salmon, people do intentionally select nr's,i'm glad you are not one of them, also people who are able
to replace nr's often choose not to. as to the no duplicates on last day rule, this rule discriminates against people like myself who wouldn't dream of stooping so low as to copy someone else.it is unfair to not be able to have a selection just because someone beat you to it.maybe if anyone is worried about their nap being copied on the last day they could send it to their settler by pm thus avoiding anyone seeing it before deadline. |
|
By:
OK geos I take your point about the last day rule. I'm honestly don't think many people would have your high principles though tbh.
As for not replacing n/rs I am sometimes in a position to replace them sometimes not. I never do because if I do look at GB form in the day at all I am looking for long-priced lays where I try to find at least 3 horses that can win. My winner-picking hat is on the evening before. |

I don't think we are discussing anything here other than the LRF ruling.
In my opinion no need to either. Salmon I owe you an apology as I just had to laugh at TNM response at 14.11 you must have thick skin mate ![]() |

Reg I have posted my last day Nap out is it ok with the rule book that I can change my mind as expecting it to go off around the 4/1 to 11/2 mark which most likely won't be enough. I was working the table out on my nap winning at 3/1 the price I got and not the shorter sp (even the great ones make the odd error)

sorry wrong thread , what did I say about the great ones?

Pete, you need to go for a bigger price mate.

OK - trying to balance the points made by TNM, petemac, china and me......
We lose LRF: no-one likes it. So how about you have say 50(?) post free days per year of which no more than 10 can be taken in any one month. Sundays count as a normal day (you either post or have to use it as a non-posting day) and last day of month remains compulsory with no duplicates. You can equate the free day total to say 20 days 'real' holiday per year (allowing for vacations and business trips when you can't or don't really want to post and this also allows some leeway for family issues, knackered computers etc) and 30 other free non-posting days over the other 8 to 10 months of the year. When your 50 days run out then you have to post or you lose a point. In practise you wouldn't want to use them at start of year 'cos you will probably most need them in mid/late summer and you might want to save a few for Xmas if you are going away or as a buffer for unpredictable issues that may arise. Seems quite sensible to me but I'm sure there is some fault in it somewhere that will soon be pointed out! ![]() I don't see any response to having to post your own nap under your own name.....does this sit uncomfortably with people on here? To reitterate my earlier point....I can't ask for a newspaper tipster as my nap if i'm away, yet you can get a forum 'buddy' to pick one for you...how can that be right? |

I like the Naps Comps been in 'em for a few years in all the divisions, etc.(having a stinker this month, btw!).
Anyway, I reckon there ought to be no LRF stuff at all. If you don't post, you're -1. Getting a mate to post for you is fine and, if you're on holiday and have no BF, get your mate to pick 'em for you for the week or however long! NR's the only exception. (And hope everyone's honest about these....) And keep last day rules the same. Good Night. Got to be up early for me paper round.![]() |
|
By:
What about those of us who have no mates ?
![]() |
|
By:
agreed salmon - i have no 'mates' whatsoever on here.......
![]() so petemac.....if i haven't posted by midnight the day before can you please put one up for me.......buddy? |
|
By:
i would ask Reged to do it as he seems such a nice chap (even if a dodgy tipster!) but he does so much on here already
.Seriously though - what's actually wrong or unworkable about my (other) suggestions? |
|
By:
So, if I know I'm going to be away, I can't ask for RPR Nap or R Goodfellow over a stated period of time (as we used to) but I can ask my bestest friend ever, (raspberrybottom - would you be my friend please?), to pick one for me? Just have to hope he doesn't fall out with me!
It all makes sense now............ ![]() |
|
By:
Let's have minus 1 for non posting. BUT, if settlers have time, allow sensible holiday periods. We could start from 1 March, allowing say 20 days holiday per year. As I said, this is subject to the record keeping not being too arduous for settlers.
|
|
By:
and if no-one will post for me I have to lose a point because i'm not in some little clique of ever-bantering posters?
|
|
By:
With regard to having to post under your own name, Horny38DD is very keen on the competitions and emails her selections to me. Unfortunately, she was banned by Betfair Police for inappropriate pictures and inappropriate remarks to certain forumites. Can we campaign for her to be reinstated please but failing the success of such an appeal, please let me continue to post for her.
|
|
By:
Madhatter - your idea of holidays is good but I feel 20 days at any time during the year is fair, maybe limited to 10 per month. There is no reason why somebody else should not post for you.
|
|
By:
Less than 50 is fine by me caress, it was just an opening suggestion.
20 seems reasonable but is 30 better and then count Sundays as a normal day? Still struggle with this posting for someone else being OK, but I can live with it if I get 30 days non-posting grace. |
|
By:
So:
I suggest - No LRF. 30 days non-posting allowance per year to be taken at the posters discretion. -1 per day for non-posters once you've reached your 30 grace days. Sundays no longer optional (grace day or -1 when you run out if you don't post). Last day rules to still apply. You can get a mate to post for you if you want. ![]() This also looks as though it would make a settlers life easier than it currently is? |
|
By:
Why are you trying to fix something that isnt broken? Its time someone spoke up in favour of the LRF system.
I think the LRF is a good system that is easy to operate and fair. There are many of us out there who have full time jobs and cant always post. Usually i get a few minutes at lunchtime but that is not always the case. I am also liable to be sent to places at virtually no notice and quite often there is no signal there, or if its abroad I cant access my account from a foreign IP address. I've used LRF 3 times this month out of necessity, not out of choice, or out of laziness, and have turned a loss on those three days, but at least I still have a chance. I dont have a problem with someone landing a 4/1 winner. They might just as well have several losers on the trot. The plain fact is that if you are on the favourite it is considered to be the most likely winner so its bound to come in quite often, but I would bet that over the course of a year you would make a loss. Then there are those who go on holiday. Should they be almost certainly relegated because they have gone to Spain for a couple of weeks. I know you are proposing an annual allowance but that will be very difficult to adminster. I see nothing wrong with the current syatem. Its evolved over several years, is simple to operate and everyone knows how it works. Its a good system, leave it alone. |
|
By:
I'm not the one that complained about the LRF - I'm just trying to find an alternative solution for those that are vehemently opposed to it!
I can't post from work so I always post the night before. I don't want to have to post while I'm on holiday or try to post when away on business (I get sent to Kenya for 2 weeks at a time) so, like you, I want some system that seems fair to me, be it LRF, a nominated RPR tipster to cover me or a betfair 'friend' or grace days. And to me the latter is the easiest and best way forward and will also stop all the moaning about the LRF. It's more a matter of how many grace days are considered sensible/acceptable. |
|
By:
id post for you madhatter if you ever needed me too
![]() |
|
By:
grace days wouldn't be 'difficult to administer' - the settlers already tot up 10 days per month, it is only a matter of swapping to 30 days per year.
The 'system' hasn't evolved over a number of years...the LRF thing is only about 2 years old. |
|
By:
So, can Shane, Reged & Co agree a new rule from 1 March?
|
|
By:
madhatter -
1. Posting the night before is generally a "bad idea"........as the GOING may well change overnight making the chances of your nap winning less. LRF takes into account what the market believes the horse with best chances on GOING to win.......thus someone who can't , for many good reasons, post the day of racing, is at least getting the benefit of the market taking account of GOING. 2. SUNDAY is a day of rest for the league controllers......and they deserve at least 1 day where there are less posts to deal with. So making it no longer optional is also a bad idea. 3. 30 days per annum being allowed to use LRF seems a fair solution to me.......and ,as controllers already keep a running record of use of LRF each month, should not increase the workload they already deal with. ( Some say 50 better....as takes account of public holidays etc.....and would not be unreasonable figure either). Say starting a fresh on 1st April. 4. STATUS QUO.......also ok .......really up to controllers to decide.....as they know all the snags with whatever is proposed.... GL "guys". |

Firstly, caress, No problem with your concern, keep posting for her and the same applies to others. As you may well all be aware I post for la mallatiere, or if it`s in the morning he emails Reg.
I`m not really too fussed about the whole debate as I find the lrf workable and easy to apply, though I do understand those who are in opposition to it. I thought my idea of capping the price of lrf was an easy solution, takes away the element of profiting whilst not posting. Why not say cap it at Evens, then it`ll only be used as a last resort. Napsters will still have the option of asking others to post for them whilst on holiday For me, the only other option is to do away with it altogether. If you can`t post for whatever reason then that`s unfortunate, that applies to everyone. Holidays, well that`s fairly easily remedied, just ask others to post for you, If you feel you don`t have anyone, just ask someone by pm and offer the same service back, or ask the settler, it shouldn`t be too much of a burden, I wouldn`t mind as I could only see me posting for one or two at any given moment. |

Can't believe my yearly suggestion is starting to become popular

By:
I think Shane is about right tbh. If the settlers are OK with capping the LRF price I think that is fair. I realise that some people may not have a particular mate to post for them but Shane's idea that we should help each other out is fine with me. I will post for anybody for a limited period if they are more concerned with avoiding relegation than winning anything

nor can I china - i can see lots of issues as players move divisions and argue the toss months later...

bb - that was the case when I started settling, napsters still believing they had instructions in place from months before when they competed in a different division.
