Horse passed the post and it’s back snapped….aye right….
12 month ban… |

Townend slapped and hit the animal to the last fence - cos the horse had had enough. The sport's chiefs, perennially evasive, will try to draw a veil over this. Aintree's always a bit of a horrible meeting so it's par for the course.
ABOLISH THE NATIONAL, IT'S A STOOPID F*CKING RACE |

have a look at that tweet Ace , dreadful to look at , I'm sorry he must have know summat was amiss

They've always had a point, but the wider point is that it is a complex discussion not a Knee-jerk summary point.
Horse racing balances many issues, both positive and negative. Stu, if racing isn't prepared to discuss these things openly, then the anti's will discuss it FOR racing. |

From what Nanny shared, it’s not funny for the sport this.
BAN HORSE RACING @Animalww26 RIP Gold Dancer. This horse broke his back on the last jump, jockey and animal abuser Paul Townend then forced and whipped the horse over the finish with a BROKEN BACK to finish 1st. The horse was killed. Should have been the jockey. #Aintree #horseracing #RIP #Golddancer |
|
By:
a barely known known jockey would get thrown under the bus for this - but they can't cos its mullins/townsend
|
|
By:
it wasnt apparent it was lame..the 2nd was pulling clear of the 3rd so wasnt stopping and didnt gain on gold dancer up the run in..tragic whats happened but how you gona pace blame on the jockey?
new rule pull up if make a mistake..walofs |
|
By:
The Twitter video, horrible watch
Backend went all over the place after the mistake at the last |
|
By:
remember the mullins/walsh horse a few years ago,hit the last...properly done the splits and stopped..got going and won...should ruby have pulled it up?
|
|
By:
You could have thrown a blanket over the top five in the betting for the Mildmay Novices' Chase (2.20) this morning with all of them hovering around 4-1/9-2.
But some separation has emerged since with Willie Mullins' Gold Dancer very strong at 11-4, with Brown Advisory third Salver next in at 4-1. |

if the jockey couldn't tell it was injured he shouldn't be racing. absolutely shocking

One little mistake. |
|

Yeah the jockey didn’t know
that was one brave horse ![]() |

What did Hoiles say?
I've been watching racing for over 30 years...the horses' action (back legs) clearly went after the mistake at the last...I think the jockey's adrenaline kept the horse going, rather than the horse's. Not a good look for racing. Everyone goes on about Townend...he's riding the best horses which most competent jockeys would win on, and I have never seen him win on a horse that he shouldn't have. Massively overrated and not in the same breath as AP, despite what Cheltenham records might show. |

Pretty sure he thought there was another circuit to go in the Topham.

Must have something wrong up there when you ride a horse like that ! wtf was he thinking ?

after the stewards enquiry, Paul Townend said the horse felt ok running straight to the line, only when slowing to a canter and trot did he not feel right and dismounted. the Vet agreed and explanation noted.
|
|
By:
sense at last.
|
|
By:
"The vet agreed and explanation noted"
I hope the vet is not suggesting the horse broke its back after the winning line. If so, the vet will need to explain to the lesser informed and not a horseman. |

impossible to know. |
|
By:
It really isn't.
|
|
By:
If there is an upside (slim pickings) it's that the horse was effectively dead, whether he had shoved it to the line or not.
|
|
By:
After reviewing the footage, The Director of Equine, Safety, and Welfare explained that Gold Dancer's action
was typical of a three-mile chaser in the final stages of a race What!? What on earth does this mean? Hopefully a typing error? |

put a sock in it cider ydc.

Broke it’s back turning left to canter back zzzzzzz turn it up ffs
|
|

Apparently the horse's action changed after rounding the left bend after the line. The jockey dismounted. The horse collapsed soon after. Then it got back up, and collapsed again. At this instance a decision to euthanise the horse was taken.

Of course, it is widely known that people in authority never lie...especially when a horse has died the day before the world's most famous horse race.

Billy got a huge ban for riding the horse back from the start after the vet apparently asked him not to.
Horse literally breaks its back after a terrible, splaying mistake, hard ridden to the line with a poor action, unstable and collapses upon pull up, and the vets are happy with that ![]() |

Billy got a huge ban for riding the horse back from the start after the vet apparently asked him not to. Agreed
|
|
By:
a poor action
In what way? Once he had regained his equilibrium his stride pattern was exactly the same as the 2nd horse in picture who made no ground on the winner. Should the 2nd have been pulled up too? |
