Of course it is. But I can't devote any time for research right now. If I'm not satisfied with the results, I might try and look for a better perspective. Thank you for the tip, I'll take it into account if I feel the need to. I totally undertand why you wouldn't want to just give away the information, and you are doing the right thing.
Her is a simple system to get you started on your persuit.
Premiership.20 teams 19 play 19 =380 games.. 0-0 happens 26 times on average.true odds 14/1.
even on here average odds 11.When do these 0-0 happen? last season 23 games into the season before you had one and alot when they know they are safe from regalation at the end of the seasonIt is not rocket science but happens year in year out.Get the picture.

Nice one, forward. Yet, I'm not looking for an edge in a market the conventional way. I come from the simple idea that if I have access to the bets of a person who continuesly loses in the long term, and I can beat the rake, I'll make profit opposing his selections. Right now, I've given up the idea that I myself can beat the game. Basically, I am just honest with myself, and have changed the whole way I am looking on Betfair as profit opportunity. Right now, I'm laying horses. I'm neither British, nor Irish, nor French, nor from any other country where horse racing is popular. If I were to try and look for an edge...oh dear. But if I know that X tips regularly, and in the long term is a losing player, I'll lay him. Hey, if Y sucks at NBA tipping do please tell me what his next bet is. If TFR has a 100% unders tip, I'm there helping him getting matched. I've taken my opinion out of the game as I find it hindering rather than helping.

You are not concentrating on your objective.Every time you oppose any given selection you are placing a bet.It does not matter if you back or lay as they are the same. This is true as the market on here is 98%.If you want to make a profit the only way is to have an advantage. The reverse is true in any given situation as black is white night and day and backing and laying. If you do not understand the market then it is unlikely you wil be around for long.

If you lay 0-0 you will have a profit before any losses may occure. This is proven.

I still think that you are missing my point. I have admitted to myself that, as for now, no matter how hard I try, I will not be able to beat the game by myself. Furthermore, I 've been here long enough to know that I suck. Why? Because I'm just another punter. To win in this game you'd have to take it extremely seriously, and devote a lot time and effort, and even then it's not certain that you will win.

So what I did is look around for some investments. I don't want to pay for services so I look for something that is free. Spotlight's tips are free, and they are bound to be -EV. Why? Well, imagine if the Spotlight's tips were +EV. The most popular tip on every single race to be +EV. Bookies wouldn't exist, or would adjust so that the prices of the horses were so low that the tips become -EV again. I'm not laying at the bookies' prices but then again, the Spotlight isn't winning at exchange prices either. Conclusion, I'll try a small investment in opposing the Spotlight and will see what it delivers. I look at it just like I would look at the paid service of a proven professional punter, an investment. I disagree with the belief that you should always follow your own opinon on when betting on sports because there is a ton of information out there that comes from people who know/don't know what they are talikng about, and if you know how to filter it out, you could still make a profit just from that.

Also, in essence, I'm doing what you are doing. I understand very well what you are pointing out about the 0-0s. And it seems a great possibility. But, if you are laying the 0-0 longterm, you are not really basing your lays on your analytical skills, you betting according the history of the given event. This is what I do as well. Historically, the Spotlight is losing money, so by opposing it I'd win money. I hope you don't understand me wrong but our lays are both based on wrong information. Just because something has happened in a certain way in history, it doesn't mean that this is guaranteed for the future. It has no connection whatsoever with the current and future events.
Yet, we do it. Why? It's one of the few ways that helps us make sense of the event. Without statistics punters would find it very hard to build an opinion about the outcome.

I'll give an example with the womens' Wimbledon final. I watched Serena in the semifinal. She struggled. I didn't watch Venus but I saw that the odds hadn't fluctuated that much to suggest that she had any problems. Statistics say that Venus has won it 5 times before, Serena 2 times. Venus was the favourite. Yet, at some point, she collapsed mentally. It doesn't say that in the statistics. You'd have to watch the game,a nd see it for yourself. The result was against what was expected, and what the statistics and my impression pointed out as the outcome, because they were essentially irrelevant.

P.S. Cheers Sligo!

A brilliant reply and agree with most of your reasoning.I am most certainly not one to go blind on stats as this would be a road to disaster .What i did wish to point out that as you correctly seen the volitle market like womens tennis which are profitable.Laying spotlight is not the way long term. You are going against yourself some of what you say as you are using the history of what spotlights results have shown you.If it was true that i could makea profit i would be a supporter and would not be repling to this tread as it would interfer with my margin.
What i tried to relate to you is the concise nature of certain markets .Football is a good example. In any given a market it is limited.By its inception it is a competetion and in theory all particptants have a chance .But where the true value arrises is in their true chances. The price of same is often grossly overvalued and under valued.Knowing their true value is the key to making sustainable gains .This takes al little research.Well maybe a little bit more than a little but i think you get the gist. This is how i do it and have been for 5 years.True chancesVprices=value?

Laying spotlight is not the way long term. You are going against yourself some of what you say as you are using the history of what spotlights results have shown you.

It is not as straightforward as that. The spotlight is not a system. It's people. Furthermore, it's people who know their racing, and watch more races per week than I'll watch sports in the next 10 years(probably). They should be profitable punters themselves. They look in a race from more than one point of view, and create a complicated opinion. Yet, they have so far underrformed. Why? Because they bet on every race, thus losing their edge in the process. All I do is take advantage of that. So while I'm drawing conclusions from their history as to what my reasonable expections should be it is not the only reason why I have chosen to lay them. Also, the Spotlight does tend to be overbet imo, which from a layer's perspective is a good thing and increases value.

Maybe you are not aware that when spotlight is compilied it is normally by two wrighters who are experts in their field I.E 7 furlonfs 2miles.These are two different events which demand different abilities. As it is their job to give an unbiased opinion does not mean that they actually would back the selection.Nor would they lay it that is for sure. They have picked the horse with the best known credits .Your system requires you to lay the best and therefore will fail.It would be better investing time to understand why rather than trying to reason to yourself his or her employment contract.Trust me there is better value elsewhere.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you when you say" Maybe you are not aware that when spotlight is compilied it is normally by two wrighters who are experts in their field I.E 7 furlonfs 2miles".

Earlier on this thread I gave a detailed account of the various Spotlight writer's selections for Friday 04/07/09. Let's take Spotlight writer Ben Osborne who had two selections at Salisbury, two selections at Warwick and one selection at Beverley. The races he made a selection in were as follows:-

3yo+ 12f Handicap
3yo 11f Selling
2yo 7f Novice
2yo 6f Nursery
3yo+ 8f Handicap

That's five different distances, three different age groups and five different race types! He's hardly likely to be an expert in all of those areas is he?

And all those other Spotlight writers I mentioned in my earlier post were given the responsibility of making selections over a variety of distances, age groups and race types. This is why, from a laying perspective, they are such an attraction because when you dig deeper and locate their selections that match certain negative criteria such as the one I suggested (beaten favourite last time out) you're giving yourself a much better chance of success.

Who is The Major?
When: 06 Jul 09 06:36
Spotlight writer Frank Carter does most of the 2yo races, Spotlight editor Emily Weber concentrates on sprint handicaps, Chompy will avoid jumps racinf if possible. As a Spotlight writer you'll be allocated one meeting and you'll cover approximately 50-60 horses across 3 or more races. There will also be one or two Spotlighters allocated as 'spare' for the day - they will take up the remainder of the races. The nap selection is chosen by the duty editor for that particular shift.

Well, I just checked, and it turned out that the bets I had for Market Rasen yesterday won 4/7 races. Whoever tipped on that track yesterday was pretty good. I'll take a note on that for the future, and there is the possibility of filtering ths track out.

The bot is set, ithin there is a possiblity that one horse will not be layed due to a high price. However, it's high time I turned back to the right direction.

Don't even consider filtering tracks, the sample is far too small to even think about it, I know when i was using Adrian Massey's data to see if I could spot any worth while patterns, I did notice that from year to year a track could go from a 180% profit to a 80% loss, major swings, this 4 out of 7 could very well be 0 out of 7 next time.

I think the best and most reliable types of filters you can use are possibly class of race, as experts can rate top quality horses better than they can country hacks.

.
Well done as if the true answer to horse racing was in stats there would be no market.
For me its about advantage and spotlight is a guide .I certainly could not lay their selection in most cases as to do so one must have a valid case to reply as put yourself into the situation to wright it.t it and you are dealing with animals.

I've seen worse, but I would have to search my archives for it.

Guys, just give it the time. After all, this is why I am doing this, to see whether I can win in the long term. That's a nasty swing but I can take it.

Get out of this... from spotlight hcps / listed / group2/3 only, no maidens/group 1 etc.
If you wish to post an opinion as to the real possible chances of making a profit from laying spotlight as the orignator of this tread said then could you include all selections not just the ones that you conviently picked out.

Hcaps are the hardest while maidens and group1s, I wouldn't lay them with a barge pole.

FFS, why do I suck so much in calculating the end result?!

Total growth is actually 0.5%. Sorry guys. I suppose that this may be due to the fact that my room is gettin very hot and doesn't relly cool out during the night. So yeah, if I reach 2% growth by the end of today I shall be satisfied, not happy, but satisfied.

Starting bank: 119.46
Current bank: 120.10

Total growth: 0.5%

With filters, more emphasise can simply be the decision of throttle up or down on the amount you wager.

Whether making your selections or following a system or relying on filters to trim selections, people tend to get "rigid" on their wagering.

Even think on this scale;

which tracks are your strongest and weakest? Me - Brighton is the weakest. In that case, rarely even a play there anymore

What is your strongest or weakest distance? Strongest - mile to 13f / all tracks. Weakest - over 2 Mile 4 F.

It is knowledge gained that should be incorporated into your betting.

Shapeshifter, I appretiate your input, yet I thought I made it waterclear by now that horses aren't my thing period. I won't touch staking as that would require me being constantly involved in the betting, and I'm running this on autpilot.

interesting aproach shapeshifter but as soon as you drop your 'weakest' - a.n.other becomes your 'weakest' ;)
