Yeah I think Arvika was the best horse over that trip tbh. I do think Arvika has one way of going and may find very little off the bridle IMO.

WHAT A WEEEKEND

Navan first

Un Atout should win hopefully, the big hope for the year. This fella may win a Chanmpion Hurdle such is his engine. Lets hope he comes back safe unlike Tempo Du Champ and has been properly schooled. Second race is also interesting to see how Moscow Mannon goes.

They run 3 in the Novice Hurdle in Rule The World, Shrapnel and Bonisland. Davy goes for Rule the World and he is right, he will win tomorrow and my euro's will be in big time.

On a side note Elliott running Bonisland again? wtf is he doing and the owners. Said he was a shell of a 4yr old. Brain dead stuff, hope they don't ruin him.

Roi Du Mee and Start Me Up run in the big handicap chase and Jane Mangan may get another big win here if left alone up front.

Ipsos Du Berlais runs in the Beginners Chase and this is his game, 3 mile is needed and he may be a horse even for the four miler at Chelteham.

Cork

Rogue Angel and Road To Riches runs and Road To Riches should have a straightforward task, only worry obviously is Carberry.

Punchestown

Myself, My Dad and My Grandad, 3 generation will be attendance on Sunday. Can't wait for this. What NH is all about, sipping some whiskey and eating xmas pies and looking at top class racing at a great track.

I be backing Ballinslow and I say Willie has been eyeing this race for this chap for some time if he has yet to run this season.

Bog Warrior and Sir Des Champs, what are they doing with Bog Warrior after him only running him last weekend they are running him in a race that he can't realistically win. I don't understand it , I just do not understand it. Personally its clear that they are trying to win the Owners Championship with there campaigning of certain horses. Sir Des Champs will win, I can't explain it, I just have 100% faith in this horse.

ENJOY

Think you are engaging in premature thoughts re Un Atout. While he could be very useful the evidence is not there yet. The bumper he won at Naas in January did not produce a single winner since. I would be a layer today with two live dangers in Some Article and Fickle Fortune.

Easy win for Un Atout.....this lad needs a strong pace to run at and settle in behind them. Making his own running won't suit when it comes to the bigger races. At least all the class is still there.

Quito De La Roque beaten well...I think the Grand Nationals should be his target now. Very disappointing

Big drift pre race, any gold cup hopes surely now gone, don't think he would get around in the national.

Not chance of any gold cup....I think that year of Novices are very poor in hindsight!

When: 09 Dec 12 22:15
Yeah Ballnaslow was awful today....Looked like he had lead boots on all fours. Barely able to move.

Carberry did as I feared and nearly made a complete and utter mess of Road To Riches...luckly he won but silly stuff.

Hard to make out Sir Des Champs run, I personally thought he would have to beat Flemenstar but maybe I completely underestimated him and the fact he got a easy lead and jumped for fun didn't help Sir Des Champs. He will need to reverse form however at xmas. No excuses now.

What did Carberry do wrong on Road To Riches?

SDC'c Gold Cup is in March and not before then.
By:

I thought SDC was going to be beat a country mile in running when Davy started to niggle but thought he plugged on well enough considering his first run and the quality of the winner, different ground and trip who knows what's going to happen but Flemenstar wasn't showing any signs of stopping.
By:
rubyisgodinthesaddle
When: 09 Dec 12 22:24
Too confident Allduck just far far to confident....win your race and let him go in and pop. Not wait and then take the chance that he make a mistake by looking for a jump to seal it.

I also did not understand the fact he had the horse about 20l of the lead. When Davy Russell rode him prominent if not leading and even Nina in his bumper rode him fairly close to the pace. Now fair enough if you want him to settle over 3 miles but around Cork on a pretty sharp track despite being a long straight.

rubyisgodinthesaddle
When: 09 Dec 12 22:29
Yh Sir Des Champs never looked to be travelling as well as you would have liked. He did find a gear against Hidden Cyclone last year in tacky ground.

Maybe he needs better ground and needs a few runs into before he see him at his best. All very fair remarks to make. Guess I should have copped the confidence screaming from the rooftops.

Flemenstar is a hell of a horse though!

The horse to focus on in the John Durkan is Rubi Light,he is a genuine 161 rated horse running over his favoured distance and he was beaten out of sight by two champions,he couldn't live with them. The tighter inside track didn't suit Sir Des Champs and I think there's plenty to come from this fellow.
By:
Allduckornodinner
When: 09 Dec 12 22:36
Russell rode him in a two horse race over a much shorter trip. He'd have won the race if he'd held him up that day too. This was his first real test over hurdles and he would have learned a lot from the contest, not least how be clever over hurdles when he's properly racing. He was also keen enough and understandably the rider got him to back off the bit by dropping him out. Horses don't meet every obstacle right and mistakes are inevitable at times. Tarla came down today and didn't even really make a mistake.

SDC was a long way from being peaked today, he even looked it milling around the start. My view is that he's the horse Mullins has been waiting for and he has never truly gone to the well with him. I think after Christmas he will really start dipping the tank at home and come March you'll be seeing a champion.
By:
rubyisgodinthesaddle
When: 09 Dec 12 22:42
Yh I take all your points on board....but I know who I would like to have on today.

Yh I never realised the inside track was in use.....a very tight track up the straight there. Didn't do my homework on that one. He looked lethargic....seemed to require Davy to push him into his obstacles. I SKY+ it and I re watched some of the coverage when I came home and Gary said Paddy Mullins said he would win. Another like input to mix into the equation.

people still very much under estimating Flemenstar,This is a serious Horse,if he was trained by Mullins he'd be championed by everybody,

if and when they clash again my money will be very much on Flemenstar,He won as he liked today and will only get better over further imo.

This horse has won at all sort of trips and is not getting the credit he deserves,He's a bit of a freak if ye ask me.

I thought at the time Carberry gave Road To Riches a very well judged ride.I have looked again at it.He was keen early and he dropped him in to get settled. For some reason through mid race he was on and off the bridle but the jockey never panicked and just nudged away when necessary to get him into it up the straight. The leaders probably went too quick and Carberry's judgement of pace was excellent.I think if he had followed the leaders closely he would have had a far harder race.

GANT,I suspect that the best horse won the race.

This Gigginstown operation gives me the impression that it is a badly run outfit. For all the money they are pumping into the game, they don't have many really good horses and they have an abysmal record in Grade one contests. Is someone codding them up to the eyeballs or are they just overenthusiastic amateurs?

Ruby,
Have you mentioned BORN IN FIRE yet on this thread ??? (no time to read all just this minute but will do later) - as I just saw his Dromahane conqueror Blackwater King run 2nd to 25/1 shot in Sedgefield.

McCain's Blackwater King won again on Sunday btw

Very nice horse won for Martin and the team during the week and that would be one of the costly french recruits.

Had to laugh at that comment...you swear they have been at the game decades. Its the NH hunts game it takes a long time to develop these horses.

Oh yeah Don Cossack run in the Grade 1 this weekend and should run a very good race but I wait and see how good he is before putting any money on him. Hopefully Un Beau Martin and Rule the world will keep progressing.

Cheers for the heads up, I see he is with Mousie. Best hands possible.

Another bad day at the office.

This outfit are making too many elementary errors. Their trainers are pushing young horses too hard too soon. For a 4 year old,  Un Beau Matin was given an unnecessary hard race. Similarly Don Cossack, who has been talked up as a Gold Cup horse, was pitched in at the deep end having previously won a maiden hurdle.

In anticipation of getting more horses from Gigginstown  trainers may be too eager to please and try to rush slow maturing types.

It has been suggested, that  some owners pay their trainers reduced training fees and in return the trainer gets a bigger percentage of the prize money. If that is the case, it is a sure recipe for disaster.

Yeah Don Cossack is interesting. I didn't think he was particulary impressive on debut. That was a poor poor effort yesterday and with that fall to boot you wonder what they are thinking now regards the rest of the season. He need a good 6 weeks after that. Un Beau Martin would have sluiced up if he didn't fall and again as you say Gotchee a 4yr old does not need those type of falls. Isn't it interesting that Elliott also has gone too hard too early with Bonisland.

Now it all could have been so very different, that ground was atricious yesterday and Elliott keeps saying that Bonisland needs decent and runs him in a bog 2 weeks ago and Don Cossack with that engine was never going to be suited by a tacky affair. I think the winner is top top top class horse tbh. I guess the reported 300k+ was well spent.

However just to temper the bad feeling, I also believe that the likes of Don Cossack etc are all chasers in the making so everything they do over hurdles is a bonus. With the lack of strength in depth in Ireland it makes to pitch horse in after maiden wins to see how good they are. Now if I owned them I would get at least 3 runs over Hurdles before going to Grade 1 rather than this touchy softly cotton wool style of training we have now.

These are all incredibly young talented animals in there own right and must be treated with respect. Keep them to races they can win and they gradually move them up the ranks.

Sir Des Champs, Don Cossack and Un Beau Martin all very good horse in the last 7 days that have been turned over. Times like these you expect it and just move forward.

I been looking over the entries for Xmas and I am struggling to see where the Big Grade 1 wins are going to come from tbh.

The team will be heavily represented in every race but big wins will be hard come by. Horses like Arvika and Hurricane Fly and the big chase's like the Lexus are hard to weigh up.

A lot of the really heavily touted horse like Ange Blanc, On Your Eoin, High Handel have yet to appear this season. One wonders if they will at all??
