Module ran RPR 158 in the Haldon Gold Cup and looked like he could do much better. If you assume Marito is of a similar ability, because he would have finished somewhere near to Module in the Jewson, then he would be on a nice mark indeed on 147

FWIW Anyone watched the Racing Post AP Forum on this race ?
They make a good point regarding the Pipe Horses. They say that surely if Dynaste was going to run here he would be the gamble of the race. Pipey may be unnerved a little (not likely I know) by Grand Crus performance in the race last year and hence not so keen to run Dynaste of a relatively high mark e.g. look at Marito's mark for what would have been a performance to put him bang there or thereabouts in the Jewson, and hence I think he sees Dynaste as a 3m horse. In this instance he's surely going to say right no point lobbing near on top weight in a handicap, giving him a hard race and leaving the King George at the Cheltenham hill. Their view, and mine taking into consideration the markets, is that Dynaste won't run and will be saved for Haydock. This leaves Salut Flo as the main Pipe hope in the race. This scenario played out would also fit the patterns in the markets, albeit they are for (relatively speaking) buttons currently. The threat to Marito not running isn't the Morgiana hurdle but has to be the Clonmel Oil where Mikael D is also entered. Let's hope it's the latter, not the former, they run in that race and that Marito will, as Willie said, 'Go handicap chasing off a nice mark'. |

I'd be surprised to see Dynaste run but nothing to do with Grand Crus. I just think it's a stiff enough mark in a very tricky handicap. The Haydock race is more likely I would of thought.
Regardless of where he runs it's difficult on a purely handicapping terms how he is so much worse off with Marito? I've backed Marito and surely from a point of handicapping this is the race! Come on Willie you know it makes sense  Just look at the weights and tell me on the Jewson race alone how Marito receives weight from all his rivals here? I know it doesn't always work like this but Marito has been given EVERY chance by the handicapper! |

I was hoping dynaste would run at haydock before the king George but the ante post markets on here tell you he is bypassing haydock al ferof won this nicely last year off 159 and I think dynaste will do the same bookmakers hav'nt really given the yard a chance for a plunge as he has never been any bigger than single figures since entries were published

159 for Dynaste is not a bad hcp mark if you think he has any chance of winning the King George or Gold cup. When was the last time either of those races won by a horse rated 159 or less? To me the problem is the distance for Dynaste as i am convinced he is better over 3m and for that reason, I think they will go for the Betfair Chase. If Hidden Cyclone comes over he would be of interest to me. Using Woolcombe Folly as a yardstick I don't think he's badly weighted.

I agree shockster but he has only raced twice at this trip over fences besting fingal bay and then when getting beat in the Jewson it wouldn't bother me if he missed both races as he goes well fresh and I think king George is the main aim this side of the season

I'm not saying Dynaste is badly handicapped but at the weights on the Jewson race with Marito isn't well in. How many times have been beaten in handicaps and gone on to win bigger fish eg Long Run. We are looking at the PP not the future. Hidden Cyclone is a decent horse but does he jump well enough for this? The 5 days will be interesting lets hope we all get a run for our money and let the best horse win.

When I posted at 1.03 am I had just spent several hours, sad I know on a Saturday night
 , handicapping the whole field.Obviously this is just my assessment which could be wildly inaccurate but I had Radjhani Express clear top rated by 4lbs from Captain Conan who I have 2lb in front of Dynaste at the weights However, Marito could easily be much better in than any of them and if he runs will have to be backed |

AL Ferof won this off 159 last season. Captain Conan's novice chase form is not in the same parish as AF and doesn't warrant his rating of 159 imo. At least AF had mixed it in open company with horses like Somersby & Finians to prove his rating.

One point to consider here is the ground. Despite all the rain we have had, it won't be very slow and there is virtually no rain forecast after today until Saturday. If they like to get their toe in, they won't get their ground.

PADDY POWER GOLD CUP favourite Dynaste will be among the five-day entries for the Cheltenham Open meeting feature, trainer David Pipe revealed on Sunday - although he stopped short of saying the market leader was an intended runner.
His participation could hinge on whether he has to carry topweight, with Finian's Rainbow currently heading the list for Saturday's £160,000 handicap but also an uncertain runner. "It will be the Paddy Power or Betfair Chase for Dynaste, but we don't know which one yet," Pipe said. "We want to see what is left in at the five-day stage; it will make a bit of a difference if the top-weight [Finian's Rainbow] stays in." Dynaste, winner of the Mildmay Novices' Chase at Aintree on his last start, is 5-1 favourite with Paddy Power, with stablemate Ballynagour another prominent in the betting - at around 10-1 - for a contest Pipe landed with Great Endeavour two years ago to continue a strong family tradition in the race. The going at Cheltenham was good, good to soft in places on Sunday night but clerk of the course Simon Claisse said: "We are going to get some rain tomorrow and if that comes in the quantities forecast it will probably change it to good to soft. "However, from then onwards it looks pretty dry so I can't see the ground getting any softer - and we may end up going back to good, good to soft in places by Friday." |

Even if Mullins leaves his horses in at the 5 day stage it does not mean they are certain runners. Punters continually make this mistake. Same for Ballydoyle horses.

The presence of Nicky Henderson's former Champion Chase winner is good news for connections of ante-post favourite Dynaste as they weigh up whether to have a tilt at this valuable handicap or to wait for the Betfair Chase at Haydock.
The Pond House handler has no shortage of options for Saturday's contest with the long absent Salut Flo and Ballynagour - an impressive winner at Warwick on his UK bow - other possibilities. Henderson has scratched Captain Conan but could still be represented by his impressive Festival winner Rajdhani Express and last year's third Nadiya De La Vega, as well as the top-weight. Paul Nicholls lifted the Gold Cup 12 months ago and Woolcombe Folly could attempt to give the Ditcheat handler a repeat success. Katenko was talked of as a possible Cheltenham Gold Cup contender last season only for his campaign to be cut short but the seven year old could make his eagerly awaited reappearance for Venetia Williams. Leading fancies Johns Spirit and Champion Court retain their places in the 28 strong field with Walkon, Tap Night and Irish raiders, Texas Jack, Hidden Cyclone and Gift Of Dgab among other interesting possibles. |

Each to their own I know, but surely there must be something better handicapped than Champions Court. It's very exposed now but to be fair most of the field are also. Think it's a wait til the day race for me. If it rains I'll take Dynaste and Hidden Cyclone, so no point in Ante Post for me.
