unique opportunity

indeed. betting after the result in the hundreds of millions. incredible.

ties in with politicspunters point about bias in political betting. combine that with average IQ of trump's supporters...a unique opportunity.

Not defending Betfair - but worth noting that the State betting markets are settled based on the winner of the "popular vote", not the "projected" EC vote winner. So this vote is less relevant.

True Womble, but hard to know what more could happen to confirm Biden won each state’s popular vote?

So how will the settle the popular vote then ?

I have no idea how they decide popular vote at this point, if they're not going to do it by the actual popular vote, which was decided and even confirmed by all the states ages ago. I mean, they settled states like North Carolina as soon as they were projected for Trump.  Betfair have messed up.  I still think it's highly likely that they'll settle all of the Presidential Election markets after all the Electoral College votes are completed.  I guess it was wishful thinking to expect them to suspend states as they go though (would have been nice as an indication to anyone living in the real world that they do intend to settle everything soon though!)

This is maybe the best live tracker as it has links to the live streams for each state (if you really want to watch a load of random people signing some forms!)

They'll surely await conformation from the VAR gurus at Stockley Park before settling.

Next president market has now traded £1.688 billion, up £525 million since November 30.
£1.142 billion has been traded on Biden at 1.20 or less, 68% of all money traded, up £487 million since November 30.

Saw this BetfairCS reply, doesn’t inspire confidence:

Hi there. Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. The markets will remain open for trading until we can settle on certainty. There are electoral events that are still to take place within the coming month before there is certainty on the matter

Seems strange that they'd so publicly post that they're waiting for 14th December if they still don't intend to settle now - they've given themselves an end date and a rationale behind it (whether we agree with it or not).  Their statement doesn't even say "at least".

However, the info they've apparently been giving out to random Trump backers who are asking (see Twitter for evidence!) does suggest that them settling based on the (already known) outcome of todays votes is far from certain.
By:
womble
When: 14 Dec 20 17:06
I guess it's possible that someone high up has decided that:

a) they're still raking in the money (and commission) on this market

b) they're going to spend the next month+ dealing with angry people who feel cheated regardless of what they do

So they may as well double down and just wait for 6th / 20th Jan.  However, whilst the Trump backers don't have an actual case, those with money tied up on Biden most certainly do, and you'd think the Gambling Commission might HAVE to do something if they continue to pretend that this outcome isn't already plenty decided (on the basis of their own market rules). But who knows!

We are in the same boat, mate. I just wanna make sure that if today Biden wins the EC vote, they will not settle the market. In the end Trump will win, I am 100% sure. This was my only concern. I bet already 4500 £ at SpreadX and Betfred so that's why I ask this. Thanks.
