Despite conflicts of opinion from frankie and gosden and negative comments from plenty of others here, WOD runs. I'm happy to be proven wrong as WOD strikes me as complete non Epsom type, and WOD really must be the 'freak' gosden has been ranting about..Tongue Out

Wings of Desire should place and win the Leger

I will be utterly astounded if Ulysses is beaten, he looks a completely different class of animal to the others.

Wings of Desire should place, Moonlight Magic and Cloth Of Stars look quite similar, neither should be good enough to win.

For all the talk of openness, the top 3 in the betting will finish 1-2-3

1. Ulysses 11/2
2. Us Army Ranger 11/4 fav
3. Wings Of Desire 9/2

Us Army Ranger will be 11/4 fav only if aob says he's the best three year old he has ever trained

GIGYou're in Banstead and I'm in Cheam, a stone's throw away.I'm on UAR and PD and Harzand (nrnb) and still losing money on the Derby book because I took a position on So Mi Dar and Minding which are non runners - some you win, some you lose; I'm not confident on UAR but just hopeful for a massive improvement post Chester Vase - I liked the way he travelled there. I'm also hoping Moore chooses him and not one of his stablemates which I believe is the reason he's taken a walk in the market at the present moment.I'm not a fan of the others including WOD despite the confidence of Gosden - he'd the same opinion with Linguistic. The others eg Ulysses - no way - possibly an afterthought post the eclipse of Midterm; Cloth Of Stars, I might do a forecast with UAR and PD, a  tricast for fun if permissible in the Derby.Good ground would be ok for most, if softer, the Irish contingent eg Harzand, would be in his element.

got all my free bets on harzand and cannot lay off of course.  Looks another complete non epsom type but hopefully  when it speeds around the epsom ends the ground will Be sticky enough for it not to fly off the bends. lol.

Never realised he wasnt trained by Henry for his debut Figgis.
Anyway i hope Harmonica Phils right and Oneyall isnt as Ulysess is the only loser in the book now Minding and The Gurkha have been taken out.
Best Derby market in many /many years for me.

anyhorse which has been backed down like that For a premier group 1 race probably needs to be taken seriously.  I probably will need to put a twenty squid on it to cover up, but at those odds SadCryCry

GIG, I've spent all day at the track (a stone's throw from you).  It never once looked like raining and it's not forecast to rain all week apart from drizzle tomorrow morning.

But best of luck ramping rain if you need to lay off your Harzand bet mate.

You don't need to send me any pics from Banstead old boy. Like I said I was at the racecourse (in Epsom where they run the Derby).

Your brief sojourn outside did highlight one thing though - it's definitely windy.

Can we agree on windy, cloudy and no ****g chance of any appreciable rain?!

I'm 20 mins-ish from Tattenham Corner on the rattler mate.  Fancied a walk and a pint and one of my little uns loves a train ride...where else would one head during Derby week?! Happy

Tell you something else too - I stuck it on the line and didn't pack his rain mac (because it's not going to rain)....does that make me Bad Dad?!?
(Was definitely cloudy but he's alright with clouds as long as you give him a stick to poke the horse poo with)

Any views on the draw?

Assuming a couple of the AOB horses and possibly Harzand come out, perhaps looking at a field of around 15?

Looking at the four Oaks with similar sized fields over last 10 years and Sir Percy's Derby only one of 15 win and placed horses drawn low - obviously much too small a sample size to be dogmatic but can see draw becoming a topic of conversation post Thursday.

Jockeyship could become a premium factor too, hope we're not looking at a couple of hard luck stories come Saturday evening.

It's already getting some action on Twitter, RH.  Some look at the stats on those draw low and panic.  Others delving deeper and suggesting those horses were pants anyway.

Does beg the question, can anyone think of a horse drawn 1 or 2 that got stuffed (because of the draw) and went on to prove himself the best horse?

draw isn;t massively significant.  The big question is, which AOB runner will become the hare?

Clerk of the course Andrew Cooper is waiting to see how much rain falls in the next 24 hours before thinking whether or not to water the track.

"I'd call it the fast side of good ground. It's good, with good to firm places, he said. We've got some rain forecast over the next 24 hours. I don't think we'll see anything until four or five o'clock Tuesday morning with the risk of rain all through the morning. The forecasts are suggesting we'll see about five millimetres or maybe a bit more. Rain would be welcome after being dry for a week. The outlook for Wednesday and Thursday is to some to degree unsettled but with no real likelihood of either day yielding much in the way of rain, but with the risk of scattered showers. It looks more settled towards the end of the week - cloudy, a bit overcast with temperatures climbing back up towards the late teens. As for watering, we'll see what happens in the next 24 hours. I think that will be key as to how we end up. We are likely to be in the five to 10 millimetres territory. If we start the meeting at, or near, good, that would be great. Ideally, I'd say I'd probably run the Derby on ground similar to what we are now."

ah, that's right - think his stats take a holistic approach to the race in question, can remember him putting me right when I got confused on one of these threads regarding the reversal of the right handed draw numbers a few years back...

Mind, I'm easily confused - still trying to figure out the significance of GIG putting his washing out earlier today Grin
