Actually from RUK website

By Andy Stephens at Epsom

Wanting to paint a fairytale picture, but would be far better if it could be done with some correct facts and opinions not thro rose/blacked out tinted glasses.

Just before Workforce finished 12th in he Arc he had a racecourse gallop at Sandown.  Dux Scholar looked like he could take him any time he liked.  Stoute was reported as pleased.

thanks I trust yr view, .   As soon as it won the Dante I was 100% sure it didn't have the physical attributes or balance to win a derby.  There are conflicting views on it seems so I'll view the vids tomorrow

Unless you know how the horse usually works, the relative weights carried, the previous work schedule ,ground preferences (it was soft today),and  riding instructions, I would suggest that observations should be limited to whether it still has 4 legs. They will be travelling at least 1-2 sec per furlong faster and over further in the race so making comparisons with the other horses is about as useful as watching in the dark on TV with just the sound on.n Blucher is a 8f horse who seemingly acts on soft. Over 3f sprint why shouldn't he travel as  anyway.

Madhu. Asking GIG to comment on its centre of gravity made me laugh

sure, centre of gravity is important not so much in flat, more so at jumps, but probably more so at Epsom, and not really to be laughed.  Not an expert in horse racing mechanics, but for visually 'unbalanced' horses such as Harzand and WOD the rider would need to alter their normal riding position to suit. Correct if wrong.

If I remember donkeys ago, Willie Carson on the beeb was muttering on about that and di think of it as trivial at the time.  unbalanced horses usually don't end up going epsom though, but if they do, saddle position and riding position is fairly significantly altered form the normal for equilibrum.  Interesting you brought that subject up Sandown.

Gig- regarding your firm ideas on Wings of Desire- massive frame, balance and poise, centre of gravity, and no chance of handling Epsom at racing pace, here is the kin video, get on with it and analyse and advise. Why make us wait in anticipation until tomorrow.

Does a donkey have a centre of gravity similar to a thoroughbred GiG?

he's visually unbalanced?
Ain't been to Epsom yet.

hey madhu, namaste, if WOD is the big super freak gosden makes him out to be you never know he'll be handling those bends at top speed. I mean look at Usain Bolt - he isn't the prototype athlete, yet he is a double 100m olympic champ. My opinion , reaseheath's opinion, etc is just that, if you believe in yr opinion, which is the most important, that's the only thing that counts.   As to WOD, If I think he;ll handle the bends ok, i'll just back WOD on the day, though my profit won;t be very big. But  no big deal as long as I make the green stuff.

Barny Curly a few quid.

Hi penzanze. I saw Harzand, in proportion it's heavy top makes it legs look like matchsticks . lol. would be funny to see it around the circus of epsom.  i think i backed it for 2 quid a while back as a free bet.

I think Harzand's got the makings of
a class horse, but if he stays Massaat
wins the Derby.

Harzand's participation sounds very ground dependent to me. Mind you Weld says that about a lot of his horses. They all seems to need cut!

I'm expecting a clear cut winner in the Derby presently with limited race experience but huge potential which will be unleashed in the race - who are they? WOD, UAR, Harzand or Ulysses?

i like idaho , crazy to send the gurkha for the st james palace imo . i remember o brien saying galileo himself would be a top class 7 f horse and hes pulled the plug on a stamina pedigreed classic winner . i think its a touch of arrogance that he thinks he can engineer us army  ranger . he looks a flop to me

gzp6316 what's the chance of the gurhka going to the french derby after ascot?
By:
impossible123
When: 24 May 16 21:00
The French Derby is on the day after the English one.

It's all about business: Coolmore needs another crack miler stallion to challenge the likes of Frankel and Kingman. At the moment they only have Gleneagles, I believe. Anyway, The Gurkha is unlikely to stay 12f in my opinion, and the same goes for Massaat who's as likely to stay the Derby trip as Galileo Gold I believe.

416 posts since I last caught up with this thread. Brilliant. It's got everything that the
BF forum can offer - perhaps even a surfeit in some respects.

As for The Derby, surely one of the most interesting markets for years. I can't remember seeing
quite so many favourites come and go so quickly. I wish we didn't have to contend with all the
calculations about who runs which of their enormous string where. It would be great to think that
the winner of the race was this year's best 3yo middle distance racehorse. What an antediluvian idea.
I'm getting old.

My pick? I'm with The Headmaster - I'll try and get a green book by working the fluctuations. It's
going to be interesting.

Don't usually bet much AP other than Cheltenham, but have done 5 in the Derby and amazingly all are still in (for now)

All small stakes

Ulysses         28

Port Douglas    34

Massaat         29

Harzand         150

Algometer       170

I also did trebles fours and an accy on the following

Epsom Derby 2016
Harzand - 21

Epsom Dash
Maljaa -  11

Yorkshire Cup
Clever Cookie - 7
--    --    Won

Lockinge Stakes
Belardo   -  13
--    --    Won

Epsom Oaks 2016
So Mi Dar - 6

Shame about So Di Mar

Would have been an exciting Epsom

p.s i also remember that duff racing post trophy winner that was hyped kingsbarns i remember the reporters quizzing him on what a rounded action he had and how epsom wouldnt suit and he wouldnt have a bit of it . i also remember him being hyper critical of top jocks  but never said a word regarding josephs race riding . i think us army ranger is the horse he wants to win the derby with rather than the logical pick .  i will take  idaho though the gurkha would have won it by 10ls if he let it take its chance
