Nicky Henderson has expressed his reservations about allowing Simonsig to make his reappearance in the the William Hill King George VI Chase.
Not sighted in public since winning the 2013 Arkle, Simonsig is being nursed back to health by Henderson but the trainer does not want to ask him to do too much too soon. A further minor issue prevented him from completing any serious work this week, but a gallop in the coming days could decide his immediate future. "He didn't gallop with Sprinter (Sacre, on Friday), he was just lame for a couple of days last week," said Henderson. "He'll gallop this week and we'll see how that goes. "He's up against it for the King George. I can't believe, having been off a year, asking him to race over three miles in a King George would be what he wants. "Obviously there's the Desert Orchid over two miles, but if we are wanting him to go further this year, running him over two miles might just buzz him up. "I'm still wondering what his trip is but dropping him back to two miles may see him a bit keen after his time off." |

The horse will be collecting his pension before Hendo works out what to do with him.

He should either race him or retire him. He's fat to over protective of his horses. They are not pets.

He should run him in the chase at Ascot that Captain Chris won last year and then aim him at the Ryanair. They could look at stepping him up for the King George next season when (hopefully) they might have a better preparation for it. I'll be very surprised if he would win it this time round.

According to BBC weather only 3 days with rain showers between now and the race, also fairly mild and windy. Can't see the going getting any softer than it is just now.

KEMPTON clerk of the course Barney Clifford is delighted with the state of the ground as the build up to Boxing Day's William Hill King George VI Chase intensifies.
RELATED LINKS King George card Conditions have been quite testing for the past two runnings of the festive showpiece - soft last year and heavy in 2012 - and it was lost to snow and frost in 2010, but Clifford is confident that the ground will hold up despite rain forecast for next week. Clifford said on Tuesday: "The fresh ground has taken the weather extremely well and it is good to soft and soft on the bend adjacent to the reservoir. Not sure what forecast you are looking at, bbc only has some rain on Tuesday off next week, although I think your bet on conti may still come in it won't be a slog like he'd prefer

the more i go through these the harder it is to handicap the runners...i have conti slightly clear but the others as much of a muchness if reproducing there best form which in most cases seems quite likely...i am against conti but respect him very much just his price is not appealing...i have added dynaste to cue card(small) and our old friend al ferof who i hope the ulcer problem he has had has been sorted out, he ran a career best last time(can he back up? only al ferof knows) if he could back up has to be respected...this is dynaste's track and he won't mind the ground either, i have gone deep into him as just didn't quite figure his form out and had doubts but feel he will run a big race...champagne is a skinner as is menorah but from a handicapping point of view this is the one of the deepest king george's i can remember and a good renewal imo

On good/soft I am still a big fan of Al Ferof. His defeat of Somersby and Wishfull Thinking over 2.3 miles looks very good and if he gets the trip he will surely have too much speed for Silvi. Cue Card has not looked as good this year so for me it comes down to Al Ferof and Champagne Fever or Silvi if it comes up very testing.

al ferof stays 3m but is better over 2m. apparently silviniaco out classses him easily over the gallops, which is frightening when you consider the depth the nicholls yard has.

What do you mean "again"? This is the first time they've raced one another. I reckon Irving may give him a bit of a race personally, though probably get beat in the end. With regards to Ruby, I'll be amazed if he isn't at Kempton.

 at 28/1 he is overpriced currently. Looking at the market on here he is currently 30s to back take 5% off its less than 28s. And if you add up all the probable non runners in the race (horses with nothing wanting to back) they all add up to 9% making the win market on here exactly 100% of all the horses with money to back and therefore much more likely to turn up. If like me you prefer to build a book, instead of just picking one or two and hoping for the best, this is surely a bet Only worry, does it run and will jonjos form improve before then? |
