Well done Jack..very impressive.I lost a couple of stone on the 5-2 but overindulged on the non fast days so i'm back to square one
.I agree that being busy and having stuff to do is key.The weather has been so $hit since the New Year i have become sedentary and there lies the problem. |

Similar story with me. I did the 5:2 for about 2 months, then switched to 6:1 which I've doing for the last 2 months. The weight loss of the first 2 months has been easily maintained on the 6:1. Happy enough with that although I'd need to do more than just fast to lose any more weight now. I've reached my plateau now so if I want to lose more I'll need to exercise (I haven't done any) and/or watch what I'm eating (get strict with low carbs).

I need to 're start my weight loss, been going to Slimming world for ever and a day. Got my four stone award last September then what with Christmas Tec ploughed two stone back on. Agree regards sitting around which I do to much of. Got problems with my knees so easier to sit/lie on the sofa watching sh1t on tv or posting sh1t on here. Then I get bored next thing raiding the cupboard

Eating better is much harder when you're overweight and can't exercise,it was in my case anyway still felt stressed out which triggers your brain into wanting quick fixes of dopamine from sugary crap which keeps your cortisol elevated.
Now my mobility is back I'm able to exercise most days and don't have anything like the stress so have little difficulty with food. Feel for your scenario dan well done with shifting the 4 stone in the first place takes some doing to change. You could have a look into doing some seated stuff (upper body to start depending on health) and take it from there. I started back with resistance bands and worked up,it is possible to get a decent workout from bands and they're safe and quick as you're controlling the tension in each movement,as long as you get your heart going it'll help with sticking to any food plan. |

Each to his own regarding exercise. I hate the gym, exercises etc ...always hated football training.
I need some motivation to do exercise, some goal, some aim....easy when I played football and cricket...now it has to be mowing the lawn, clearing the shed out, going for interesting walks, maybe get the bike oiled when it warms up. |

Vigorous exercise won't achieve much, you'll probably tire yourself out before you start burning fat, feel hungry and give yourself a treat. So you'll put more on than you've just taken off and feel lousy into the bargain.
Steady prolonged exercise is the way to go if you feel the need. Still won't burn much fat though unless you go at it all day. And of course afterwards you'll want to give yourself a reward for being so good. |

Never met anyone who lost weight and didn't fail to put it back.
I blame the NHS for not understanding how to deal with the problem of obesity. All doctors can do is tell us to lose weight and eat a balanced diet. We only have to look around to see how useful that is. And when people get stage 2 diabetes they tell them the same, then give them drugs that makes them hungry all the time. Which doesn't improve their condition, just guarantees that it will get worse. |

Michael Mosley is a doctor who was diagnosed with stage 2 diabetes.
That should make us all worried, because if a doctor doesn't care enough about his own health to see something like diabetes creeping up, what chance have we got of people like him looking after out health? Although he makes documentaries, so he probably made up his diabetes so he could do a show about it. |

I don't know about gym work. The first time I heard of HIIT was watching a video of someone doing running exercises out on a football pitch. I think it was sprinting for a full minute, resting for 30 seconds, then repeating sprint and rest, until they'd done 7 sets in a row. I think the theory behind it is to work the heart muscle more than anything else, and train your body to get better at recovery, which improves your overall fitness. Dr Mosley (and others) claim that you only need to do this once a week as its more efficient than regular exercise or gym visits.

Martin Pipe was also a sticker with diet for his nags, he said in his book that the horse has to lick out every scrap of oats from its manger. If the horse left a single oat they were giving it too much. You never saw one of his horses carrying a belly. |

When I first went to the Cheltenham Festival what struck me about alot of Pipe's horses were they looked scrawny and over worked in comparison to alot of other big NH and flashy French breds,many of these had streaks of wins and always seemed to hold their form better.

Its diet day and I am hungrier than I usually am on a Thursday.
Could give up for this week, but I won't cos I have willpower! And I know that tomorrow I can eat and drink whatever I want. I think i would be depressed if I was 'dieting' every day. And what do you do if you are a bit low...have some chocolate. |

I was always under the impression that meat and fish were essential for a healthy diet to ensure we get enough protein.
I also believed that drinking cow's milk is essential to supply us with enough calcium to maintain strong bones and teeth. Neither is true. Yet nearly all diets are based on supplying the recommended amounts of both from animal and fish sources when there's no need to eat either. If fact both will do you more harm than good. We are told to limit saturated fat in our diets, animal products and fish products are loaded with saturated fat. So on the one hand they tell us the foods are essential for nutrition, then in the next breath they tell us they are harmful. Why don't they simply tell us the truth? |

Money would be my my answer they're making far too much from lifelong prescription drug customers and the fitness/bodybuilding industry is making money pushing all of their high protein and various supplement products also.
Given the way the online world works information gets resold and copied over and over so when you are researching this stuff you end up on sites that are basically selling something in a dressed up way. Whether it be a new diet to look like somebody who will be on drugs but pretending to only use a type of diet/supplements/training or an eating technique to make you thin when nearly all of those are just calorie cutters. That videos about Casein was the first time I'd heard that about milk protein and I've found it easy ditching all the dairy and meat but do eat white fish (low fat).It's incredibly easy to stick this way of eating the higher protein is unnecessary especially when you research protein synthesis,if you aren't on steroids you're wasting your time on a high protein diet. |

The types of people who get recognition in the fitness industry that you find on YouTube etc are usually classic oxymoron types who take endless amounts of drugs yet claim to be promoting health and millions understandably (especially young body conscious people) fall for it.

I often only eat once during the day. I've cut out most carbs including bread and pasta. I don't lose weight despite daily exercise.
Everyone is different. Govt generic advice is very unhelpful. Sadly in a media age of seeing so called perfect bodies, we're under pressure to look different to our natural shape. It's quite sad to think of folk who become obsessive about losing weight when really it's unnatural for them to even try. |
