Banging your head against a brick wall talking to CS

Apparently she will still be leader if she dies, until she's replaced!
By:
Fatslogger, just sent you a private message linking to my screenshots. Surely that is cut and dry?
By:
So we can have a dead leader of the conservatives
![]() |
By:
Strange things happen in politics so I hope that you get one of those outcomes fatslogger, maybe not May actually dying.Interim leader might be in with a chance is she decides she doesnt fancy meeting Trump.
By:
She’d be meeting trump in capacity as PM, not Tory leader though
By:
looks like we need Boris getting a free run then.
By:
Looking at the rules, it's not even up for debate in my opinion.
By:
Are you behind this movement lifter or is the market finally seeing sense?

If I don't get paid as a June backer...
To raise your dispute with IBAS, you will need to request a Deadlock Email from our Escalation Management Team. This email will outline the full details of your complaint, and will include a unique reference number that must be quoted when submitting a dispute with IBAS. You can then submit your dispute to IBAS here You may also use the European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution platform (available here) as an alternative to IBAS. However, we feel it’s far to point out that complaints filed on this platform are then directed to the relevant national arbiter, who in turn will be asked to direct your dispute to IBAS, inevitably prolonging the process. No doubt BFCS will tell me we have brexited and I am doubly fooked ![]() |

I have no real experience of this situation with Betfair and jucel's tales are cautionary but I strongly suspect they'll need to review this and change their minds, although it's hard to see how they can row back to the obvious interpretation of the rules when they've been telling people the opposite, so the most likely outcome is that they stick with stupidity and the next most likely probably that they void, as imagine how stinking you'd be if you'd been told what they told me and then they settled on her resignation?
By:
I also feel that CS made a mistake trying to answer our queries. They should have put out a generic mail “this is being reviewed and a statement will be announced shortly” suspended the market and worked out what the answer was.

A customer enters a pet shop.
Mr. Praline: 'Ello, I wish to register a complaint. (The owner does not respond.) Mr. Praline: 'Ello, Miss? Owner: What do you mean "miss"? Mr. Praline: (pause)I'm sorry, I have a cold. I wish to make a complaint! Owner: We're closin' for lunch. Mr. Praline: Never mind that, my lad. I wish to complain about this parrot what I purchased not half an hour ago from this very boutique. Owner: Oh yes, the, uh, the Norwegian Blue...What's,uh...What's wrong with it? Mr. Praline: I'll tell you what's wrong with it, my lad. 'E's dead, that's what's wrong with it! Owner: No, no, 'e's uh,...he's resting. Mr. Praline: Look, matey, I know a dead parrot when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now. Owner: No no he's not dead, he's, he's restin'! Remarkable bird, the Norwegian Blue, idn'it, ay? Beautiful plumage! Mr. Praline: The plumage don't enter into it. It's stone dead. Owner: Nononono, no, no! 'E's resting! Mr. Praline: All right then, if he's restin', I'll wake him up! (shouting at the cage) 'Ello, Mister Polly Parrot! I've got a lovely fresh cuttle fish for you if you show... (owner hits the cage) Owner: There, he moved! Mr. Praline: No, he didn't, that was you hitting the cage! Owner: I never!! Mr. Praline: Yes, you did! Owner: I never, never did anything... Mr. Praline: (yelling and hitting the cage repeatedly) 'ELLO POLLY!!!!! Testing! Testing! Testing! Testing! This is your nine o'clock alarm call! (Takes parrot out of the cage and thumps its head on the counter. Throws it up in the air and watches it plummet to the floor.) Mr. Praline: Now that's what I call a dead parrot. Owner: No, no.....No, 'e's stunned! Mr. Praline: STUNNED?!? Owner: Yeah! You stunned him, just as he was wakin' up! Norwegian Blues stun easily, major. Mr. Praline: Um...now look...now look, mate, I've definitely 'ad enough of this. That parrot is definitely deceased, and when I purchased it not 'alf an hour ago, you assured me that its total lack of movement was due to it bein' tired and shagged out following a prolonged squawk. Owner: Well, he's...he's, ah...probably pining for the fjords. Mr. Praline: PININ' for the FJORDS?!?!?!? What kind of talk is that?, look, why did he fall flat on his back the moment I got 'im home? Owner: The Norwegian Blue prefers keepin' on it's back! Remarkable bird, id'nit, squire? Lovely plumage! Mr. Praline: Look, I took the liberty of examining that parrot when I got it home, and I discovered the only reason that it had been sitting on its perch in the first place was that it had been NAILED there. (pause) Owner: Well, o'course it was nailed there! If I hadn't nailed that bird down, it would have nuzzled up to those bars, bent 'em apart with its beak, and VOOM! Feeweeweewee! Mr. Praline: "VOOM"?!? Mate, this bird wouldn't "voom" if you put four million volts through it! 'E's bleedin' demised! Owner: No no! 'E's pining! Mr. Praline: 'E's not pinin'! 'E's passed on! This parrot is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-PARROT!! (pause) Owner: Well, I'd better replace it, then. (he takes a quick peek behind the counter) Sorry squire, I've had a look 'round the back of the shop, and uh, we're right out of parrots. Mr. Praline: I see. I see, I get the picture. Owner: (pause) I got a slug. (pause) Mr. Praline: Pray, does it talk? Owner: Nnnnot really. Mr. Praline: WELL IT'S HARDLY A BLOODY REPLACEMENT, IS IT?!!???!!? Owner: N-no, I guess not. (gets ashamed, looks at his feet) Mr. Praline: Well. (pause) Owner: (quietly) D'you.... d'you want to come back to my place? Mr. Praline: (looks around) Yeah, all right, sure. Betfair should void this market so no one gets their fingers burnt by rules which are unclear & traders apparently being told different things by CS but the loss of over £2M matched commission makes me think they'll not be in any rush to do this.
I've now been told twice by CS today May remains leader until another leader is sworn in & as she has agreed to remain in office until a replacement is found looking at the current prices I'm not the only one to have been told this by CS. The market should be suspended & a written statement should be issued by Betfair ASAP so we can all can trade in good faith & with confidence on this market. |
By:
Crikey LuckyAz - wtf is she resigning from on June 7th then ? Leader of the ERG Fan Club ? I'm as confused as you but probably not as much as CS who seem to be answering as if you're talking about the next PM market.
By:
Been made quite clear to me that it's when May is no longer leader and a replacement is named. That's going to be July at the earliest.
By:
Going round in Brexit circles here - how apt
![]() |
By:
I have clarified with CS on both occasions I was talking about the 'UK - Party Leaders - Exit Dates - Theresa May' market & have had to take their word May is considered to be leader until a replacement is sworn in as this is not written in their rules, I'm starting to think 'no deal is better than a bad deal' every time I look at my red.

Who goes first May or Cable
By:
Hello there. We aren't settling any Theresa May markets until she officially ceases as leader of the conservative party. While she'll step down to make way for a leadership contest on the 7th June, she won't officially leave until a new leader of the conservative party is chosen.
By:
By:
CS made it clear to me that May resigns not when a replacement is named is what settles the market though. If they’ve been telling people conflicting information they should void the market. Forgetting the missed commission though the problem they have is that they’ve already partially settled this market on previous months
By:
I can see this ending in tears ...
By:
By:
It will. If I was green on Jul-Sep I would be equally angry if they paid out on Apr-Jun. It’s been awfully handled by Betfair.
By:
CS specifically said they had confirmed with traders though
By:
Nothing worse than having an open bet in limbo, I empathise with you on that.
Going to be quite a while before you get any real clarity either ![]() |
By:
I've been in a similar scenario a few times with BF and it's draining!
By:
Doesn't help that they have a gazillion markets open on similar events
By:
If a Conservative prime minister resigns as leader of the party, this triggers a contest for a new leader. They could choose to stay as Prime Minister until a new leader is elected, or resign in favour of another Conservative MP who would temporarily be Prime Minister until the leadership contest is over. This would be an unusual situation.
If they resign as Prime Minister or are defeated in a general election, they can remain leader until a new leadership contest. The UK has de facto caretaker governments during general elections but not during leadership challenges. So the Government and the civil service functions without change. The Prime Minister in place during a leadership contest would still have all the powers of the Prime Minister. |
By:
Now you are going to see people manipulating the market, trying to get people to panic!
By:
Yes but tomb raider, the market is about Tory party leader, not PM. On June 7th she will still be PM but not Tory party leader therefore market pays out for Apr-Jun
By:
Disagree, she can still be party leader.
By:
How can she be Party leader if she has resigned as party leader?
By:
She resigned as PM to trigger a leadership contest.
