paul collingwood just said it wont last 3 days ''it will be a dried up river bed by day 3''
By:
depends. it could stay like this until day 4. it depends how much grass is holding it together. there's no doubt that it is very dry.
collingwood suggested that it's a day 3 pitch would need to see a few balls going through the top surface tomorrow to be certain that the draw is out of the equation. |

Nearly laid India @2.02.....
By:
Tempting to lay draw here as pitch will only get worse
By:
come on england ! ( thats not my book taking , its a passionate cry for England to win this series !)
aint gonna be a draw is it nige |
By:
Probably not, but if India come in at some point tomorrow morning, score slowly over 2 days, then the picture might look very different
By:
theres absolutely no future in india batting slow though..they need to score quick and post a score, they dont want the spectre of a draw hovering over this game
By:
Why? It's not a defeat. There's some senior players under pressure who would be pleased to get out of this final game without a disaster
By:
when does the Test Match start. I have just woken up or am I still dreaming?
A lot of quality pre match callin here myself included! Could not forsee this! |

By:
well its not a defeat but its a series defeat..better to lose 3-1 trying for 2-2 than lose 2-1 and not give yourself a chance
By:
Losing a series at home is already a disaster. Whether they lose 3-1 or 2-1 doesn't change that.

By:
anyone else think India are a lay here? Wouldn't like to be chasing last on this pitch and think we have the bowlers to get a first innings lead on this pitch if Prior and Root go about their work sensibly.

Queries about pitches in general.....never played cricket...
When I tuned in this morning the first image I saw was a cracked-looking pitch, ok not cracked as such but "craggy" looking, and a tinge of green. Just looking at it, to me it looked "lively" or tricky at least or would become so. The reason I nibbled at India earlier on . Lucky rather than astute![]() Is it the soil that determines the flatness or slowness of pitches? In which case it would be difficult, to say the least, to have a bouncy, lively pitch in India, at any time. Then I heard it wasn't watered for 3 days, but would water not "soften" it somewhat and deaden the pitch? I remember playing gaelic football and soccer in spring time when the weather improved and bare grounds became dry, little grass, you had to get to the pitch of the ball early otherwise it would bounce high or unpredictable. Trying to figure out why the same doesn't apply. Hard and dry should make for "bouncy" and "fast"? As you can see, I'm a little puzzled ![]() |

dont think this pitch is at all bad at the moment yeah a couple have kept low but england have got them selves out
cook never out trott left a str8 one KP silly shot trap had been set for 20 overs bell never looked like scoring |
By:
Silly question - how come we are playing past 90 overs?
By:
90 overs is a minimum nigel India over rate been very good so will play to cut off time
By:
By:
yes nigel

yes nigel

By:
What is very hard to understand is why India, who need a win, seem intent on wasting as much time as possible. Have they all backed the draw?
By:
sageform how can you say that when they have put an xtra 6 overs and counting into todays play by having a gr8 over rate
By:
same again tomorrows 3 sessions and englands won the series.
By:
England are playing not to lose!

This looks very tricky to call
I've kept my powder dry so far and I'm very tempted to lay the draw but another day like today and you suspect it would probably be a draw The England batsmen have got themselves out so maybe he TV pundits are right it's hard to score on but not hard to bat on England won't take any risks you wouldn't have thought they don't need to and I'm begging ink to doubt India have enough to win it if we can hit 250 plus. Is laying India a safer betting proposition?? |
