It is my opinion that this seasons winner will come from a horse not to have ever competed in it before, possibly a 2nd season chaser or even a 3rd!
By:
Are you talking about the King George or the Gold Cup.
At the minute Champagne Fever would be my GC horse with Silviniaco Conti the back-up plan if it's soft. I'm also an Al Ferof and would like to see him do well wherever he runs. The King George I'd probably side with Silviniaco Conti ahead of Champagne Fever as I think the soft ground would give him an edge. |
By:
Al Ferof was paying for last years, but then again the challow always pays for me. 6 from 8 recently.
last year was the first time i picked 2 losers in those two races mind ! |
By:
would have the KG between SC and CF
rest no where would have simonsig 25/1 on my tissue |
By:
Sorry IS i was on about the gold cup, i too also like CF for gold and have said in a previous thread i liken him to a 6 year old Kauto Star!!
KS was 6 when making the transition from 2 miles to 3 right lol |

By:
No, in a word. Not according to some folk on here and not the entirety of the point I was making before the race. Trying to give an insight into what the trainer was/is thinking.

your all forgetting and writing simonsig off when he comes back and wins 1st race easily watch the price tumble id av the 25,s of you anytime fashion fever
By:
Champagne Fever (4/1-6/1 KG),(8/1-12/1 CGC).
Only my view on this but this horse is priced up on the trainer's reputation rather than what he has achieved on the track. Only a point behind SC in crookes' betting for the KG and has nothing like the level of form,Cue Card aswell come to that. Sill should be a good race if they all show, looking forward to it. GL ALL |

In fact talk about Simonsig, when and where do we think he will be making his reappearance?
By:
think the target is the Peterborough Chase is n't it?
Now on Sun 7th Dec so will have just under three weeks prior to King George. |
By:
Simonsig is not entered for anything before the KG. I presume Hendo is confident the horse is at peak fresh and because he has won on the snaff on his reappearances how can anyone know for sure but if anyone can get them to peak first time out it is Henderson.Tthe horse needs to find 10lb (CF similar) improvement over this new trip. Only had 3 chases so likely that there is more to come.
It`s fascinating stuff. |
By:
just checked - Hendo's RP stable tour states that the Peterborough 'is a logical starting point' and that he thinks 'the King George is a very possible objective after the Peterborough'.
Simonsig won't have an entry in the Peterborough yet because it's not an early closing race. |
By:
How about Captain Chris? Is he Peterborough bound too?
By:
Hobbs said he only arrived back in yard during w/c 20th Oct after scan gave him all clear in mid-Sept after minor suspensory problem.
Not ruling out possibility of running in King George but might come too soon and more realistically he'd be ready to return in January possibly in the Listed chase at Kempton he won last season, then aim for the Ascot Chase in mid Feb. Interview was a month ago mind, so he might have given an update that I'm unaware of since then. |
By:
Makes sense know Rease, Simonsig needs to find 10lb to win the KG. It would be a much larger task to do it FTO. The Peterborough Chase it will be then. The season is about to heat up.

Thanks for the info Reese.

I think at 11/1 Dynaste is great e/w bet, think he will come on for the run at the weekend big time and if the going is Good/soft all the better
By:
Kempton has a month to dry out. Like a bog at the moment.
By:
looks nailed on to be testing ground for the king george - can anyone honestly see the ground drying out in december ??!!
By:
Yes, it has a history of doing so if their is a prolonged dry spell. Look at the history of the going.
By:
without googling it, I,ll answer quick in thinking the kg is generally run on decent going for the time of year but the last 3 or 4 have been run on testing ground
By:
Last 2 KG`s soft/Heavy
But let`s not forget Kauto Star never ran on anything worse than G/S at Kempton. Supposed to be a mild winter, but not sure how that effects rainfall. |
By:
any new from king about smad place taking part in the king george stays all day and i think he could possibly be a dark horse for the gold cup.. his record s not bad at all there. whether he goes better left or right handed im not so sure? like its been said in the king george you need a very strong stayer..
By:
simonsig out.
Silvinco conti not worth backing at those odds. I could probaby get 7.0 in running ont he day of the race. |
By:
I could just give the race a miss

By:
The forfeit stage tomorrow. There might be very few runners in this come Boxing day based on what we know so far. If Dynaste & Simonsig don't turn up too, then it could be just 6 or 7??
By:
I don't see why Dynaste would not turn up, all being well.
By:
Having seen how unlucky as an owner Rich Ricci was at the weekend with Zaidpour, Annie Power and Allez Collombieres I am sure he would suffer it all again if it meant CF winning this. Simonsig now out, Cue Card looking below his best...it could well happen. I don't fancy the horse from a jumping point of view but on breeding and talent it would not be a shock at all...Mullins has always compared him to Florida Pearl who he won this race with and it's about time he won one of the top staying chases.
By:
Have Conti in a accumulator, so will be cheering him no. Saver placed on Captain Chris at 25/1

am very surprised by the price of champagne fever in this 7-2 in a place...quite funny really, as is the racing post ratings view of the clonmel oil chase, where the speed figure of 142 is borderline joke imo as is the 164 rating given to the winner...they are saying alderwood who didn't run particularly well was his career best (gave 4lbs to the winner) but i just don't buy it myself, they also had realt mor running a career best and roi de mee right back to form in 4th...
i still have the horse with a whole lot to prove form wise over fences and he has now won his last 4 races when fresh off the lay off, that isn't my main concern however i just think he has a whole lot to find to be competitive in this race against proven 170+ horses...we will see and am happy he is making the book for us others with any concerns or am i just reading this wrong? after all he did win on the snaff... will the step up in trip work the oracle maybe but i still have doubts over that as well, which makes the price look even more anorexic |

You might be right, but obviously CF has won twice at Cheltenham, 2nd last year too, very consistent sort. A great return as you outlined, won easily enough.
Also I've lost count of the Irish horses who beat (supposedly) nothing at home (flat & jumps), yet are still good enough to beat the best over here. So personally I wouldn't want to be laying 4s or more, specially as there may be only 7 or 8 runners. If CF turns up I reckon he'll be clear 2nd Fav.....The 5's or so on here now could well be easy to lay off on Boxing Day. Anyhow I still hold the faith for Cue Card, more heart than head! |
By:
I wouldn't rule out Cue Card yet. If the ground comes up good to soft (don't know what the long term forecast is like, but it's certainly possible), I'd say he would have a really good chance, though he would have to jump better than lot. If it's soft or deeper, I think Conti will be very tough to beat.

Harry ->
Completely agree. Of course Champagne Fever has threatened to be very good for a long time (he was very good over hurdles of course) but if he wins on Boxing Day I will lose plenty. I think 7/2 is a true desperate price for a horse with a lot to prove. His Cheltenham and Punchestown defeats mark him out as needing to find plenty. The trip might help, but it might not - I'm far from convinced that he'll stay and far from convinced that he's good enough if he does. I thought his return win was no more than acceptable, and agree that the ratings given were laughable. Real Mor would have been three or four lengths off him if he hadn't taken the second-last fence with him, so that form is worth nothing in the context of the second-best Grade One chase for stayers. Also agree with ACStafford that Cue Card looks over-priced. A bit to prove, of course, but better ground and with the yard in much better nick (plus the chance that he might very well come on for another run having had an extended break after injury) could see him bounce back. We know, unlike Champagne Fever, that he has the ability over fences to win this race, and he is a much juicier price. |
