Oh My God.
Come on let us have a sensible option (not Biased) to vote for and bury this in the sand once and for all, one way or another.
You can't be as bad as this lot.

Is a yearly limit of say 20 rest days to cover all holidays a silly suggestion Crazy

I'm sure this has been discussed before and someone will point out the downsides, which I'm sure there are manyLaugh

What if you didn't lose a £ for not posting or for losing and only winning naps contributed to the score? There would be little point keep picking odds on shots and naps would perhaps be more adventurous. Perhaps apply this only to the Premiership and keep all other leagues as is?

With regards to the current situation. I feel if people advise, in advance, they are on holiday or unable to post an instruction should stand. If they just can't be arsed then they should lose a £.I think it at least shows courtesy to the settlers.

Actually why did it change to automatic LRF for non posters?

Too much confusion for Settlers Sir but good points raised.

We could start by just asking whether or not competitors approve of the LRF as it stands.
Unless a clear majority indicate not then it could be left alone.

Interesting idea for not losing regardless
Not sure i heard that one before

The LRF was introduced to make it easier for settlers who were subject to high folluting convoluted instructions

Good suggestion KC.

The only problem I have with LRF is, as I alluded to, people who just don't bother can gain. I think the crucial thing is that people should let the settler know they are not going to be around. If they get lucky and cop a good winner then so be it

The problem with Sir Rembrandt's suggestion about odds-on shots ( and believe it or not I agree there is a bit of a problem ) is that it penalises people who put theirs up early. If you put up a 2-1 shot and the 1-2 fav is withdrawn that doesn't seem fair to me.
I think you'd better go with KC's suggeation re LRF. The odds-on thing is not the same issue.
By:
petemac
When: 26 Feb 14 22:46
Yep, totally agree Salmon, despite what people may think and my many grumbles about long odds on shots it really doesn't bother me if people choose an odds good thing, at least they have took the time to look.
At the end of the day if someone is beating the book by picking shorties nothing but applause is deserved.
Though it does baffle me when relegation is out of the question why people do not go for promotion or the Championship?
It is this LRF that IMO is the only thing that lets this League System down.

I have said enough on the issue and would welcome views from HKF and other members plus Reg will be getting sick of me by now so I am sure at the end of the day our leaders will find a suitable way forward. Good Night all and best of luck to everyone for the next 2 days except HKFLaugh

By:

When: 26 Feb 14 23:01
It is quite sensible but it's asking too much of the settlers. Remember most people will be in different divisions over the course of a year.
By:

When: 26 Feb 14 23:04
When settling I felt that it was unfair that someone who didn't post was able to have a winner and move up the table at the expense of someone who had made the effort to post.

I would suggest that if someone is going away they are put on to the LRF as they are now (max 10 per month as currently) as long as they post in advance that they want the LRF and for what time period.  At least then they have made a positive selection rather than being too idle to post.

bettysboy not many replies as title of thread says last race bleedin favs and that could mean someone just having a moan etc in general so why would all competitors as such bother to read it... a vote would need to be put on each separate divisions for a couple of days then hopefully you would get a quite high turnout imo

I put Last Race Fav once, early on in the new system.

It won - Woo-hoo!

However because I'd put an illegal selection, I got -£1
Those that didn't bother to take part in the competition, got their winning points

China Castle        max of 10 free days per month including Sundays, no LRF                    OK by me - means that anyone that gets a good priced early winner still has to keep posting
allows for holidays, business trips, family crises, computer failure. Then at end of month it's your
decision as to whether to post but still compulsory with no duplicates on last day

Shane        cap LRF at 2/1                     No - you either use LRF as is or bin it

feast or famine        you can post while on holiday                    you are obviously not married or don't go on very adventurous hplidays!
do you seriously expect people to have to/want to pick a horse while they away?

DFC Ironman        laziness causes non posting                    I agree that LRF seriously encourages non-posting. Paying 1/3 odds….no way, just bin LRF.
pay out LRF at third odds                    And who really wants to try to pick one out on a Monday when there are maybe 2 meetings with all Class 5 or worse racing
Good reason to have 10 post free days per month as I see it!
Holidays should be covered by allowing a designated tipster from the RP Naps table only and must be identified to the settler
the day before you use them and once you have asked for it you cannot change your mind.

The Norfolf Mafia        no post -1                    drastic for people that work away or take holidays - post free days is a better way?

soldier of fortune        must post if you are serious about the competition                    it isn't a serious competition - if I am on holiday or away on business I don't expect to have to post
mates can post for them                    other people posting for you is one of the things that bugs me…if you can't sign in and post under your
own name then you shouldn't be taking part
I can't have RPR or R Goodfellow as my champion but I could get a mate to pick one for me…..how
                            does that stack up?

Steamship        free days                    I agree but how many, or you select a champion for Naps table as we used to

Shane again        Sundays not compulsory                    free days cover this, some people will always post a Sunday good thing so there will always be some settling to be done

salmon spray        we don't all have 'pocket access to (quick internet)                    Agree - but having a holday and still being expected to post is the key fault I see. A holiday is a holiday!

potlessagain        too many shorties                    you pays your money and takes your choice. Not my cup of tea but if people want to pick 30 odds on shots
and have a relatively high strike rate then it's up to us that are more adventurous to pick some better naps to out score them!

Reged        10 free days max, last day compulsory                    I vote for this one

poppydog        LRF means late nights for settlers                    yeah - silly rule; but the old system did mean they had to be very aware of instructions  so a bit of swings & roundabouts here

alleged22        selections in the night before                    suits me fine as I do this anyway but really really can't see it being popular

petemac        no LRF and 3 rest days + 10 days holiday                    pretty good! I would say 5 rest days per month. Also 20 days holiday/business leave (no more than 10 in a single month),
all with specific prior notification to the settler

sirRembrandt        only count days where you post                    can't get my head around why this seems 'wrong' but it seems a very strange way to run a naps table.
would say that all divisions should operate to same rules and therefore same strategies apply

So - in summary, my suggestion:

Ditch LRF
Have max of 10 free non-postings per month.
Everyone has to log in and post their own horse under their own user name.
Last day rules to continue as is.

Those that complain about 10 free days are missing the point….
You enter because you think you are better than your peers and wish to show this.
Therefore, if you can post and they can't then you surely have the advantage as
their monthly profit will stay the same and yours will surely go up when you selection bolts home?

I thought it better to retire from this comp rather than keep pi55ing people off moaning about rules and
the negativity of others but as its being discussed here are my 6 eggs

LRFs. a situation where someone can climb the table by not posting is completely wrong.
if you cant post you should lose a pt

NRs.a situation where someone can climb the table by selecting a NR is also completely wrong.
minus a pt
this should stop people deliberately trying to find NRs.

1HR rule.reducing it to half an hour would be a great help to some and no disadvantage to the others

NO DUPLICATES LAST DAY.you should be allowed to pick what horse you fancy on EVERYDAY of the month,i
can only assume this rule was first introduced to stop people copying the selectons of those below them to
prevent them from being leapfrogged.shameful behavior imo.theres nothing to prevent this happening on all
other days of the month so I see little point of it enforced on the last day only.

the main problem in this comp I think is that there are too many people who are better at bending rules and exploiting
loopholes than they are at picking winners.
