If on June 7th, Conservatives announce that Theresa May has ceased her role as leader of the Conservatives, what does Betfair do then?

Good question, ask Betfair.

if tories announce she is no longer leader, then she is no longer leader.

IMHO she ceases to be leader of the Conservative party on June 8.there is obviously a need for her to continue as pm in a caretaker role till a new one is elected, but as far as the party’s concerned it doesn’t matter if they have no leader for a few weeks,so she finishes from the 8th then they have no leader till mid July.

why would she cease to be leader on the 8th ?

Cos that’s the first day after her resignation.

Betfair paid out on next Tory Leader on 11th July 2016 18:39.  They paid out on next PM on 13th July 2016 17:48.

I guess that would have set the precedent. If there was a mkt for Cameron going.

Well then, that is the precedent, is it not?

That's next tory leader, not exit date.

Cameron didn't give a resigning date.  He just said he was resigning and that a new leader/PM would be in place before the party conference.

So whilst Cameron resigned on 24th June, Betfair didn't pay out until a new leader was appointed.  It's that precedence they're sticking by.  People being confused by May just giving notice of the day she'll be resigning.

Cameron had to resign the party leadership to trigger the leadership contest, Dave.

You're right, so I guess there wasn't a market.

Theresa triggered the current one on Friday

The 2016 Conservative Party leadership election occurred as a result of Prime Minister David Cameron's resignation as party leader. He had resigned following the national referendum to leave the European Union. - Wiki

UB are you congenitally unable to research anything?

https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/politics/westminster/956364/david-cameron-resigns-speech-full/

I will do everything I can as Prime Minister to steady the ship over the coming weeks and months but I do not think it would be right for me to try to be the captain that steers our country to its next destination.

This is not a decision I’ve taken lightly but I do believe it’s in the national interest to have a period of stability and then the new leadership required.

There is no need for a precise timetable today but in my view we should aim to have a new prime minister in place by the start of the Conservative Party conference in October

On the other hand, if there wasn't a Cameron exit mkt, it wouldn't be a precedent. Can't recall.

Cameron didn't resign on that very day, he said that he will do in the future

Just like how Theresa didn't resign on Friday, but she will do on 7th

Yes. That's why I simply googled When did Cameron resign the leadership of the Conservative Party?

Yes, it's when she steps down from her role and ceases to be leader of the conservatives. Which is well documented to be 7th June.

Correct.

What's true is there's ambiguity and in that case: 'In the event of any ambiguity over an official announcement, Betfair may determine, using its reasonable discretion, how to settle the market based on all the information available to it at the relevant time. Betfair reserves the right to wait for further official announcements before the market is settled.'  Betfair have said they'll settle when she's replaced but they're reserving the right to settle on further information.  So the Apr-Jun backers must wait until their's something official showing May is not leader of the Tories.

Effectively, she resigned on Friday, giving 7th June as her exit date.

Awkward

The 2016 Conservative Party leadership election occurred as a result of Prime Minister David Cameron's resignation as party leader. He had resigned following the national referendum to leave the European Union.

i also see there is a market to make last two in tory leadership contest

but some talk is of having 1922 committee change it to 4 in the run off
to stop the,  stop the ,  conspiracies

one to watch

It irrelevant what people think, it's what Betfair thinks that matters.

Yes, and they will settle once May ceases to be leader.
