Not like politicians from EVERY party to lie and con their way into power is it. It is what it is now, and in a few years time you may actually be thinking it was a great decision. NOBODY honestly knows exactly what will happen.

The sense that turkeys voted for Christmas is accurate considering the argument that a vote to exit was to eliminate the effective feudalism of Europe.....which will actually mean we place more power back into the hands of our own politicians who get voted in telling everyone it's a democracy and that we agreed to the policies that the few decide on in parliament.

The few that agreed the structure of that democracy are far out weighed over time by those who are most effected by it.
They might as well ask you to vote on your favourite colour and call that a tasset agreement that gives the elected a mandate to rule.

all depends on how you define 'worse off' - yes there will be economic impact for 2-5 years (but there will be no tears for investment bankers leaving london for frankfurt/paris) but there has been economic impacts with ZERO benefits for UK over past 20-30 years, at least this time there will be (eventually) significant benefits and advantages...

it's time that the media (primarily) and the elite understood that the average man in the street does not measure quality of life purely by their income and indeed when 'big' business advise to take one position, all of our natural instincts should tell us to do the opposite - yes of course their own salaries/pensions etc are booming on the backs of a low paid workforce, there should be rules as to what the maximum differential between the compensation packages between any company executive and the average (non-executive) employee

There was a lot of crap stated by both remain and leave camps before the vote and sadly to say, it is continuing by both after the leave win. A democratic vote has occurred and everyone (and i mean everyone) should pull together and start looking at the long term positives to get the GREAT in GB to actually mean it, the way it did in bygone times.

Of course it's a long term project, there will be short term risks and negatives, but I have no doubt that my daughters future is improved.

We are not part of the Schengen agreement, so no change there. We will still be able to live and work in the EU, I lived and worked in Sweden (the first time) before they joined the EU. It's also possible we will negotiate a deal as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Norway currently have.

With UK leaving EU, they have more to lose than us, we are the 5th largest economy in the world. We will not lose business, in fact, we will gain more in time. The EU has been trying to set up deals with India for 9 years ! A free UK will not be subjected to such a constraint.

The UK pulled together in 1939 to fight a dictatorship, now is the time to show some of that same spirit.

Financial services earned by the City of London keep this country afloat.A reduction in those earnings will mean that public sector expenditure including social security benefits, health and education will be cut.Interest rates will inevitably rise and asset prices fall meaning that those with defined contribution pension schemes will have smaller pots and of course smaller pensions. This could be the start of a return to the dark ages.

In '39 everyone was fighting a common enemy - now we're too busy fighting among ourselves. The young blame the old, the south blames the north and vice versa, the tories and labour both in-fighting. GRIM.

While ever politics is run on deceit and the electorate are wheeled out once then dismissed then you will always be controlled.

The turkeys took the only chance they were given to vote against Christmas. They took it. The alternative may be worse, but you shouldn't blame them for having a go. The ruling elite are upset because the people didn't do what they were told to do. Well the ruling elite should have done a better job of ruling.
By:

When: 26 Jun 16 10:48
But the ruling elite now have more powers at their disposal after the electorate is dismissed as a result of the vote.
It's another paradox.
If you don't trust those in power then things just got worse by giving them more power.

It's hard to know what will happen now. I think largely it was a vote of rebellion. The people do have power. They used it once, they can use it again.

The ppl are too invested in the system through money.
It's like homeowners not wanting to bring down house prices in the area, no body will truly rebel...not in affluent countries.

You have the power the system has decided you have....which is practically none.
By:

When: 26 Jun 16 11:25
But the more 'disinvested' people there are (and that number is increasing), the more rebels are created. Imo, this referendum has just proved that - to the surprise of all the pollsters, who obviously failed to poll enough 'disinvested' people.

posy - Financial services earned by the City of London keep this country afloat.

which financial service company do you represent??!!!

the amount of direct money paid by the tax payer to keep most of those service companies in London afloat since 2008 would account for at least 20 years of corporation taxes!! and that's not even taking into account the massive impact on the ordinary tax payer of their tax revenues being diverted (un-democratically) to those companies who are basically gamblers like most on here but now with the safety net of knowing when times are good, then the yachts, ferraris and champagne are on them and when they've made losing bets then no panic, the government will bale them out...

Will immigration reduce? Probably not.
Will the NHS have an extra 350 million per week? No.

Yes, lies from both sides, but these were the two main reasons for leave voters and already both have been binned.

Leavers have no idea what they voted for, as they have no idea who the Prime Minister will be and which route to exit he/she will take.

A cry of disillusionment but what an expensive cry it will be for those at the bottom of the pile.

The loss of the ESF etc (and obvious non replacement by the tories) will be a huge loss to many ex industrial communities that certainly wasn't explained to them (by either side) and along with the (now proven) lies of £350m/week and that immigration will probably not be reduced and many will begin to feel cheated very soon if they don't see action fast.
I'm pretty sure the (temporary) replacement for 'CAP' which pays lots of money to land owners for doing feck all - some of which are domiciled (for tax) owners of certain national newspapers (heck even the editor gets a CAP subsidy from the E.U) - will be done and dusted long before these communities will see a penny in replacement. Some mealy mouthed announcement will be made that means nothing and as usual these people will be forgotten about having been shat on by the establishment.

Lets put this to bed - the rest of the world is not going to force the UK into recession - anything that comes by us will be of our own making. It is the same argument that Germany won't impose tariffs - if they won't do that then they won't force a big market of theirs into recession so it's very simple. The latest by the leave side (Liam Fox) is suggesting that if there aren't adequate safety plans in place (as a result of brexit) and we crash then that is the fault of the gov not them. Of course that is forgetting that the leave camp was the gov as well! As the £ falls then obv petrol will go up as will pretty  much everythng else - that has already been acknowledged by the leave side as it's simple economics.

Will immigration reduce? Probably not.

That depends on future legislation but I'd apply the following, if people from outside UK (whether from EU or not) want to live/work in UK for more than 3-6 months then they need

a) financial evidence that they can support themselves
b) a confirmed job offer from a legitimate employer, private or public
c) a place of accommodation

Will the NHS have an extra 350 million per week? No.

Depends on what a future government decides to do with the approx additional 9bn pounds (i.e. the real difference between money sent by UK to EU and that coming back in grants etc from EU to UK).  Hopefully a large part of that will indeed go to NHS but education, infrastructure, criminal justice, social welfare all deserve their share too and if there is a slow down in immigration/population growth then the pressures on NHS should also decrease

Truth is ALL the professional political parties con and abuse the working classes. This is par for the course.
We live under capitalism; we still live under capitalism.
The ills of that system will remain long after jeremy and nige are gone and forgotten.

This is the WRONG FORUM,  but

may we have the official numbers for immigration
on England's "" Independence Day"", please? ( 23 June 2016)

I realise 'tis hard for politicians to tell the truth, but is there at least one person out there who can furnish us with the required figures, please?

If these are not available, please send in any old thing that ye read on the side of a bus.

Please bear in mind that these numbers will be recorded for future analysis.

Majority of lemmings in favour of jumping off cliff

A new poll has revealed that over 50% of the lemming population favour jumping off the cliff to an almost certain messy and agonising death.

“The poll results are fascinating,” said lemming pollster Simon Williams.

“Lemmings have a happy, comfortable, enjoyable life on top of the cliff and yet many of them believe that a suicidal jump onto the jagged rocks below would give them a better quality of life.”

A senior lemming figure from the ‘Vote Jump’ campaign group explained.

“Some lemmings say that a huge drop onto jagged rocks would be fatal, but the fact is that no lemming really knows what would happen if we all jumped onto a bunch of jagged rocks; we could bounce, the rocks could disappear, or we could strike up a robust trading deal with the rocks.

“All of these are all very real possibilities.

“To say that we would all be broken and killed by the rocks is just blatant scaremongering by a centralised elite group who seemingly have no confidence in the resilient nature of us lemmings.”

A ‘Vote Jump’ supporter agreed.

“Yeah, we’d be better off jumping for definite,” he said.

“I mean, yeah, being on top of the cliff and not dying and everything is great, but there are so many voles and guinea pigs coming in now that it just doesn’t feel like a lemming cliff anymore, you know?”

In other news, a recently conducted poll has revealed that Turkeys intend to vote for Christmas.

So the Prime Minister has resigned, the pound is falling through the floor, billions have been wiped off the share prices of British companies, Scotland are going to break away from the UK, tensions in Ireland may well reignite, and the new Prime Minister is likely to be someone who could double as a circus clown.

On the plus side, Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, Rupert Murdoch and Katie Hopkins are delighted, and a bunch of blinkered little Englanders get to pretend it's still 1945.

But worst of all, imo, people who have grown up in the most suffocating, oppressive regimes in the history of post war Europe, and who have come over here to clean our toilets in the hope of a better future for their children, now have to live in an environment where there is a mandate for the abuse they experience from xenophobic union jack wearing idiots, every day of their lives.

We should be ashamed of ourselves, imo...

The irony of course, is that the lemming myth exists because they WERE pushed. In the Disney film of the 1950s which shows lemmings 'jumping' off a cliff, the camera crew pushed the lemmings off the cliff to make it look like it was natural lemming behaviour. It isn't. They don't do it. They sometimes drown trying to swim across rivers and lakes - when they are driven to do so by population explosions - and that is happening now to humans, sure enough....
