I might be open to correction but didn't the tory party pass law last year allowing the American chicken despite election promise? Aussie trade deal re beef in pipeline. This stuff is against EU standards and hence the reasons for checks. |

EU border checks are not because of specific recent agreements by non EU members such as:
"This stuff is against EU standards and hence the reasons for checks." Part of the case against UK membership of the EU was that 'The EU is a protectionist trade bloc' (and the implication was that the UK would be better served to not be part of the bloc. this is TRUE. it is a trade bloc, with its own rules to protect its members. the debate (as much as there was a debate) is whether the interests of the UK would be best served as a member or not. There's no debate as to whether or not the EU is a protected trade bloc, it was before the UK left and of course it remains one now. Therefore, the idea that the UK can leave the EU and the EU would cease to be a protected trade bloc once the UK has left is absurd. This is literally what the English Nationalists voted for. Non membership of the bloc. Disappointing it may be, that the bloc hasn't broken up, but it hasn't. That Tory MPs can ask Frost how he's getting on with side deals with EU members is kind of horrifying, but also provides insight into the mindset of many posters here, who (I have no reason to believe are pretending) when they post through the prism of EU making choices in its enforcement of its own laws (to the detriment of the UK). it's not deliberate - it's part of the reason you wanted to leave. Really weird how people don't understand the basics of stuff they get really passionate about. |
|
By:
everyone knows the EU is a trading bloc with its own rules
It’s the responsibility of the EU and it’s member coutries to abide and enforce those rules It not the responsibility of the U.K. Really weird how remainers don’t understand the basics |

lol you agreed a treaty and still don't understand what you actually signed up for
sums Brexit up in a nutshell |

Keep posting dummies! We need to get back control of our borders! |

Unless you were totally tribal about this maybe the EU is actually doing the average British person a big favour?
Messing about with food is the pits, the less well off will end up eating it, the go ahead was given through the Commons in anticipation of a US deal despite the promise on their election manifesto. Would this be just food? The easy way out is to agree on similar standards as the EU,why won't the goverment do that? I get the keeping options open but without being too cynical it(UK) hardly is going to be better standards. |

20 odd million brits knew what they were
voting for, so clearly wanted this border in Irish sea, and bizzare trading conditions the tories signed up to. |

Duke of Cumberland was best remembered for his role in putting down the Jacobite Rising at the Battle of Culloden in 1746, which made him immensely popular throughout parts of Britain. He is often referred to by the nickname given to him by his Tory opponents: 'Butcher' Cumberland.
