I see it a different way dd and all. With the huge technological advances in track surfaces and racing equipment available to present day athletes. I feel that those of fifty years ago, given those same advantages, would excel. I have no doubt about that.

Amy Hunt was just about last at 100m. You have to wonder whether she could be a top class 400m runner (racial stereotyping)
She probably would be a good 200/400 like michael johnson and van niedkirk. She should have good couple of years ahead of her - no major champs until beijing 2027 plus sidney and mjw aren't going to be competing much outside the usa if at all.

Wish I had seen rico's match-up at the time. Had to make do with 8/13. Will at least cover some stake money.
I see the 4/11 favourite in the walk came 28th.
I don't remember saying anything negative about old runners on the thread.

Not sure how attractive 4/6 is, but I would expect Chebet to beat Kipyegon again. The six-year age gap is on her side. I don't think they need to worry too much about the rest of the field. The Italian could well medal again.

dd,re the match up..i know finals are a diff ball game but inge has looked poor..i dep £1000 and tried to have it on Kemili @5/6..allowed £360..then allowed £220 @8/11..they really are pathetic.

dd The Japanese was leading (was still relatively close amongst the top 6/7 at that point, with about maybe 3 km to go when he got his 3rd red card. Hurtado was 6th and in contention when he got his third red card too at exactly the same point. The 2nd and 3rd and 5th were on 2 red cards and could have got effectively dq'd at any point.

It seems the favourite might have won that walk but for picking up a time violation. Just an extra incentive not to bet in walking races.
As I suspected KJT under pressure to pick up any medal.

Think KJT should get bronze but it's going to be close. KT is 8 secs better on PBs 6 seconds in it. But the American prolly in better shape and might be more motivated than she's ever been before.

I think they are finally waking up in the studio to what an ordinary GB team this is. Just two surprise medals. That isn't going to be repaired over the next two days. That's why you need an 'outsider' like Johnson for a bit of honesty and not constantly bigging up disappointment.
We have a history in the men's 4 x 400, but the current team won't get near a medal. The women's team were useless.
The USA were never 1/20 to beat Botswana.
Those relay changeovers are fraught with danger. It's seems too easy for those in front to just impede those behind. Tebogo appeared to just stroll across the track instead of just stepping off the inside. That's deliberate.

Anna Hall was actually below par here. Down on her two completed heptathlons this year. Her SB was also 250 points above anyone else in 2023 too. Probably injury issues last year

5000 Metres, a rare predictable race, just a repeat of the Olympics.
all the races from 1500 up have been really slow - but chebet and faith are pure class and can win off any pace. 5000 tomorrow will be another funny one.

Wanyonyi ran as expected, but so many times he has almost fallen over the line, so for me never a bet at short odds. Sedjati, much better run with the pressure of expectation off.
KJT scrambles the third medal. Not a given that they will get any more. Everyone counting Hodgkinson as a start of the week banker, now who knows?

Cram suggesting that Kipyegon should track Chebet, but at 5000 Chebet has shown that she has the better kick, so not sure how that works. If anything the Italian should have kicked on, but she probably knew she was only running for third.

kipyegon is making chebet an attractive price - i don't think beatrice can be beaten
800m looks tough but wayonyi is class i take him to win

A lot of chaos at every 4x 400 metres banton hand over, everyone gets in each others way, Finishing runners block new runners.
This could easily be solved.
Instead of lining up from the rail, lane 1,outwards in order of the runners.
Reverse this, make the leader line up on the outside, and the last runner be nearest the rail, inside.
Then as they arrive at the handover, they would have peeled of from the wide outside,so no one gets in anyone’s way.
The extra distance the leader would have to run is tiny, they would drift over coming up the straight.
If anyone remembers Jaqueline blissett winning the guineas,it drifted from rail to rail, but the post measured the extra yardage,it was ,tiny, guessing but about 1.75 yards .
It’s chaotic at the 400 handover, slowing runners blocking new ones getting away, spoils the event and fairness,

Possibly no market because of confusion whether US were being reinstated or not. Carnage at changeovers all part of the spectacle, and makes it more tactical. Poor Kathy Cook, robbed of an enduring legacy as one of GB's greatest female athletes by cheats.
Anyone remember this race 1993 WC 5K?.....
Rank Athlete Nation Time 1st place, gold medalist(s) Qu Yunxia China 8:28.71 2nd place, silver medalist(s) Zhang Linli China 8:29.25 3rd place, bronze medalist(s) Zhang Lirong China 8:31.95 4. Sonia O'Sullivan Ireland8:33.38 5. Alison Wyeth GB 8:38.42 6. Yelena Romanova Russia 8:39.69 7. Paula Radcliffe GB 8:40.40 8. Lyudmila Borisova Russia 8:40.78 9. Yvonne Murray GB 8:43.46
Should've been a gold for Ireland and Silver and Bronze for GB
Sonia robbed of gold in the 1500m too ....
1. Liu Dong (CHN) 4:00.50 2. Sonia O'Sullivan (IRL) 4:03.48

GB are going to be disappointed, but I have opposed Hodgkinson throughout. She clearly hasn't been right, but nobody has said anything, and she only has that one big win on her CV. That one race has given me a profit on the week. I took the 100/30 'The Field', the 4/1 no GB medals, and a small bet on Odira at 10/1. Few more chances to come, but can rest easy now.

Very good effort from Kimeli. Being checked didn't help his cause, and would have finished closer but for that. Stretching it to suggest the winner won on the bridle.

US didn't mess up, so the solid Canada never at the races.
Poor again from GB in the women's race. It should have been a medal and sums up a poor week with too many disappointments. Shocking interview with the high jumper who didn't seem at all bothered. PLeased with losing. With that attitude never likely to win anything, and the studio defended her. Why?
Just going back to the 5000. It sums up how defensive betting is on other sports. This was a 16 runner 3/1 the field race and like everything it was just win only. An eight runner condition horse race and you get 1/5 first three no matter what the price of the favourite. Terms are stacked. Similar with tennis 128 runner field and you get two places.

The GB medal haul was +/-8.5 I did think that was a marginal lay, but only just, and not sufficient for me to go unders. That they only got 5 was a really poor effort.

i watched the uk championships last month - it was sobering to see how few athletes there were capable of getting near the WC championship qualifying standard. the strength in depth is not there.

One last thought Kebinatshipi made the difference to Botswana taking that relay gold. The combination of sensible and ability is going to make him very hard to beat.

Was a fair down after Garland bottled the decathlon. I saw he was priced at 1.07 with one bookie and the bottle looked like it was potentially coming, but nowt I could do about it. Messed up all 4 technical events on the final day. Ended ahead which feels much sweeter, than if I had won the same amount always ahead

I didn't back her. It's a Fantasy Game like Fantasy Football. You have a budget and you choose 12 nations within that budget. 1st place gets you 15 points all the way down to 8th place that gets you 1 point. I had Ecuador amongst my teams. She wasn't on my radar as even getting a point, let alone 15 points. I ended up winning by 3 points so that late result made all the difference.

as a nation we excel at sitting down or standing still sports, so sailing, shooting, rowing and anything with a horse, which is where many of the medals come from during an olympics, ask them to run and we're way down the drug abuse list which is why kenya and botswana thrash us
