At least one of the shorties won. Kientzheim 8/11-2/1 so clearly all was not thought to be right today - fitness? She has an engine, and if they can sort the jumping out, she could be pretty good. She looks to have more natural speed than That's Nice. Hopefully, she doesn't need to go right-handed. She did win a bumper left-handed.

Nothing lost with Walks In June, but it's disappointing when you are on an 11/2 shot that goes off 5/2, and from what I could see never looks like winning. I think Gleeson is prone to over confidence, and stuck out wide, it wasn't a plus that he lost a decent early position. The horse is a stayer.
The two I mentioned in the Down Royal bumper finished 1-2, clear of the remainder. Aine O'Connor produced a well judged front running ride to win the Limerick bumper. |

And the connection is? Woods rode a winner for Dan Skelton. I am sure he will have been delighted to have firmed up another connection.

BP 1st grade 1 winner since willoughby court, of course this horse should have been in march

Kientzheim was quite green today , to me she kept wanting to duck in behind , which didnt do her any favours 3 out . I would quite fancy her at 20s in March , wish it had been left handed .

dd,
On The Big Westerner, I was impressed too, slight concern that it didn't look to be doing a tap in front late on and a bit clumsy at times, looks to have bundles of improvement to come though and my gut feeling was that the 12's is probably a little bigger than I thought it would be for the AB post race. |

Nobody in the shops could spell it! I did look this morning but the form didn't amount to much so I left the race alone. RPR have only given her 106 so not a mares novice candidate yet. There were quite a few favourites today around the country. Constitution Hill, Potters Charm, The Jukebox Man, East India Express all smashed up late, Fortunate Man, Dalston Lad, Kalium, Galactic Charm, Gentleman Toboot, another promising debut for Brocade racing. 3 favs at Market Rasen and Wetherby. All in all not a bookmakers day. Only Wincanton had no favourites win but Ioupy Collanges was only 5/2. The only ray of light in a dire day for Paul Nicholls.

Enjoyed the two big races at Kempton, probably because I had no bet in either. Constitution Hill should improve again with the run. Hard to know what to make of Lossiemouth. Perhaps she's just become lazy. But it's unfair on the Hill to look for reasons for the second's loss. I rarely disagree with Ruby but his notion that the course would suit Lossiemouth as she's 'all speed' was at odds to Barry Geraghty on RTE who said the track would suit Con Hill better than the second. To me Lossiemouth also jumped the first few like a horse who had been schooling over fences. Great ride by Townend on Banbridge, particularly at the last. Disappointing runs by a few in the race particularly the McManus pair.

Ps, backing Croke Park early this morning I couldn't believe the sp. Just shows how lucky you can get as if I had've been on track there's no way I'd have backed it when I saw the drift.

How many people want to back endless favourites? They never all win. Most who do will no doubt end up losing.
As for Kientzheim it's not just about today. She was impressive in her bumpers as well. That's about as much as any candidate will have done. That's why they are novice hurdlers. As for Racing Post ratings I wouldn't give them a second thought. One last thought on today what did Cobden and De Boinville think they were doing in the last race? It seems jocks are making up their own rules these days. It doesn't look right when they give up so easily. A few each-way's for tomorrow. As I write Bet365 are out on a limb on several. In the Limerick opener I like Barnahash Primrose. O'Connor an interesting jockey bumper, and her bumper form, including a course win, should give her every chance. At Kempton, Della Casa Lunga should be competitive in an ordinary mares' handicap. I am hoping that the booking of McLernon, and first time blinkers, might see Beachcomber in a better light in the handicap chase. He hasn't kicked on after a promising chasing debut. Saved the bets for the last three at Leopardstown. Enniskerry ran a solid race behind Washington. If the ground doesn't deteriorate too much, I would expect something similar. I wasn't expecting to put up Hartur D'Or so soon after the Ascot debacle, but the huge price was too tempting. Hopefully, he still has some running left, but the key again will be getting him jumping. The concluding bumper might be a strong one. Eclipse Chaser, Leaky Cauldron (who I asked about earlier), and God Help Me have all had their point form franked. I weighed in with the last named at a double figure price. The jock on Leaky Cauldron put me off. He has ridden winners in Sweden, but surely they could have got someone better? In the other races Last Kingdom won his bumper nicely, but the O'Brien horse has a high flat rating. Some people have snapped up the 100's on No Flies On Him. Question is has he gone for good, or are they messing around with intent? The Grade 1 novice hurdle looks another weak race, and gives further encouragement to those on this side of the water. The two I looked at in the Welsh National were Atlanta Brave and Evies Vladimir, but I haven't backed either of them. |

I'm not sure why it's unfair to Constitution Hill to analyse the performance of Lossiemouth. It's no different to any other race. You could easily switch it and say is it fair to say that one horse is conclusively better than the other, based on just one race? I have no money involved, but I would like to see the rematch.
By:
Absolutely. And I totally agree with Bsrry G's reading of the race. Just think some seem to be suggesting the only reason the winner won was because the second underperformed. We don't know that until they meet st Cheltenham which should suit Lossiemouth better. If they rematch that us. The thing that I was disappointed with regarding her run was that it took from the second last to the last for her to get by a weakening Burdett Road, a horse she should be laughing at.

By:
I didn't say I wanted to back favourites, just pointing out thata lot of the "good things" won today
By:
What I was disappointed with CH was that with the way Lossie raced and yes with the fact it took an age to get pasty BR, when Nico let CH down after the last he did not put any ground between himself and the mare with the distinct impression at the line to me anyway that she might just have been starting to claw him back.

How far did you want him to win by?

The two horses I mentioned for the Welsh National have been smashed up. Both around 20/1-8/1.
Of the one's backed Barnahash Prinrose has halved in price, but the others are like warm at best. Market is all over the Mullins bumper horse. When he came down in his point I thoought the winner was travelling marginally better. I would have favoured Leaky Cauldron had he got a better jock on board. Reading between the lines it sounds as if they have had him quite a time, but it hasn't been plain sailing. Bit surprised Sir Gino isn't even shorter to beat Ballyburn. |
By:
Backed both Sam Thomas horses in the GN. As for Leopardstown aside from the bumper I'll be going against the Patrick Mullins ridden horses. They may all win and good luck to him if they do but he runs them through too many obstacles for my liking to be confident when he's on one.
By:
Can't believe people are making something of Townend riding Ballyburn. The horse should be unbeaten, and he still has great potential at the right trip, assuming not too much goes wrong today. Against that Gaelic Warrior has been very hit and miss.
By:
Don't they bother with schooling at Closutton? Yesterday's winner was terrible, and Last Kingdom just as bad. From that sort of outfit, simply not good enough.
Chepstow going to be a great watch today. |
By:
I often think that jumping in Ireland leaves a lot to be desired. Plenty of falls and mistakes when I get round to watching it. Some of those 3yos at Leopardstown looked very surprised to see hurdles. But when the same horses come to GB they jump perfectly.

Limerick opener an absolute disgrace. Anyone who backed Barnahash Primsose 8/1-5/2 has been completely shafted. What on earth was O'Connor doing at the start? Everything was lined up, and he was walking round ten lengths out the back on the favourite. Why did the starter let them go? O'Connor rode a finish to get within 5-6 lengths of the last horse. You don't give that sort of ground away at any track, let alone a testing one such as Limerick. We all know the triers are at the front in Ireland. The race was won by the jock's chum, JP. O'Connor should be looking at a lengthy ban, but nothing will be said.

By:
Jeannot Lapin, what a lovely stamp of horse, a real old fashioned chaser. He's from the family of Epatante, and you can only imagine he didn't stay in points. Looks as if the trainer has found another Cedarwood Road. Let's hope this one kicks on. The least said about No Flies On Him the better, but some people will have collected each-way at 100/1. Third seemed the absolute limit of the jock's aspirations.

DD also in the 12.19 Twentyfourcarat was also well backed travelled well and inexplicably eased by jockey but not dismounted when pulled up (it may well be injured but hopefully not)
Im not a conspiracy theorist but... the winner had an essay written about its run lto ![]() |

Lowrys Bar much more comfortable going left handed that at Exeter which was right. Still improving fast. He has been on my to follow list for 18 months now.

Well judged ride on Della Casa Lunga. I think I might have deserved that after the Limerick debacle. Had a quick look and the each-way prices have gone on Leaky Cauldron. It's not going swimmingly for Mullins with Gaelic Warrior easily brushed aside.

Hello everyone
Thanks for your kind words from a couple of weeks ago about my missus who is convalescing well at home now The trainer Clive Boultbee Brooks I have been putting up from time to time just had that winner at Kempton, great front running ride from Richard Patrick |
By:
Apologies DD, didn't see that you'd put it up earlier
By:
OMG. I thought that Sir Gino would win with a clean round but that was as good a debut over fences that I have ever seen. Still think he is probably better than Constitution Hill. Rubaud started OK but dropped back very tamely-yet another Nicholls flop.
By:
Nice to see you back Reg. I did back and lay the Boultbee Brooks runner who made all.
By:
Don't think Sir Gino would have much trouble beating Jonbon if they gave it a go
By:
Sir Gino destroyed Ballyburn. The trainer's placement is the sole reason the second now has two defeats on his record. It could have been so much worse had Ballyburn come down at the last. Sir Gino is a two-miler, Ballyburn isn't. Will the trainer ever learn? Will anyone in the media ever criticise him?
By:
Now they are wondering if Mullins horses are sick. Perhaps for a change we have some very good ones here to win at least 2 of the Grade 1 races at Cheltenham. You were proved right dd and I did notice how much higher Ballyburn's ratings had been over 2.5 miles than 2 over hurdles.

MJK, running a 5yo in a Champion Chase or even in a Champion Hurdle has spoilt a lot of horses down the years. The Arkle is only available once so take it.
By:
You're right, but I think the option would beat least considered if the trainer didn't have both.
