F1 Hamilton 5/4 to win diver champ
6/1 sporty if Liverpool won the title Stevie g win sporty ? I backed Lizzie but she like drift wood ! |
|
By:
Fattie ~ if you can get on with StanJames, you could play it safe and cover your Lizzie Arnold bet with Kelly Gallagher at 8/1

Hamilton won the F1 title back in 2008 & couldn't win SPOTY that year:
Chris Hoy 283,630 (39.48%) – WINNER Lewis Hamilton 163,864 (22.81%) – 2ND Rebecca Adlington 145,924 (20.31%) – 3RD Ben Ainslie 35,472 (4.94%) Joe Calzaghe 34,077 (4.74%) Andy Murray 19,415 (2.70%) Nicole Cooke 18,256 (2.54%) Christine Ohuruogu 7,677 (1.07%) Bradley Wiggins 5,633 (0.78%) Rebecca Romero 4,526 (0.63%) Total votes: 718,474 |

I would give Lewis a decent chance if he wins the title, career achievement and time served help in this popularity contest, Giggs got it after all.

i cant see gerrard getting nommed for liverpool, but if he did well with england thats different
a huge player if he is nommed though is lewis hamilton popular these days ? london marathon soon, farah time ? |

If Farah can't win after his Olympics victories I struggle to see him being in the picture
The marathon is April 13th |
|
By:
He's doing it in a chicken suit this year

Hamilton defo a serious contender I think - petrolheads a solid vote, element of career achievement as highlighted above.
Coming 2nd in an Olympic year arguably a very strong showing. I think Farah collapsed after a half marathon last week so not exactly ideal prep. He'd get my vote if he won in a chicken suit though. |

Steven Gerrard looking like a worthy favourite with the 3-2 victory today over City

Stevie G hosed up!
|
|
By:
if he's nominated he'll win it
|

seems very short for having scored a few penalties !
|
|
By:
Giggs won SPOTY by mostly sitting on the bench all season, donny. Gerrard's contribution far greater.
|
|
By:
yep, but wasnt it his 8th championship medal or the like ?
hes a tough one to beat in a vote, but beeb may have designs on a different winner they know how it works too ! |
|
By:
it's down to the sporting journalists whether they vote for him to appear in the final line-up .....could all depend on how green they are on him

...a BBC expert panel chooses the final shortlist these days gresty and has done since 2012. The invited sports editors were used until 2011.

So Gerrard now odds on, 1.85 / 1.98. Best High Street price 8/11. Hamilton 5/1, Froome 12/1, 16/1 bar.
Only a week ago someone was very keen laying Gerrard at 4, kept putting lumps of several hundred up at a time, £6,681 matched at that price. I backed just £20 of it ![]() |

cheers for correcting me Jim

...no probs gresty ~ the BBC changed the shortlist nomination process after SPOTY 2011 [when super-smashing-great King Cav won
] as there were 3 golfers, 2 cricketers but 0 women in the 'democratically' made 2011 final 10 shortlist from the sports editors independent selections. Since then the BBC choose the expert panel on an annually rotating basis. |

horse: if you knew that Liverpool would beat City, City would draw with Sunderland, Chelsea would lose to Sunderland and Liverpool would beat Norwich at Carrow Road, then you should be ashamed of yourself

cavendish going for commonwealth games road race for isle of man
and reckons he is back to form of two years ago a popular bloke is cav ...... |
|
By:
If England do well at the World cup (which I doubt) then Gerrard will probably win this, but I doubt he will win it off the back of the season just gone, espically with the way it ended with him slipping (
) and costing Pool the title. In truth its a pretty sh1te year, but I think if Rory can win another major then he should be favourite, and would rather take |
|
By:
the price on him rather than Hamilton provided he wins the championship.

Hope everyone is keeping well.
I've been struggling for inspiration with regards SPOTY this year. However over the last few days my thoughts have crystallised and I now think I've got the answer..... Providing England don't get to the semi-finals of the World Cup then I think the winner will come from the Commonwealth Games.BBC will be absolutely loving it - building it up like the Olympics. But who is the likely winner? The answer is I simply don't know. It could be somebody you've barely heard of i.e. somebody winning 3 golds against weak opposition or maybe a "rags to riches" story that catches the public inspiration?? But I must stress....do not underestimate the Commonwealth Games. Hamilton and Froome - horrendous personalities. |
|
By:
Hamilton is coming across quite well this year. Having been SPOTY runner-up twice, I wouldn't discount his chances.
