400 hurdles has Benjamin as the favourite but Warholm has faster time this year and is 3/4 over him in major finals

I've been laying her at these prices.  Personally I think she's not nearly as nailed on as the market thinks.  Almost the same price as Kipyegon was which is nuts to me. 

Naser and Paulinho have better PBs, Whether they are in that kind of form, here I don't know.  But this track is probably quicker than where they did their PBs.  Paulinho and Naser are also far clear of the rest of the field, so they don't have to run anywhere near flat out, and both have a history of saving a lot for the final.  Paulinho doesn't look like she's in the same kind of form (the vibe is off) but she has an ugly action and I don't rule it out.  She also has lane 9 which is where I'd have put her to give her the best chance in this race.  She could run off very quick in the outside lane and never get caught.  Pretty sure Van Niekerk was in the outside lane when he broke the WR.  Naser has the profile of someone who is hitting peak form.  She had a near 3 year gap from the sport after she was banned for missing drug tests after 2019.  She was injured just prior the 2023 worlds and had fairly average form prior to the Olympics, but as in the 2017 and 2019 WCs she had peaked to perfection and ran much quicker than she had throughout the season.  Coming into this year's WC, she's had a much better post championship season.  Because of the times she's been running she probably doesn't have the same sort of improvement coming into these WCs, but if she does, that's borderline WR form.  I think there's a strong chance she'll PB in the final and break the 48 second mark. 

The other factor is runners that PB in 400m heats or semis nearly always run slower next time out, and she'll probably have to PB again to win the final.  There were 9 runners in the 400m of the mens and womens event here that PB'd to qualify for the semis and they all ran slower in the semi final.  The reason is twofold.  One being the race took something out of them physically and the second is that they ran their perfect race.  Of course a lot of them feel they have to run flat out to qualify and that is clearly not the case with Sydney.  She looked great and she always does.  She has a beautiful action and she looked relaxed and capable of improvement.  The vibe is on.  But she didn't ease up until 1 metre from the line, where it makes virtually no difference to the time.  She looks like she'll run faster again in the final, but she'll probably have to.  That's no long odds on shot in my book

Naser and Paulinho were both faster to 200m than McLaughlin in the semis yesterday.  Paulinho was also faster than Naser to 200m in the Olymic final.  I think she goes off quick.  If Naser is a spent force in the final it won't be trying to keep up with Mclaughlin, it will just be going off too quick.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Australian prodigy in the mens 200m.  Bolt seriously underwhelmed in his first global championships iirc.  I think we'll be seeing a lot more of Gout Gout in years to come
