Jamesp, haven't got access to my record for Footstepsinthesand year. Can you please tell me what time he achieved in the guineas?
By:
1m 36.10s
By:
thanks Ben, What was the going? The time seems quick to me.

Like a road and one of the reasons Dubawi was beaten.

By:
Made up for it in the Irish version

With give yes.

For the record, the following horses won the Guineas in a faster time than Footstepsinthesand: Tirol in 1990 (1:35.84, good to firm), Zafonic in 1993 (1:35.32, good), Mister Baileys in 1994 (1:35.08, good to firm, still the fastest ever 2000 Guineas), Pennekamp in 1995 (1:35.16, good to firm), Entrepreneur in 1997 (1:35.64, good),**ney Rebel in 2007 (1:35.28, good to firm) and Sea The Stars in 2009 (1:35.88, good to firm). Interestingly, thanks to the (non-)watering policy at Newmarket during the Guineas festival, two fillies have won the 1000 Guineas in a faster time than Mister Baileys achieved in the 2000 Guineas: Finsceal Beo in 2007 (1:34.94, good to firm) and last year Ghanaati won in an astonishing time of 1:34.22 (good to firm).

I was under the impression that HAAFD did a fair time when he won the guineas
By:
Haafhd probably recorded a good speed figure, but would not be breaking any course record as the ground was too slow. The year Mister Baileys broke the course record the ground was riding very fast, plus there was probably a track bias to high numbers ( again )
By:
Thanks, push. I still remembered a fast time (comparing to conditions)....but I have no times with me. What is your opinion of the 2,000gns as it stands?
By:
Haafhd's winning time was 1:36.64 (on good ground).
By:
TIROL1982, thats a big question, will have to wait and see what the Ballydoyle plans are , and see if the trials produce anything ( although as a far as the 2000 Guineas goes, they tend to go straight there ). Haafhd / Kings Best both ran in the Craven, in the last 10 years.

Someone is keen on the chances of HOF being placed in the Guineas £159 waiting to be matched on here @5.9 , if you can get on with the bookies @ 40-1 you can have 10-1 the place.

I was really disappointed that Suroor didnt say anything on a number of their 2yos:
Kingsfort (not even listed as in training on their website) Chabal (likewise) Emerald Commander (decent 2nd to Jan Vermeer) Burj Nahar (Grp1 pedigree) Modeyra (Grp1 pedigree) Padmini (Grp1 pedigree) Perfect Note (Grp1 pedigree) Buzzword (I think is pretty underrated and has fairly decent form) and the big one for me: ZEITOPER Anyone heard news about any of the above???? |
By:
Take it you like Godolphin horses then ?
By:
I thought they had a very decent crop last year yes.
All of the above caught my eye either by their performances or pedigrees and were penned into my notebook as one's to follow. I try whereever possible to update the notebook over the winter, but unfortunately have heard very little about those I mentiond. |
By:
agree about Zeittoper.....They have their trials beginning of April...you will know then!!!
By:
push, clue. has the 40/1 gone with laddys as the other will only give you 2p ew
By:
push, the fact that the 4.9 - 1 is still available to lay says that not many keen to lay him.
By:
Shark12, you can add Hibaayeb to the list - Godolphin bought the Fillies Mile winner out of Clive Brittain's yard at the end of last year. Pay no attention to the list of horses in training on the Godolphin website - they are notoriously slow in updating it.

Bit of a move for HOF today all the 40-1 has gone and some firms as low as 20-1.

Push, Thanks for pointing out the short price request for the HOF place market.....I managed to get a few bob EW @40/1, and layed the place, so in effect got a free bet, Thanks again. I'll be buying you a pint or three if HOF obliges.

No problem, glad you could get on, hope you make some money out of it . :)

Any idea which trial he goes?
By:
Best to ask on the Bloodstock forum, they seem to know plenty about him.

I've not backed Hearts Of Fire for the Guineas, but I'd really love him to win it. What a great result it would be for the 'little trainer'. Pat Eddery deserves to get a better class of horse from bigger owners - he just needs a classic winner to make it to the 'big time' as a trainer. HOF is a seriously good horse - not only did the horse he beat in Italy go on to win the Breeders Cup Juvenile, but the Gran Criterium third Mata Keranjang (beaten 5 lengths) is a pretty decent horse, he was only beaten a couple of lengths in the Gr.3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes and had earlier been beaten just half a length by Vale Of York at Goodwood and 1¼ lengths by Xtension in the Vintage Stakes, he had even got to within 1½ lengths of Special Duty in the Prix Yacowlef over 5f.
I have two concerns about HOF as a Guineas candidate: 1) His two latest wins (including the victory at San Siro that everyone is concentrating on) have come on soft ground; 2) Two separate bits of collateral form (one involving Mata Keranjang and Elusive Pimpernel, and another involving Cadley Road and Shakespearean) suggest that he has a huge amount to find with St Nicholas Abbey. |

Kirk St Moritz, HOF goes straight for the 2000, no prep run.
JamesP, perhaps you would be interested to see the Firebreak thread on B&B where we have been discussing some of your points above. |
