Cider,
I can see how well you construct an argument to make your case when facts don't. You've always been my number one conspiracy theorist on here. Nobody comes close to you, congratulations. |

Thanks, means a lot
![]() It might come as a shock, but you are entitled to disagree with me. I think he should have pulled up. You don't. I think the coverage on rtv was very hypocritical, and if it had been a jobbing English jockey they would have gone in on him. I think the authorities have taken the easy option of doing nothing. Seemingly you don't. That's obviously up to you. Doesn't make you right. |

Interestingly, you can see Harry Cobden tell Townend to dismount after the line, he clearly hadn't felt anything!
|
|
By:
so ev horse that makes a bad mistake needs to pull the horse up?

Interestingly, you can see Harry Cobden tell Townend to dismount after the line, he clearly hadn't felt anything! its stride was fine till 50yds past the line..watch the replay. |
|
By:
It's the nature of the mistake, 1.01 he was injured in some way, nobody knew at that point how, or how bad or whether continuing could have made it worse.
Would he likely have pulled it up after the third and not the last? I think he did something similar on El Fab in the QM when he was a short priced fav, when he made a similarly bad mistake. |
|
By:
Well remembered.
After the El Fab pull up in the Champion chase, Townend commented : "...considering the manner in which gelding stumbled he felt it prudent to pull up." I guess circumstances today influenced his decision not to do so. |
|
By:
it didnt look injured from halfway up the run in..hindsight is wonderful.
|

Kauto Star as a novice at Exeter did something similar, Walsh rode him right to the line behind Mistral De La Couur.
|

By:
after it had fallen*

Townend must have thought his sun lounger had collapsed
![]() just scroll up and look at the angle. |

El Fabiolo mistake where pulled up looks pretty much identical.
|
|
By:
Kauto Stars fall at Exeter was nothing like Gold Dancers fall. Kauto Star crumpled on landing, he didn't drag his legs through the fence. Sustained a minor leg fracture though and Ruby Walsh cajoling him to make up lengths wasn't a good look and I assume one of the reasons remounting is now barred. Gold Dancers mistake looked horrible and a brave horse to continue. I'm sure Townsend now wishes he had pulled up but I think the damage was done, regardless.
|
|
By:
dancer didnt fall.
|
|
By:
When I said similar, I was referring to the look of it, I worded it poorly saying "did" ,today's mistake looked bad, Walsh remounting looked bad.
|
|
By:
I agree it looked awful, he crumpled like a sack of potatoes and was lucky the ground was very soft.
|
|
By:
After reviewing the footage, The Director of Equine, Safety, and Welfare explained that Gold Dancer's action
was typical of a three-mile chaser in the final stages of a race is this for real? the commentator saw there were issues with the horse's movement. |
|
By:
thats means hoiles is correct does it?

the horse made a bad mistake..hundreds do..he got it going and the lasy 1/2f it galloped on well..the 2nd was staying on and didnt close at all...thats not a horse running with a broken back ffs.

Regent's Stroll......Prominent, led 2nd, not fluent and headed briefly 5th, pressed from next, went clear with winner 15th, disputed lead 4 out, headed just before 2 out, ridden and outpaced by winner approaching last, kept on but was unable to make any ground on horse with a broken back
|

By:
It’s a 2 mile 4f horse!
Listen on ITV , Townend won’t want to let a 2m 4f horse get away from him! ![]() |
|
By:
It’s never been 3 miles and meant to make up ground!
![]() Because there’s horse has a broken back! ![]() |
|
By:
I deffo don't stay 26 miles but if I'm up against Gebrasalaiise and he's broke his back, I'm beating him.

People think a spine cord just snaps?
Think the bumming or bumping ad you like to say helped the horse? |
|

Before Binocular won that champion he went for back work, think they stretched him like that?

By:
a poor action In what way? Once he had regained his equilibrium his stride pattern was exactly the same as the 2nd horse in picture who made no ground on the winner. Should the 2nd have been pulled up too? Thats what I noticed as well loper, although the damage was already done. ![]() |
|
By:
If anyone thinks that horse is galloping properly up the run-in they don't know horses...it is obvious from side on he's gone wrong.
Whether Townend fully realised it is another matter. After the mistake it must have done the injury at the last and you're crazy if you think he did it after the finishing line |
|
By:
I was trying to find the ITV commentary earlier, and apparently some claims that it had been removed online, but I have now found it and Richard Holies called it on the run-in from his vantage point that the horse wasn't moving great.

ISLEHAM, I havent seen anyone say the injury occured after the race.

Before the race Whendigo was trotted up before the vets, Kicked before start
Luke Harvey wasn’t sure it looked right but he also said that it’s difficult to tell the action of horses that aren’t your own. It seems like a subjective topic to me but when a commentator says in real time that has horse has gone wrong with the jockey on top thrashing and bumming away it really doesn’t look good. Win at all costs isn’t my motto so as for the argument put forward by multiple about whether I’d of wanted the horse to be pulled up if I’d of backed it? Yes. I’d of taken it as I had a faller, if a horse jumps bad at the first or last fence and gets pulled up it’s no difference to me, wellbeing should be paramount. Anyone who thinks the horse was done for straight after is ignoring that the jockey was bouncing up and down on his damaged back to motivate an injured horse. How about I jump up down on your back like a space hopper after you’ve damaged it? Think mode damage might occur? Logic is lacking here. ![]() |

A definite "vested interest and viewpoint as the previous poster emphasised.
Several people had expressed the opinion the horse did it passing the winning post...for one the infamous Rico said so if I remember correctly |

I laid the second in running so I've no vested view in 'panning' Townend
