trip has to be a big worry thou
By:
Will he go up 10lb for that win
By:
Yesterday's race was surely a mile away from the quality of a normal Paddy Power, not to mention the diffeent distance - if he goes up 5-7lb as well I really couldn't fancy him. Good luck though.
By:
Johns Spirit - Backed as if defeat out of the question and then KO'd when RE went wrong (RIP to that poor chap).
The winner looked very good though - could we see him in this race ? |
By:
Apparently the PPGC is next for Sound Investment. Hopefully he turns up as he'll be off 160+ so will keep the weights down.

It's likely going to be run at break neck pace if Cocktails At Dawn, Boondomma and Kings Palace turn up. Look for a closer and Buywise could fit the bill. 5th last year btn 3 lengths. Btn same distance into 4th at the Festival last March and 3rd yesterday closing in the Old Roan. Sent off for all 3 of those races at single figure odds. Race will be run to suit and maybe softer would help. Could be more exposed than some but sure to be in the shake up barring accidents and 20/1 is fair.
By:
Johns Spirit 20-1 with billys looks a great bet, only 1lb higher than last year when 2nd, just caught close home. Won it the year before, course suits him. Jumps fast and low, but can miss one, which happened at Aintree before being hampered and eventually pulled up. He travelled okay before that. Handles any ground but softish would be ideal.
By:
Buywise looks like he's crying out for 3 miles to me.
By:
Really like the look of Irish cavalier and definitely champagne west both floating around 16s, if run at a fast pace will suit champagne as he's more of a stayer and I've just seen cavaliers also got an entry in the Charlie hall at the weekend which would sway me more towards champagne west
By:
Bear, for info, Champagne West won't be out until Christmas, according to the trainer. RP last week.

Entries are 'revealed' on Wednesday chaps ..

By:
Harch you are a font of knowledge like John's Spirit myself think last run was a blow out for him which he needed will come on for the run Kings Palace the danger to all
By:
I am still hoping that Irish Cavalier will run in the Charlie Hall and still go to Cheltenham as he is a course winner and clearly in great form. If he runs well at Wetherby and still goers to the PP he will surely be a single figure price.
By:
Bigben - You might be spot on re the 3 miles for Buywise, but softer ground over 2m5f could be just as effective. We'll see.
Not sure about Irish Cavalier as a lot depends on Saturday. If he runs a stormer maybe they will keep him to 3m+ and if he's well beaten then you'll get a big price anyway for the PP should they go for it. I'd wait and see. |

Pipey will enter 3. Have a look at his website for comments. Cards close to chest as ever and talks about firming plans up nearer the race ...

Boondooma gone up 7lb, now rated 154, that's not too prohibitive.
By:
shockster/bigben
imo Buywise needs a change in jockey |
By:
I think the 8nteresting Pipe one is Dell Arca. Three runs, low-140's rating. Could well have the 10lbs improvement needed from his OR.
By:
Oscar Rock and Splash of Ginge are 2 that interest me from the entry list.
By:
Depending on what weight choose to give Clarcam, that would be one for me at this stage. It's a poor race in depth, a gambled horse could indeed start quite short
By:
I thought it was a very strong entry - obviously the final field may be far less competitive. I'll certainly be looking for an early chance to lay off my Kings Palace bet - if I can lay off at 8/1 I'll be very happy.
One that piqued my interest was Ballycasey - he has won impressively first time up every season so this could be the day to catch him, especially if it was proper soft ground. But as usual with Mullins you can't really play until the final decs. ![]() |
By:
Dell Arca's drifted a bit, 30.0 being offered, last take was 23.0. Is that significant?
By:
Scrub that, only £2 been matched on him, so probably means nothing.
By:
Been away from TV and internet since Friday. Any news about why Irish Cavalier didn't run at the weekend. Presumably ground so still a contender for the PP?
By:
Just started looking at this race and find Kings Palace quite hard to read really, not sure if value or not ? Having a closer look at Taquin Du Seuil, Cloud Creeper, Annacotty, Art Mauresque, Dell Arca as a starting point
By:
I think Art Mauresque is very interesting if he can translate his form to a bigger field & handle the hurley burley of a top handicap.

Mr Mole, 2miler too high a mark.
Third Intention, highest ever mark, nope. Vibrat Valtat, Haldon GC, Tingle Creek bound. Johns Spirit, will run well and could place, but not for win purposes. Ptit Zig, Down Royal winner, nothing to tell me he will turn up here. TGB, oldster. Irish Cavalier, progressive young chase, shortlisted. Oscar Rock, progressive young chase, shortlisted. Sound Investment, early season target was Old Roan, hard to envisage some more improvement so soon after. Potential superstar if he can. Kings Palace, has to be considered given connections, but I'm not keen on him in a big field, hasn't beaten much. Boondooma, well fancied and this is his target and should run well, but I reckon his latest 7lb rise will do for his chances. Cocktails at Dawn, same as above. Taquin Du Seuil, he's interesting as he's dropping down the weights, but it would be a leap of faith given how bad last season was, however, potetially top class he looked in his novice season. Shortlisted. Croco Bay, too high in weights. Cloud Creeper, super progressive last year, trainer thinks he is too high, so do I, but aimed at the race. Double Ross, has run some decent races but hasn't won since he was rated 140 nearly 2years ago. Next Sensation, 2miler who is competative when his mark is in the low 140's Splash of Ginge, still on his highest rating of 153, not for me as I dont believe he has any more to come. Annacotty, will be interesting to see what King does with this animal, this is a big ask mind. Art Mauresque, typical Nicholls youngster, very progressive, shortlisted althought not tried in big fields as yet.4 Buywise, dont think this is his trip, and is looking exposed to me. Darna, only 5lb higher than his festival win, but I'm not convinced this will be a target, sure to be trained with festival in mind again. Present View, last run was very off putting, and not dropping in the weights, he's higher than last renewal where he slowed up the hill, not convinced this is his track. Bennys Mist, seasons return was poor, high enough in weights. Easter Day, he is of interest, trainer reckons he is well treated, so do I, shortlisted. Dell Arca, trainers stable tour, "we'll swap him between chases and hurdles, maybe go to France, and I'd like to try him on the flat, would like to try 3miles again" Feck knows what to make of that p!sh. Horizontal Speed, young and progressive, ran well at festival and had a fair seasonaldebut, shortlisted Monetaire, could run well, does need genuine soft ground, I'm not convinced though. Thomas Crapper, fully exposed. Little Jon, I'm not convinced Cheltenham is his track even though he had a decent festival run. No Buts, doubtful he has anything hidden from the handicapper, needs a bog. Astracad, only nine years old as seems like hes been about for donkeys. But I'd be gobsmacked if he won this. La Vaticane, this is the pipe runner to be interested about, and race a possibility acording to recent stable tour, completely unexposed young mare. Shortlisted. African Gold, recent return from injury was disapointing, can be given another chance as he was returning from a long lay off, but a big ask to win this. Pumped Up For kicks recent run was woeful, doubtful she will turn up. Minella Present, could be a well handicapped chaser, but not convinced he will get in. Ericht, doesnt like Cheltenham. Tara Road, no chance. Upepito, no chance. Generous Ransom, ran well at festival could be progressive, shortlisted. Alelchi Inois, being ut aay for the winter according to recent stable tour. Salubrious, stayer returning from injury. Texas Jack, nope. Gitane Du Berlais, mudlover, nope. Devils Bride, ran yesterday so doubtful. Clarcam, going down the graded race route, if he turns up I'll be interested from a stable that is flying. Bless The Wings, nope. Ballycasey, trained for the national again. Shanpallas, stayer on highest ever mark. The Clock Leary, doubtful that he will get in. My Shortlist Irish Cavalier 16/1 Oscar Rock 16/1 Taquin Du Seuil 20/1 Art Mauresque 25/1 Easter Day 33/1 Horizontal Speed 40/1 La Vaticane 25/1 Generous Ransom 25/1 |

Nice overview thanks ...
By:
Easter Day also entered for Badger Ales but can't think PN will run him in that as has Benvolio off of very similar mark who is likely to run as sponsors horse ...
By:
I usually like having a crack at this race antepost but this year seem be struggling.
Assuming Boondooma,Kings Palace and Cocktails at Dawn run the one certainty is that its gonna be run at a very strong gallop so could be set up for a finisher. I will defo have few quid eway on Johns Spirit who just doesn't run a bad race over this c+d but would expect something to be better handicapped. Obviously Pipe targets this race every year and has a very strong hand again with Kings Palace,Monetaire,Dell Arca and the very interesting La Vaticane. This horse could run in any of 4 or 5 races at the meeting and is certainly 1 to watch for. |
By:
Irish Cavalier and Oscar Rock are the 2 that I like most.
