good idea shane.

Competition players what is your opinion on the fairest way to settle non posters on any given day?

It`s always been a balancing act, a difficult one if you will.

As betty said, opinions are welcome.

Don't like LRF , turns it into a lottery.

Have 10 free non-post days , not too bothered if Sunday is optional or compulsory.

Maybe make last few days compulsory.

Only trouble with no post n/r is if people use it when faced with relegation, I personally wouldn`t be happy with that. I suppose that`s countered with extending the compulsory period.

I don`t see how making Sunday compulsory will improve the comp, it at least gives us a sort of a day off.

We can always cap the lrf sp to say 2/1 maximum or settle as a dh if it`s a winner?

I actually quite like the LRF rule as it stands but agree with what BB said earlier that if it turns out to be a joint or co fav maybe we could settle it as a dh.

However I'm the newbie here so happy to go along with what the old sweats agree Grin

always thought 10 non-posts a month was too high - even if you are on holiday, with most places having wi-fi access and more people able to access the internet on their phone or tablet, a reduction of non-posts to 3 a month may be a way forward.

Various good reasons can arise for someone not posting........but also laziness exists or can't be bothered attitude to finding a selection.

Therefor.......1 point deduction for not making a selection is generally a reasonable thing to do IMO.....If someone is ill or had accident etc....then that is just "life", so a point deduction for non selection would be acceptable if it happened to me.

Holidays are where problem arises if can't use LRFTongue Out

Possibly make it is using LRF ....you only get one third of profit if wins.....and -1 if it doesn't....

For holidays you are allowed to select from the 5 days entries. This would enable you to make selections for the first few days of your holiday before you go away.

Do away with them and replace with 5 optional rest days per calendar Month but make final 3 days posting Compulsory.

I simply cannot see any sound reason were you should benefit from not posting. (NO NO NO always)

Gents for what its worth my opinion is completely do away with LRF. If people are serious about the competition they will find a way to post ...... by way of a mate posting for them, or on their phone, i-pad, tablet, laptop, PC etc etc.

I agree with Norfolk, no post = -1 point.

Classic example pete was when you posted for ardgirl and did a superb job! It was your skill that moved her up the table, not the lottery of LRF!

Also when I spent two weeks posting for stealth and he came back from his holiday claiming they were all his selections! LaughLaugh

Do away with LRF. Keep Sunday optional, allow 4 missed days, usually 1 per week so no bet no deduction but after that lose 1 point per missed day.

Unless you are going on holiday that month for 1 or 2  weeks so you are likely to know that before the month begins and you put a holiday request in. ie I go to Edinburgh in August usually for a week so i put my missed days in at the start of the month lets say 10th-17th so i have no profit or deductions because i have posted it before or on the first day of the new month.

Crikey it was easier getting holidays when I worked for someoneExcited

I'm struggling to see what the problem is.

Players have always been allowed to have instructions for days when they can't post for whatever reason. It's been that way since I joined the leagues several years ago. No-one ever complained about instructions.

The only things which have changed are that all players now have a standing instruction instead of just the handful who used to take up the option. That was a good change. Much fairer all round.

The other change is that all players now have the same LRF instruction to make life easier for the settlers. That was also a good change.

So why are people moaning now when they never did before? I don't get it.

What's the difference between someone posting the named favourite of the last race or having it posted for him as a standing instruction? None!

Leave things exactly as they are. It works well.

good points momm, 10 players expressed an opinion on here excluding settlers, so only around 10% of players seem to be interested in a change - so far. Not enough to make it probably.

momm, I think why it's more of an issue lately is that before if someone missed a day they just lost the point and no more said.
Now anyone that misses a day gets automatic LRF, so right or wrong there's more attention on it.

I don't agree with any changes that will complicate things for the settlers like a set missed day allowance every month.

For me it's either LRF or -1 for any no show (other than pre-advised holidays).
Personally I'd go for the -1 option as I'm always here Laugh

just to add that originally few players did the standing instruction thing, I know it became more popular and then prompted the LRF change.
By:

set missed day allowance doesnt add to the work as it would replace the current LRF system - both need to be counted

Just read through your thoughts lads and lasses.

Can we just concentrate on last race fav, I don`t want to cloud the issue with say Sunday`s becoming compulsory, as you`re aware I don`t like that idea for obvious reasons. Most Sunday`s I`m out all day and sometimes spend the evenings with family etc, it`s almost a day off as it only takes me 5 mins to enter and settle etc with the current ststus. I realise
every now and again Sunday falls on the final day of the month and is compulsory so I just take that on the chin so to speak.

I do agree with man of many moods/undecided as I`ve always said, no change for changes sake, it must be a very good idea and not alter things too much and more than a handful of people must be in favour. We have what I consider to be a fantastic comp, run and competed in the correct spirit.

Terribly difficult one.
10 days is hardly too short as many people go on holiday for 2 weeks and the assumption we all have or want internet access is incredibly ageist imo        Angry
On the other hand I do find it annoying that if people can't be bothered they MIGHT get one at incredibly long odds, say 4-1.   Shocked
When I started I thought you had to declare you would be unable to post to get credit but there were one or two people in what were then higher divisions who had standing instructions for LRF in case they couldn't post at work. I could never quite understand why they couldn't pick the night before tbh.

How about reducing the 10 days per calendar month to say 5 and cap the lrf price at say 2/1. Or just introduce one of the two proposals?

I think 10 is correct because for a lot of people 2 weeks is the normal holiday length.
It has to be said that the divide may actually be between people who can get others to post for them and those who can't or don't want to. I am wrestling with this as I intend to be away for over 3 weeks and as it happens the whole period falls in June. Do I retire or do I get Skinto/scissors to put one up for me          Confused

Many will be in a position to ask others to post for them, is that right and fair?

You don`t retire salmon, otherwise you have to start again in div 3. Just inform the current settler of any long absences etc, obviously that applies to everyone

In the long run LRF will probably get you slightly under Evens, perhaps someone keeps records and knows?
Perhaps split the difference between -1 and -0.1 or so and just give all non-posters (holidays aside) -0.45?
By:

When: 26 Feb 14 16:44
sorry -0.55.

I would have to Shane as the Premiership is so tight if I missed say 7 picks even my genius would probably not be enough to save me from relegation.
I am not totally happy with the present situation but on the whole I think momm is right. We have been through all this before and imo nobody has come up with a more equitable solution.

There is no solution where everyone would be happy.

ud - as you know you can`t make money backing all favs, so to make it less attractive my original suggestion of capping the price seems fair enough. If capped at say 2/1 people would only rely on it as a last resort, which is what I`d consider an ideal solution to this conundrum Grin
