The Warwick bumper is often targeted by Pauling with his best bumper prospect. Previously won it with Barters Hill and Willoughby Court.
Legal Weapon tomorrow, managed to get on a few quid on at 7s before the price tumbled. |
By:
I like Telepathique tomorrow as well. Time LTO at the course was very fast according to my figures and can't see the trip being a problem on this sharpish track based on the Fakenham run.
By:
Good Luck. Interesting to see if it remains solid. Family of Lomitas, sire yet to make much impact. Pauling and Henderson 1/26 in bumpers this season.

I'm sticking up another Clive Boultbee Brooks horse tomorrow...
Served me well last week In the first at Warwick, El Gavilan There's not much to beat, all his form is in France, and he's attracted over half of the early money... Currently 5.8/6.0 to back/lay Gl all |
By:
Henderson seems to be getting into gear now so Bear Market looks a fairly safe bet at Warwick
. |
By:
Unlucky Reg. The bandage might have made a difference. El Gavilan was certainly backed. I was out this morning so risked a £1 on it at 6 with a lay off at 2.5 which was taken! Not often you get laid at such a short price before they have even started. The money is coming for the Henderson runner in the first division of the 2.5 novice now while Bear Market is a bit weaker.
By:
Don't think you could blame the bandage for El Gavilan. If it had been beaten half a length maybe, but not half the straight.
Favourite has held up in the bumper. There has been some support for Sutherland, although a few years ago it would have been near enough favourite. I backed it each-way first thing this morning in the hope it might be one of the trainer's better one's. |
By:
As The Fella Says ran out of puff. Traded as low as 1.17. Boultbee Brooks a very good third in that. Worth looking at his runners Reg.
By:
El Vigaro amazingly easy to back at Taunton. I have also backed Lucky Lugger for the Shepherds who are in great form.
By:
Bear Market beat around 3 out and eventually pulled up, cut out pretty quickly in the end. Histrionic ran ok but would be interested in him personally as he keeps wanting niggling on
By:
wouldn't be interested
By:
Well well. Went for Histrionic in the 12.55 but it is that man Bailey again with Reallyntruthfully. Very easy to back until turning in despite making all. Bear Market stopped dead. Perhaps most of Henderson's are still a few weeks away from full fitness.
By:
Quite fancy Lucky Lugger in the next at Warwick, been running well at Chepstow but he jumps really well so can see Warwick with the run of fences down the back straight suiting. Likes to be prominent, stable going well. Win bet
By:
Histrionic just looks very slow. Very much a 450,000 dud. Not looking great for Henderson so far today.
By:
Thrashed in the end, looked a bit out paced and always going a gear to quick chasing Skelton. Murphy/Bowen backers got one of the those rides and never had a chance
By:
Frustratingly, another each-way second. Unfortunately, it appeared Skelton bossed Cannon - probably not difficult - in the tactical department. Telepathique ran well, but she could never get upsides, made a few mistakes late on, and in the end didn't get home. Wouldn't be at all surprised if she dropped back in trip. The market did overrate You Wear It Well, who was never at the races.
By:
Lucky Lugger didn't look happy on the track or the ground. He seemed to lose his action coming down the hill but then closed with the winner again on the flat. I would take him back to a flat track and better ground. Alexei might not have beaten much at Taunton but easily the classiest performance today so far. Brocade are very lucky owners and this could be another high class one for them.
By:
Had a bit on Ilikethenightlife at 20 and laid it off. She didn't have the pace at that class or distance. I would have lost a place bet in a photo dd but didn't have one. That is me for today. 3 wins and 5 losers, all laid off in running apart from Florencethemachine.
Royal Approach El Vigaro El Gavilan As The Fella Says Histrionic Lucky Lugger Langley Hundred place only Florencethemachine (lost) Ilovethenightlife |
By:
ilovethenitelive , she wears it well and Florence and the machine no joy, TOTP,s not what it used to be
![]() |
By:
Alexei was good, but looking ahead it looks as if he wants a quicker surface, and you are never too sure how long the flat breds are going to enjoy the jumping game. I rarely back them. I could see this one turning up at Musselburgh.
By:
True. And who wins the biggest prize at Taunton after a disappointing day previously? Paul Nicholls, but I didn't even realise it was the richest race so didn't have a bet in what looked a very tricky contest.
By:
NEW ORDER one back for TOTP fans

By:
I am sure saxon didn't mind, but a nonsense of a race for the bumper. Fortunately, these days not too many are run like that. The favourite not inconvenienced by sitting on the front end of a dawdle. Sutherland - a big late drifter 7/2-13/2 - landed another each-way, but his head carriage was horrible, and I won't be rushing to back him again.
By:
Correct dd the race was a nonsense. I was lucky.
However, it needs correcting that Sutherland was not necessarily a drifter being available at 7/1 for 11 hours before the race. |
By:
Have to disagree, it's not lucky when the winner sits on the front end in a slowly run race. Not pleasing to watch, but it's a good ride. Sutherland was available at even bigger than 7/1, but was a LATE drifter.
I think a better card at Cheltenham tomorrow than Saturday. The December Gold Cup is as bad as the Coral Gold Cup. In general Saturday isn't great. Even in Ireland only the first and last races are of much interest at Fairyhouse. Two bets at Cheltenham, Media Naranja and Chianti Classico. Yet to decide on one at Bangor. Media Naranja has turned in a series of solid, big field handicap performances, and has a decent each-way chance at a big price. The better the ground, the better her chance. Chianti Classico has been progressive, with the possible exception of when Cobden took over, and should be able to concede the weight. That said he will need to find a good bit more to be a genuine Gold Cup horse. Gethings should keep it simple and dominate from the front. The opener is interesting in that the two favourites both drop in trip. Could they lack a gear against the other two? Although That's Nice won nicely at Warwick her jumping was far from slick. My interest in the second race is left field as I continue to be intrigued by Ballymackie running in races he cannot win. If he can eventually get a mark could he be one for the novices handicap? In the Media Naranja race I will also be watching Joyeux Machin on first run for Skelton. This is his ground, but probably an exercise in getting his weight down. Seddon did me a couple of huge turns at Cheltenham and Punchestown, but can he do this off an even higher mark? Ground again should be a plus, but not sure he retains enough ability. Has been supported. The Cross Country looks very competitive. Having backed it for the Festival last season, Latenightpass would be a bittersweet winner. Arizona Cardinal looks well handicapped if he takes to it. Doyen Quest by far the most obvious winner of the last, but nearly 1/1 in a handicap? Just a watch at that price. Zain Nights, an each-way chance, but Cobden (1/15 and that was 2/9 where the second got a poor ride) on an outside ride hardly fills you with confidence. |

Morning all
Missed everything yesterday because of an emergency Briefly,a massive then you to our NHS staff My missus woke up very with severe chest pains yesterday morning After persuading her to let me call 999... 8.45...ambulance arrives 9.45...ater ECG tests, ambulance crew in contact with Musgrove Hospital, Taunton 10.15...blue lights all the way, arrive, straight into cardiac unit 11.30...2 stents fitted, sitting up in bed in the ward She'd had a heart attack The service from the Ambulance crew through to the hospital staff was FANTASTIC Cannot praise them highly enough And don't forget to tell your loved ones that you love them every so often |
By:
Best wishes Reg.
I agree that Saturday is a better day on paper dd. Chianti Classico is my only bet so far and he is very short now. That's Nice could be very good but he has a lot to prove. Silly bet on Palacio to lay off perhaps? Caldwell Potter has stronger claims but Jango Baie is a big danger. You have a long priced one in the 1.15. I have looked at To Chase a Dream and Spirits Bay but no decision yet. probably place only. Eldorado Allen has been running in staying races for a while but started off over shorter. High Game Royal place only in the last. I really can't see a bet on the other GB cards. |
By:
I am actually saying the opposite, I think Saturday is relatively poor. My only bet so far is Wyenot, and again missed the best prices.
Media Naranja a big drifter, wish I had waited. Added Alan De Banks each-way at Bangor, but again missed the bigger prices. This is a big, work in progress, who might well prefer a more galloping track, but his hurdling debut looks good enough to be in the mix. The favourite looked plenty short enough. Good luck Reg. Personally, I would find it very difficult to put that on a forum, but everyone is different. Racing clearly not top of your priorities at the moment. |
By:
Cheers sage and DD
Yes, the racing can wait, I'm at the hospital now having a tea break while the consultant is visiting I only said about it to give huge praise to the NHS staff who sometimes get bad press Once again today, the attention of the staff is brilliant |
By:
Sorry to hear this Reg, sending best wishes.

By:
nice one reg
NHS at its best the forum needs Mrs Reggie's tips back as quick as possible |
By:
most of the bad press the NHS is from people who don't use it, its obviously patchy depending on where you live but my local Dr,s surgeries and James cook in BORO have always been fantastic for my family

Still hard to read Henderson. One hotpot tailed off then a first time out winner. Nicholls on the whole disappointing despite Him Malaya yesterday.
By:
typical. 2 place bets fourth and fifth. I thought that Spirits Bay was nailed on second at the last. At least I laid that one off but not To Chase a Dream who was well backed. Winner trotted up. How good might Bo Zenith be? They must have a target in mind to ride it like that.

By:
Opening race not too much of a surprise. Even if there was a problem with the favourite she still doesn't jump well enough. Looking like a pointless exercise with Ballymackie. Didn't take to the fences, and you wonder if the confidence is there to win even an ordinary novice chase. It now looks very poor training as this was a relatively expensive purchase that has delivered nothing. The market for Media Naranja told a story. Kealy put it up, and off the back of that she could easily have gone off 12/1. Instead 33/1 was freely available. Maybe she didn't travel well, who knows? It's very difficult to read those races where one horse bolts clear. If you are on each-way the last place you want to be is heading the chasing pack, particularly on a stiff track, and Media Naranja never looked likely to see it out. Joyeux Machin, not knocked about, but never at the races.
By:
Great race over 3.2 miles but just too far for Chianti who pulled a bit on the first circuit. Once again the hill changes the picture completely.
By:
I wouldn't make too many excuses for Chianti Classico. His finishing effort was feeble. He isn't very big, and his jumping was no better than okay. On that evidence he isn't either a Gold Cup or Grand Naional horse. Might be difficult to place unless they can find a few small field races round the likes of Ascot. Winner much too tough, and might be able to defy the weight rise, particularly as he didn't have an easy lead.
