Layed all my Shogun bet at 46.22. May lay a bit more if he lines up. Now need to try and work out what might actually win the race, only have Cloth of Stars at 16 other than Shogun.

Well done The Headmaster, how did you get that. Interesting read kincsem- "spells of intermittent lameness" and "not very big" and plunge horse in January!
Forget my earlier post- Going by the changes in the bookies markets, Ulysses, Humphrey Bogart and Wings of Desire are the only horses supplemented today with Linguistic the absentee- for some reason I thought the supplementary stage was today. |

Cheers Kinscem.
I believe it got beat on its debut as 3 year old (didnt start fav) but won its maiden on the sand readily next time up So has all the hallmarks to be @ the front of The Derby betting ![]() Should improve when it comes in its coat |

As someone said Ulysses would need to improve 25-30lbs to win, which as someone said before is like leicester winning the prem.
really? |
|
By:
yes. someone suggested that . as the most a horse had improved to win the derby was 23 lbs. so should actually read 23lbs+. correction and apologies

i;m taking those stats as genuine.

Dunlop mulls Derby for Haydock star Verdon
By Lee Mottershead 6:34PM 23 MAY 2016 AN INVESTEC DERBY set to be full of supplementary entries could yet feature another with the connections of last weekend's runaway Haydock handicap winner Red Verdon contemplating an audacious assault on the Epsom Classic. The Ed Dunlop-trained son of Lemon Drop Kid sauntered to a five-length victory off a mark of 88 on Saturday, leading most observers to note him down as a major contender for the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot. However, Dunlop and owner Ronnie Arculli will consider the colt's revised BHA rating, published on Tuesday, before determining whether to pay £75,000 to add him into the Derby, for which Wings Of Desire, Cloth Of Stars and Humphrey Bogart are already due to be supplemented. |

Howsellsy i tend to agree i have been harsh on the horse but on the other hand i'm being forced to take 4/1 about him for the derby which in my opinion he doesn't deserve to be...
i just thought he had to work incredibly hard to win and in my opinion moore had to get very serious with the horse in order to get his nose in front and the second was very tenderly ridden in order to allow him to win...i just don't like the fact he had to work so hard to win and i doubt he enjoyed the experience, imo he was taken to the max which i just didn't like...i see him as a rushed horse now which just isn't ideal and i feel i'm not getting the right price in order to back this run up...he may well prove me wrong and that is obvious for all to see, considering he is so lightly raced and hyped to the max i see the negativity in ulysses and he has just won a maiden... in a normal year of decent class colts he would be at least 20/1 for this as we stand but i don't see the level of horse to make me worry and can see better ground and the trip make him very competitive...i see people saying he needs to improve 23lbs to win, what a lot of nonsense, they are clearly rating these horses in the class of a top notch derby winner i'm afraid i don't see that here, in fact if he improves 16-18 he will win, which is not out of the question with any amount of improvement in the horse likely like i say i haven't had a bet so am not biased in my opinion and could well be wrong but i like him, so will wait till nearer the day and go from there, if the price isn't right i won't bet |

i see people saying he needs to improve 23lbs to win, what a lot of nonsense, People misinterpret stats. 1. The average RPR for a Derby winner since 1989 is 125. 2. The RPR given to Ulysses for his 3rd run was 99. Ergo, he needs to find 26 lb to match the average. 3. The lowest Derby rating in this period was given to Sir Percy at 118, i.e a further 19 lb required to match that. 4. The average improvement off a 4th run for a winner is 8lb. The highest was 16lb (High Rise) I provide the stats. It is for you to judge his chances. |

You have to think Shaamit is the horse that makes the rule so to speak. Ran twice before the Derby with two solid rpr's of 84 and then wins the Derby at 12/1 rated 125!
On that basis Ulysses will be 6/1 on the day! |

Racing UK Twitter feed recommended reading this morning for all the BWTS gossip.
Frankie's comments on Wings Of Desire and Ulysses interesting, he seems to fancy latter more than the former! There's also a 7 second video so you can assess how WOD handled the track, Greed |

AOB is very keen on UAR who is working well and is open to the most improvement of his bunch of possibles/probables ie UAR, PD, Deauville, Idaho (Shogun and The Gurkha elsewhere), but UAR is still a big baby.
|
|
By:
not a surprise rease about WOD. thanks for the info . I very much doubt PD will run after those AOB comments. I have backed PD but I would warn people off
|
|
By:
AOB's comments also included an opinion that he would choose PD if he were a jockey!
Take it all with a pinch of salt, obvs.... |
|
By:
^ that's despite the fact that he apparently shows little at home by the way
|
|
By:
Turn it in GIG.
Port Douglas is the second name on the Ballydoyle team sheet ffs. |
|
By:
A good chance Moore will ride UAR but it will be left until the last minute, according to AOB.

A travesty for the backers of PD if UAR is Derby bound and PD is not - incomprehensible!
|
|
By:
i'd rather him say, 'we're going straight there' rather than 'there is a good chance', so wouldn't top up on this bet or anything.
|
|
By:
Deauville and USAR were thought to be the AOB first and second string (either order) a few weeks back. Deauville was not fully fit in the Dante and apparently blew for along time afterwards.
I think the odds of Cloth and Ulysses compared with Deauville is nuts ! |
|
By:
I'm on about you typing "I very much doubt PD will run after those AOB comments" when O'Brien has confirmed him for the race this morning.
Stop making it up as you go along....or maybe at least pause for a second before you post? |
