Ah. So it was not stamina after all. Great shame. Where does GB even find a runner for the Gold Cup now?
By:
Gave the Wnr 24LB & the 2ND 17,that was a decent performance carrying 12st.
By:
Shame for horse , my mate had AP for National so just wanted a ' get round ', it looked as though it was going to be better than that .
By:
Well done Richard Philips. Doesn't have too many, but probably ran his best two today, and they both ran well.
Not sure what to make of the Irish bumper winner. He is probably early favourite for the Festval Bumper, but he isn't the most imposing, and the rag has ended up finishing quite close. |

Good luck Rachael Blackmore after such a long absence. How ever good they may feel, every jockey must go out in some trepidation when returning from injury.

Most interesting race for me is the maiden hurdle at Naas. It's not often that I have four (Shuffle The Deck, Quantum Quest, Pookie Holler and Affinity Rock) off my point list in one race. Of course that makes it a no bet race, but will keep an eye on all four. Perhaps a couple can make the frame? Shuffle The Deck ran nicely on hurdling debut, but looked a staying prospect, and consequently, might want a stiffer test than today affords. Mullins runs another french import, and who knows how good, or otherwise that one will be. Interesting he is starting it over a trip. May have a go at the bumper, but yet to decide. Did think about Times Are Green in the Southwell bumper last night, but that one has halved in price.
Don't know if I am in a minority in not getting excited about Blackmore's return. Personally, I don't think De Bromhead has missed her at all. Darragh O'Keeffe has been far more positive than she has been over the last few years. I guess some may have painful memories of Winged Leader being caught in the Cheltenham Foxhunters. I think it's worth mentioning that the ten year old is currently on a sequence of 14 straight point wins. It would be interesting to know the record number. |
By:
This Times Are Green looks very green and a bit of pig
By:
Times Are Green actually looks quite a nice type, but clearly should have no place on a racecourse just yet. Under the circumstances he stayed on quite well.
Slade Steel looked very slow again. Beaten by one of Mullins' second division. I wouldn't get carried away with the winner, jumping looked quite an effort. |
By:
Backed Scope To Improve each-way in the last. Won a small field point travelling well and going clear. If he travels like that today he should be competitive.
By:
Can't work Slade Steel, looks slow and one paced but all of its best form is over 2 miles. Basically ran the same race twice, tracked a supposed slower rival and can't quicken past it.
By:
Not sure Slade Steel's two-mile form is that good. Ballyburn aside, I think they were a poor bunch.
Shuffle The Deck won nicely with the prospect of more to come. Given the proximity of the small, Eastern Legend, not sure he had to improve that much to win. Lots of promise from Quantum Quest, staying on strongly without being knocked about. Likewise Affinity Rock, who dwarfed Karbau, should have no trouble winning a mares' race. Pookie Holler was never put into the race. |
By:
Wasn't too happy watching, but Scope To Improve did travel nicely, and at the line was a relatively comfortable winner.

Just used my free bet tomorrow on Sheeka Supreme. Mentioned on her two previous runs that she needed to find an easier race on much quicker ground. Well she gets both tomorrow, and the hood comes off. Just a shame that the stable isn't in any form. Big price, so fingers crossed she can recapture the point form.

By:
Just reading that Burdett Road is heading for the Christmas Hurdle as they want to find out how good he is before the Festival. I can't imagine anyone who has backed him thinks that is a good move. I suggested waiting for Kingwell, a race he would have a very good chance of winning. If he gets stuffed at Kempton, then what are you dreaming about? Much more chance of producing one big performance than two.
By:
Can someone remind Mulholland that the National Hunt Chase is a Graded race. Transmission is a progressive handicapper and the obvious Festival targets for him are the Kim Muir and Ultima.
By:
Yes I am also on Burdett Road for the CH and this decision will either reduce his price dramatically if he wins or make him an unlikely runner if he is well beaten. If Sir Gino does go chasing which seems a crazy idea at this stage of the season and Constitution Hill does not run (again) then it will be Mullins vs Burdett Road.
On another topic I note that Harry Cobden is finally giving his battered body a rest until Thursday at least so Paul Nicholls is down to Lorcan Williams and claimers at the moment. He did give Harry Skelton a steering job at Southwell today but he is unlikely to be available very often. His next choice is Nico de Boinville at Newbury on Wednesday. Miracle that Cobden managed to ride 3 winners at the weekend but he has finally called a halt. |
By:
Good to see some interest in Sheeka Supreme 200/1-66/1. Nothing last night, and I was beginning to think I was the only one.
By:
A few punters read your thread dd. I am struggling to get any inspiration today apart from backing 2 of the Tizzard runners at Wincanton. West Orchard is consistent and likes the course while American Land is another promising buy for Brocade racing.
By:
American Land only up 9lbs for two wins, and it doesn't look the strongest race. Disappointing if it doesn't land the hat trick. Frisby supported at Catterick 20/1-5/1. The bumper not a great proposition with only seven runners. Ballynoe Boy may have looked big at 14/1, but although I like the sire, the dam is just 2/92. In his point Cobbler's Boy set a steady pace, but was run down late on. To the eye it didn't look a great race, but the form has worked out very well with three of the other four to run winning since, and the other running a decent place.

By:
the nagg William Muggs held up behind the ambulance last time when short priced fav ,has been backed again today 5 to 4 from 7 to 2 available last night in the 1st at catt,Muggs not on board today, Patrick's drifted from 11 to 8 fav last night to 3,s + today
By:
Interesting early drift on Cobblers Boy. I believe this one could be a well above average and outclassed this field. Got bits on here at 5/2 & 9/4 and wouldn't be surprised if this went off close to his overnight price
By:
West Orchard kept jumping and held on well. I took the wrong price this morning though. Gyenyame could win as well but for me he is very short as 3 others have the same RPR.
By:
Sheeka Supreme gave it a good go, but the writing was on the wall turning in. That said she still probably touched down in third two out. Easily her best run of the season, and she might still win a mares' race. I think the key to that is the stable hitting some sort of form.
By:
First win for Tom George for a while. Just hasn't been running anything. He could be the next trainer to strike form.
By:
Woeful performance from American Land. That wasn't the 9lb. Never trust a horse with a high head carriage?
By:
Something lost a shoe which might have been him but that should not have caused such an awful run. At least I swerved the other Tizzard runners who were both beaten. A reason might emerge.

One bet tomorrow, my old friend, Aworkinprogress. I think he should be favourite. He has a way of winning with a little in hand. It will be disappointing if he doesn't continue the sequence. The rest of the card has no appeal.
At Newbury, there are plenty of shorties. Roysse was disappointing on hurdling debut, but has landed on a very modest race. He should win. King Califet didn't look much in his point, and the form hasn't worked out. Had I been hovering over a computer I would have taken Bet365's 9/1 about Mt Fugi Park, but I wasn't, so I left him alone. He started well last season, but didn't fulfill that initial promise. The long absent Nativehill has been put in very short in the novices hurdle. His point win hasn't worked out at all. This is the sort of race I would have expected to see Minella Premier in. What's happened to him? General Medrano looked a different horse last time. If he reproduces that then a 10lb rise shouldn't stop him. At Ludlow, The Kemble Brewery should have far too much for Meetmebythesea. There's an online sale tomorrow where the main interest will presumably, be in the John Nallen 'Minella' horses. Seems a strange place to selling them. |

Spirit Of Legend entered in the PP Chase Leopardstown 27th Dec over 3m 1/2 f.
Unlikely to take up the Entry would be my guess, would also need plenty to pull out. Might give a little clue what their intentions are long term, not one to give up on just yet. Anyone have a link to that PTP he ran in If there is one out there? ... TIA |

Three years ago so not sure it's of much use. Aworkinprogress now favourite. Any rain should help, and a pace to run at would also be a plus. |

Thanks DD
By:
Oh dear, Roysse throws another one away. Awful race, winner finished slower than Crisp.
By:
Good to see you post here Noc. I hope you're doing well. I guess Dan didn't want to risk CB on the quicker going yesterday? I said earlier on this thread that Wade Out will make a top class staying chaser someday. The 2M trip looks plenty short enough for him already but his grand attitude is helping him get the job done.
By:
Phew. A topsy turvy race at Newbury both before and during the race. I put Capt Bellamy up as a BSP bet as I was not sure if I would be able to watch it. When I went out at 10am it was around 5, then when the betfair show came up before the race it was 7.8 but by the time it started the BSP was just 4.95. In the race it went longer again for most of the way but suddenly shortened as they approached the final turn when it went odds on. I put it on the Div 2 tipping comp as well so 7/2 not bad. Paul Nicholls was very bullish about him in the Yearbook and he still looks as if he needs another year to reach his best. Lorcan needed that as it his first win since Cobden stopped riding.
By:
Aworkinprogress 1/1very short.
By:
It was and it won but 3 were out of the race early so not sure how good the race was.

DD got the value!

By:
Javert Allen wanted to get back to the paddock all the way up the Newbury straight! Beat a hound in 2nd and a few others didn't show up but he was a promising hurdler with strong form in the book. It looks like he'll take that up a level over fences.
By:
Aworkinprogress, not as good today (bit low at a few, and the jock took an age to switch inside the leader), but he got the job done, and they can't put him up much for that. 100/30, A nice reward.
Braindead ride by Bowen on Wade Out. If the horse so obviously wants further why set an absolute crawl? The Kemble Brewery already going backwards, and clearly not as good as the trainer has suggested. Another reverse for shortie backers. Mt Fugi Park very disappointing. Like so many in that yard, a bit of initial promise and then nothing. Buckna looks even further away from that 350,000 price tag. Thankfully, I wasn't suckered into backing General Medrano. Last time was too good to be true, and he isn't one to trust. A woeful day for Ben Jones. |
By:
Famoso a drifter but hacked up again. The fallers helped of course but he clearly loves jumping. Half brother to Tornado Flyer but not in that class.
By:
Oh dear! If Lorcan Williams gets a ban which looks likely, who will Nicholls have left? Ben Bromley, J Tidball and Olive. The jockeys agents will be on the phone.
