Who is Pavey and what did she do? Don't answer I'm not really interested.

George bailey - here you go:

Murray:
- won the Davis Cup - Failed to win anything else he was equally prepared to, key member of team (didn't have to carry a baby or mother a child afterwards as part of prep)

Ennis-Hill
- Won World gold in a contest of 7 different events. Only one year earlier gave birth.

Sport riddled with drugs doesn't mean everyone involved is.

Muzza won 4 tour titles and rose to his highest end of year ranking ever, in a golden age of tennis

Muzza won 4 titles - none recognisable for this argument, that's like me saying Ennis-Hill won her warm-up races

If she had carried the sprog on her back in every event even I would vote for her...anyway I'm sick of her and that sausage dog

You started it, lol

Nothing matters other than 5 million women watching Muzza triumph for GB . Less than 2m watched Jess beat a very weak field

Plus he did it recently and viewers have short memories...that's why GB drives round in a rolls royce...laying the new fav after each new event pre November. Keep meaning to do it each year but forget.

Aside from sporting achievement I think Murrays major advantage over the others is that he is simply the most famous and well known British Sportsman since Beckham...

None of the other contenders even come close to Murrays public profile

im a big Rugby Union fan but i dont follow league at all and I had never even heard of Kevin Sinfield until recently..

The viewing figures is an interesting point, but that doesn't necessarily mean the ratio of votes would be the same. I'm not saying she will win, nor am I knocking Murray's achievement but he was more likely to be successful in the Davis Cup than Ennis-Hill was to win Gold at the World Championships. 2012 Was more impressive for Muzza, Olympic Gold and Wimbledon, with all the pressure of the nation. This year is no comparison for him, as opposed to Ennis Hill who, yet again won Gold but with the odds against her.
By:

Murray 1.5
Ennis 1.58
Sinfield 6
Fury 5.7
Hamilton 3

Lowest price matched. Why bother with anything else?

More likely to be successful in Davis Cup? What price were we at the start?

She wasn't the favourite, I know that much. hard to know now, although I know that Great Britain were 6/4 favs going into the Semis....

to put things into perspective, it was only last November when it was reported that she couldn't lift a 20 kilo bar above her head as her body had still to recover from the rigours of childbirth.

The Russians involved in the latest scandal operated on such a large scale that they can only have been acting in what they thought was the national interest. At least it was not as bad as the worst excesses of the Soviet era. The low point came in 1968. The Soviet Union had to deal with an uprising in Czechoslovakia, which would lead to a military invasion of Prague in August. The Olympic Games in Mexico City took place in October and the last thing Moscow wanted was for the mighty Soviet team to be beaten by the Czechs in any contest.

The best female gymnast at the time was a Czech, Vera Caslavska. To counter Caslavska and her team-mates, the Soviets took extreme measures. “In any other country it would have been called rape,” one of the Soviet coaches said a quarter of a century later, after one of the gymnasts had told a German television interviewer what happened.

Doctors had discovered that pregnant women could gain an advantage in muscle power, suppleness and lung capacity, because they produced more red blood cells. So all the gymnasts, two of whom were 15 at the time, were forced to become pregnant before the Olympics: if they did not have a husband or boyfriend, they were made to have sex with a male coach. Anyone who refused was thrown off the team.

After 10 weeks of pregnancy every gymnast had an abortion. They won the team gold medal by a fraction of a point, with Czechoslovakia second.

Forget any polls as they are done by sports fans. Millions of viewers will be non sports fans and will vote on how good looking the sports star is and how cute their kids are etc etc. Lets face it how the feck did a royal win it a few years ago when no one gives a feck about horse dancing?
My winner is Jess as she will get the anti Murray & Fury vote and is a well deserved winner especially after only giving birth a year before.
A couple more notes is that athletics normally does very well at SPOTY (see below) and Murray will be in Singapore on Sunday.

2/1 on Jess looks massive value and I would not be surprised if she was Fav come Sunday evening.

Good luck all.Wink

If jess ennis could not win in 2012 the year she won the London Olympic gold then id say its surely less likely she would win this time

Jess is always there or thereabouts in SPOTY but unlike her exploits on the track never manages to come first

Murray wont be in Singapore either...he will be in Belfast picking up the awardWink

George B..The only thing that worries me about Jess is that she might get the women and sympathy vote for being a new mum and all that.

In 2012 can you lot remember just how much publicity Ennis got that summer

she was always in the papers and on the telly.. before , during and even after the Olympic games

so if she could not win when her public profile was at its very highest and her sporting achievement was far greater than this year..then that really suggests less chance this time

it will be interesting to see if Jess meets Fury after his sexist comments about her

I think Furys interview will be comedy gold...Imagine Claire Balding has to interview him !!!!..

Fury will come out with a line like... " hello, your a big lass....I heard you have a wife !! "Laugh

Actual numbers from 2012 were....

Wiggins.  492k

Ennis.  372k

Murray.  230k

Ennis on the back of her Olymoic gold,Murray being the first UK male to win a Grand Slam tournament in 76 years.

This year we have Ennis winning World Championship Gold,Burnham with the added vote booster of returning from having a child, and Murrsy virtually single-handedly winning the DC for the first time for GB.Only other viable alternatives seem to be a Sinfield campaign vote,or a Fury popularity + anti-establishment / anti-PC vote.

I think it's reasonable to make a case for any of the 4 winning.
