The daggers were out for that amateur in Fakenham. This was worse.

You could tell something had gone after the last, horse running on adrenelin.

It didn't look at all good. Let's have people talking about it rather than pretending that it didn't happen. It looked like his first priority was winning the race rather than any damage done to the horse.

If that would have happened at any other stage of the race he would have pulled it up, shouldnt make any difference it was after the last. Not doing racing any favours there.

He hit the horse 12 times on the neck before the last fence. All about a pound note. The whole sport in one moment.

Commentator said Paul had done the right thing by jumping off after the line. Err surely the right thing would have been jumping off after its back end collapsed. Usual itv ‘nothing to see here’ bull****. It’s the same when Chamberlain says the screens are purely for privacy. They’re used to hide the horse being destroyed from the public, should that become necessary. Racing nowadays is all about PR spin.

I’m behind you all and have only just seen, made me feel sick.

Ed the Tooth Sid well done to him for jumping off right after the line. Yeah after running 200 yards after your back legs had gone back and pointed toes together like diver Tom Daily Sad

Thats all we need at this meeting as well. hopefully the horse is not too badly injured as this will turn into a major PR disaster for racing if its not.

Racing TV just talking to Nicholls and Cobden. Pathetic from Hislop. None of Luck, Barber and Howard addressed the issue. Any negatives, pretend they don't happen.

That's the pertinent point, the rank hypocrisy. RTV were all joining in to give the amateur a kicking. Easy target.

Gold Dancer should have been pulled up. The same thing happened to Killutagh Vic when Walsh was on onboard at Leopardstown. Killutagh Vic slid on his belly, but Walsh decided to ride on and win the race. As a result Killutagh Vic spent the next 18 months on the sideline; Killutagh Vic suffered a pelvic injury. The horse was never the same after.

Gold Dancer has died.

It was far easier for Townend to do the right thing. Not a bloke riding his first winner on a horse that wasn't even injured.

Pathetic from Lydia Hislop, deliberately missing out the horse was clearly injured after a shocking mistake at the last. Move on hey and lets pretend Townend did the right thing

It does not show racing in a good light but will surely receive plenty of publicity on the national TV news and it will all be negative

willie/townend are untouchable

usual platitudes

"these things happen" etc

reality is the horses are just tools - racing industry tries to pretend otherwise ("we love our horses" etc) so can't really moan when the game comes under criticism.

In the 10 seconds or so from the last he may not have realised how bad he was injured i'd hope. Very sad end to a right good horse and the damage was done at the last and it would have been the screens in any case.

Townend had to feel that the horse had gone wrong and he should have pulled him up straight away.  It was obvious to me sitting on my couch.  The problem with doing the right thing is that all those 1.01 backers woould have been up in arms if he pulled the horse up with 100 yards to the finish line while six lengths clear.

Damned either way I think. Pulling him up and then found not lame would be a nightmare only just below the one we have. Jumping off not really an option as if the horse turns out ok the stewards would ban him forever a la Byrnes ! Will Townend ride in the 4.05. .? If he does and wins they won't interview him.

I thought it looked lame a few strides before the line but up to then it looked okay (No expert though)
