I spoke to Betfair and they are pretty adamant that there will be NO settlement today.
Their one liner is....'it won't be today, we will need to wait for everything to have a final result' I suppose in future they'll wait for the drug test results before they pay out on the 2.30 at Kempton. It makes as much sense as all this malarky. |

2B+ market and investors have no idea when or if they receive their funds, it's not the Gambling Commission should be knocking up Betfair Towers, it's Inspector Knacker.

This is pretty good and quite prescient too

It makes as much sense as all this malarky. two points (1) I think those kind of things are never allowed for (2) even if it was, it wouldn't be a big issue to reverse 0.5m of bets I am with you, I am waiting to be paid, but I get their argument, especially in terms of popular vote. in terms of projected votes, that is over today, no matter what they say, i.e. the projected votes do not exist anymore. |

It's ironic that we're all sitting here watching the highlights of a game we've already seen.
And talking about it as if it's happening live. |

It's so dumb. If Trump was to somehow remain President and they settled on Trump, there would be a class action against Betfair that would surely be successful, and possibly bankrupt the company. Regardless this mess, of almost entirely their own making, could end up in a national newspaper and cause significant harm to their reputation.

The Twitter experts are expecting Trump's price to touch 100 tonight. They can't wait to "invest" more
on him. Lovely jubbly Rodders. |

Pretty crazy that when Trump was diagnosed with Covid the markets were suspended to "protect customers" yet here we are still betting after the outcome has been known for weeks.

Four states left to deliver. California 55 votes. It kinda looks like Biden won again.

Truly incredible that a 1.7 billion pound market is now more about when or if Betfair will settle it correctly than the event itself.

Friend of mine just made the very valid point that they can't really tell anyone when they're actually going to settle, as if they said to all their employees and customer service agents that, for example, they're going to suspend and then settle the markets as soon as the Hawaii votes are in (the final ones, just after midnight GMT), then that would be a huge temptation for some of them to pass that info to their mates so they could clean up knowing that they can't possibly lose.
So even if they do plan to settle in the near future (which I still strongly suspect they do), then they have to keep at least the exact timing a secret. That said, they should probably tell their customer service guys to stop tweeting out stuff like this: https://twitter.com/BetfairCS/status/1338537074035728387 This really is a totally weird situation! |

If California now votes for Trump, he wins. This must be why folks are piling money on him surely?

We all know we are working in a cynical industry, but it makes me feel a bit queasy that BF are prepared to use
this as a way to recruit thousands of mug punters. No one ever knew that betting after the result is known could be so popular. |

Well yes, we know they couldn't lose anyway, but presumably many wouldn't want their life savings tied up until January 6th or 20th! If I told you that I'd give you a 3%+ return on your money, 100% guaranteed, in 48 hours, you'd probably be keen, right?
I just hope they settle before everyone finds out about Hugo Chavez rigging all those voting machines for Biden anyway. ;-) |

California in about 30 minutes (10pm GMT) settles it. If they're going to suspend the market immediately it'll either be then, or when Hawaii votes at midnight GMT, though that is only 3 votes so doesn't change anything.

You're right, it's quite absurd that they haven't given their CS staff an explicit position to take that they will all just repeat verbatim. Incredible to let them all just go off script.

Heightened security was put in place in some states, including Michigan and Georgia. In Michigan legislative offices in the state capital Lansing were closed on Monday due to "credible" threats of violence ahead of the vote.
The vote at the capitol building went ahead peacefully, with all 16 electors casting their votes for Joe Biden, who won the important swing state. A group of Republicans tried to enter the building to hold their own vote but were turned away. "The people have spoken. It was a safe, fair and secure election," said Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat who had been the subject of a kidnapping plot thwarted by the FBI earlier this year. "After today, the results will be final." |

10 minutes until Biden wins the electoral college so naturally Trump continues to shorten in a market about the winner of the electoral college.
