Have backed the draw at 5/2 in a couple of Ladcrokes shops.

Not many Ranji Trophy games on this ground, but the most recent have been slow, high-scoring draw pitches.

More to the point, I believe a draw would suit both teams here. England would obviously get their series win, while Dhoni et al. would avoid a defeat, which would be enough for Srinivasan (BCCI boss and Super Kings owner), to face down all the calls to sack him immediately. "Avoided defeat ... turned the corner ... signs of promise ... wise head needed ... no time for knee-jerk reactions ... etc."

I can imagine everything Dhoni and the BCCI do from now on will be geared to avoiding defeat and his immediate sacking, thus keeping the advertising and sponsorship deals going for a few weeks more.

Might be total bllocks too, Captain. But at 5/2 I think the draw is a workable starting point even if it is total bllocks.

Definitely workable - Finn having fitness tested tomorrow with a back problem - breaking news on sky.

If Finn misses out, I hope they go for Onions, or maybe take a punt on Meaker. Please not Broad Sad or, God forbid, Bresnan Cry

Very fair post that screaming.

Previously in this series I have been against the result pre-match but this time holding a wait and see plan.

I do believe India would be happy with a face saving draw, and don't see any overly agressive plays likely from Dhoni (unless he has decided his time is up anyway!)

you sure you've got the right grounds screamers?  The old VCA ground is still used for some ranji games and is a road.
we're playing at the VCA stadium.

The "normal" move on India went in as far as 2.42, now 2.44.Happy - looks like this is the sanity point. You can always get a few quid following the trend inwardsHappy. Will be shocked to see it going past 2.4 though. (SO MUCH FOR THAT ANALYSIS, AS I POST I CHECKED THEY ARE NOW 2.38!!!!)

Big lay for me (again!!Grin).

Even if india win the toss I know they'll probably come into about 2.18/2.22. However lose the toss and I think there may be an immediate panic of sorts to 2.8/2.9 - so edge is slightly on the lay. We'll see.

Even if they win the toss I just feel they are (a) very unsure of themselves, (b) an inferior test team (and know it!), and (c) have public on the verge of turning against them - all combining to heap more pressure on them. I believe this will tell at various stages, price will come under pressure more quickly than is normal.

india 6/4 with the bookies. 2.44 on here is an awful price. they've been hammered in the last two games.

there is. They do have a decent record in 'must win' home games but that was when TLM,Dravid,Sehwag,VVS and Zak
were world class. This is a beaten team.  Shades of the last ashes test at Sydney here. Eng should win.

I still can't see this wicket being anything other than a turner. I accept the arguement about saving face with a draw and all that, but surely, surely if you're India you create a result wicket??

Yes it means spin. I'm 'going in' on England. Better spinners and more accomplished batting. Opening posi makes sense to me.

I assume the impressive Yadav is injured???

As for betting, I can't see any reason to get involved at SP. All 3 prices will become more attractive as the game gets underway.

The only 'stake and walk the dog' price is a lay of the draw. Still not tempted though. It will trade shorter.
By:

you dont think India are a joke price here Inj?  How can a team that have been hammered twice in the last
two games be 2.44 jollies??
By:

When: 12 Dec 12 18:09
india will probably be odds on at 40/0 which is likely considering Finn is out
By:

When: 12 Dec 12 18:17
Lix- yes and no!

With these turning pitches one spinner on a roll or one batting side losing the plot can make the match a lottery.

Pujara dropped Cook on 17. He was at slip with a chest guard (!) and shin pads. Catch taken and we could have been looking at 2-1 India.

This series is not unlike the 2005 Ashes. Fine margins. Warne catches KP at the Oval and it it's 2-2, with Oz retaining.

Seriously fine margins.

Agree with you though. Should be 3-1. Let's hope soHappy

By:

When: 12 Dec 12 20:01
Not at SP Lix. Not my style. If the weight of money favours India and possibly the draw, both prices should come in, making them far more layable when they do.

The dog (Eng) seems friendless at this price and therefore will surely trade much higher on Day one, especially if we lose the toss, again. I'm happy to wait and see..

When: 12 Dec 12 22:20
your reasons for assuming that?

this from cricinfo

Pitch and conditions
"White and dry," was the basic description of the pitch on the eve of the Test. It had not been watered for two days so it will spin, the question is how much and how soon. The weather won't be an issue with daytime temperatures in the low 30s.

clay not meaning to have a pop, but theres no logic in a batters paradise..if india were to lose the toss england could just bat them out of the game at their own pace
By:

Had a big fat lay of India on the premise that England are due to win a toss and bat first.
By:

When: 13 Dec 12 00:40
expect some volatility around the toss news ...agree with the general sentiment that if India do bat first and get to 30 for 0 , then the England price might drift to 5.0's and above Cool , certainly Dhoni will not want England to bat first ...in fact , the more i think about the situation, the more i agree, that the toss is massive here
