.6 (I am I Said)

By:
Marine Nationale back on Nov 10th. Interesting to see if all is well.

|
By:
Jinxy, well done
I follow Beckett myself but was away from the action from mid afternoon onwards Would have had a little go BTW, all those NH horses I put up earlier, all but one got placed, plus the Mulholland winner at 8s Think I'll leave this thread until Cheltenham this weekend... I've seen NTD has a few fancied ones on Friday |
|
By:
Pleasantly surprised to see the thread still going.
Has Nicholls had a winning favourite since the jumps season started properly? I think there were 8 losing favourites over the last fortnight, including several at odds on. Anyone who stupidly thought that someone who hates losing might have his horses fit would already done a small fortune. |
|
By:
Probably lucky for Nicholls that nobody appears to know the answer.
Opening novice chase the best race of the day. No bet, but I would go with the outsider of three on the basis he has disappointed less than the other two. Johnnywho fell way short of fulfilling that early promise. The way O'Neill rides he will probably have to win on the bridle. |
|
By:
Will he progress this time? I wouldn't bank on it. A proper battle is going to ask far more of horse and rider.
Bugise Seagull would have been much better off racing on the inside of a leader who was wanting to go left. I think he can be marked up a little, and should be winning races. |
|
By:
Looks like I spoke too soon about the thread. Cheltenham and not a dickie bird.
Losing track of the number of horses I have backed recently (over both codes) that have been weak in the market, and then ran abysmally. Add Support Act to that list. Sweated, jumped terrible, and travelled like a carthorse. Hard to get much worse than that. If this is the trainer's best horse he must be bordering on the clueless to send it out to run like that. After that probably for the best that Kingston James is my only other bet. Ominously, that has also drifted. Very poor build up from Racing TV. Not even half an hour. They could have shown Lucky and Mullins at any time. |
|
By:
I also had a bit on Support Act
![]() Main bet Scarface(2.25) eway, Pricewise knackered the price last night so not as much on. |
|
By:
Only bet today Atlanta Brave ew in the next
|

By:
strictlyadancer 4,s out to 11,s

By:
Kingston James, another absolute duffer. I think he would have wanted to make the running, but there was no plan b, and the two rags did nothing but set the race up for the closers. Either way, a useless performance.

By:
As I posted earlier about NTD having a few fancied runners, got The Newest One at 16s, which covered the days bets, and also got me the Placepot up... Only result race really
Gonna follow them and the Skeltons tomorrow, plus Kim got 2 runners Just a scattergun approach like today for me again tomorrow Gl all |

Two I mentioned resulted in the old chestnut ' the trainer could offer no explanation'. Great, but both drifted having shortened earlier in the week. How often does this seeming back to lay scenario happen?
Maybe I should put tips up on the Stewards Reports Site, it might save some time. Amongst other runners to bomb, I could possibly understand that Gale Mahler might have had one race too many, but that doesn't really explain the way it jumped. It continually landed in heap, and leaning away to it's right. Winner jumped well, and you can't be losing a length or more at nearly every hurdle. |
|
By:
DD, agree about Gale Mahler jumping but the winner could be very good
Haven't done an Antepost bet for years , but was tempted with the quotes of 25s for Cheltenham |
|
By:
Unexpected Party is too big at 16/1 with s**bet in the Old Roan on Sunday.
|
|
By:
Support Act's owners have a runner in the first at Newbury tomorrow. Looks a horrible race, but it wouldn't be the first time that an owner has followed a shocker with a winner. Interesting to see if this one goes the opposite way in the market to Support Act.

Pertemps qualifier Cheltenham tomorrow 13 declared
This must be the highest rated in history? Bottom weight rated 126. |
|
By:
The problem looking ahead with those two winning novices yesterday is what they beat on the day, and the fact there will be loads of potential opposition to come out between now and March. Both also had the run of the race. The Skelton novice had a two length buffer over a horse jumping poorly. It wasn't a surprise that he was able to conserve and go clear. The other novice was a closers race with the two rags softening up the third favourite. Twiston-Davies also prone to firing off his better horses earlier in the season than other trainers. The horse is a strong stayer, but his jumping is ordinary. That needs to be tidied up.

Another bloodbath today. Even Quinault who had given me four successful returns - something akin to a miracle - ran a stone below, not even managing to lead.
Just two general points:- Tony McCoy is the most successful national hunt jock in history so why do none of the current batch even try to ride like him. Like him meaning grabbing a tight hold of a horse, and making it's mind up at the obstacles. That's most of the fences, not the odd one. Are they just too lazy? Invariably, these days jocks do little more than school round before having a go over the last two. Hardly anyone wins a race 'out in the country', and if it does happen they are hailed as some sort of genius. I was going to criticise Powell for his ride on Lord Of Thunder, but then I thought he's only doing what they all do. Basically, leaving a horse to it's own devices, and teaching it nothing. Surely the jock should be the boss of the partnership? I have always defended national hunt, but this sort of negative riding is diminishing the entertainment value of the game. Made this point before, but bumpers, if you put a little effort in, were an excellent betting medium. Unfortunately, the horses with attractive pedigrees that would have been winning these races are now too often being sent out for a jolly. That is unless the stable want to land a tickle. Of course your average punter wouldn't have any idea in advance which are going to be the punted one's. Hence you get results like the last at Cheltenham. Small trainer - with no obvious form in bumpers - gets one fit, is obviously trying to win, and lands a nice little punt. This has happened more and more over the last few seasons. Contrast the way the winner was positioned to the ride Skelton gave the second. |

I like Torn And Frayed in the Veterans Chase for the in-form NTD.
Misses the 22-23 season but came back last term and ran well in some top handicaps. Should be ready for this and will be fine on ground |
|
By:
Old Roan Chase quite a small field with only the 5rnrs.
£45K to the Wnr.At least they'll all go home with something if they finish. |
|
By:
Reasonable card at Chepstow tomorrow, but from a punting perspective the three most interesting races are a nightmare. You can have no confidence that Nicholls' horses are fit enough, you have no idea what Skelton will be up to from race to another, and for good measure O'Brien has a runner in the bumper as well.
|
|
By:
if punters are waiting to back Nichols horses at some point maybe tomorrow, maybe wetherby, you going to have to take a punt and back him blind risk a few sprats to catch a big fish,if you wait for the evidence the big fish will have swam away and you,ll be backing under the odds with the crowd ,the late drifts on the shorter ones have been a good indicator so far and will probably be the same in the 2 novice hurdlers tomorrow

Couple I'm backing at double figures tomorrow
