I'd also fancy Marito if he runs, is it likely he makes the trip though?

My understanding is that he's an intended runner at this stage. I'm also reluctant to back irish horses ante post over here but that's the info I was given at the end of last week.

Don't shoot me if it turns out wrong though!!

I like him because as an ante post proposition he doesn't seem to be too ground dependent either. I was there when he handled terrible ground when 2nd behind Drive Time and was also effective on better ground in the Jewson. I think he'll see out the trip but I suppose how he copes with the Cheltenham hill is an unknown

Another Marito fan here. Felt we didnt quite see the best of him last year and keen to see how he progresses this season. Aftertiming I know, but was lucky enough to back Johns Spirit at 16/1 and I think he looks the perfect type for this race. Value gone now mind you.

Had a nibble on Double Ross at 160 on here - reminds me a bit of Little Josh. NTD targets meeting & should just about scrape in. Meets a fair few stats & still clear in my mind how easily he hacked up in the 2m5f Hcap hurdle at last yrs PP meeting. No idea whether he's going to run but stable only have 2 entered & Astracad has run too many times over fences for typical winner of this & can't remember last winner who'd run twice or more the same season before the race.

Also small bets on Katenko & Salut Flo.....no star in here this yr imo

Splinter,

Three of us used to travel down to the PP every year. Flights Glasgow-Bristol, hire a car, b and b. One year our b and b let us down at the last minute and we had to hire an expensive apartment.  Next door was NTD and the glasses in the apartment were hopeless for listening through the wall!

NTD in an apartment next door? ..............  When he lives no more than 15 minutes away from the track?

NTD was probably brassing it up .... probably ... er ... mmm

Anyway look, when are the weights out for this ??

More buttons today for Marito but I even spoke to a bloke who is connected and trust me, if you knew Willie you wouldn't even know if MARITO goes for this as he simply does not tell anyone.

Villaboy - I'd be keen to learn on clues as to your source as through my connections they have no way of knowing at all if the horse comes over.

So no1 in the yard would know if the horse was travelling over to england for a race in 10 days? Yeah....

Not heard anything about running plans, but Katenko has some very decent form, beating the likes of Fruity O'Rooney senseless, and has a clearcut verdict over Johns Spirit, course form and Venetia knows how to get one ready for this.

Not exactly a trends horse, but one that interests me nonetheless. Assuming the setback that ruled him out last season wasn't a big issue, this one could be a potential star performer.

If he ran Colbert Station would be of interest to me, backed him when he won the Paddy Power. He travelled and jumped supremely well and interesting that he has started his season so early if the National was his target? Surprised to not see him entered in the Hennesey? Probably won't run but I've had little tickle at 100's + just in case ;)

I think Mullins understated things in his stable tour when he said Marito was in with a chance of placing when coming down in the Jewson, although that's not unusual for WPM. I think he's been left on his Irish mark?

Marito will run off 147 which is the same as his mark in Ireland. I was expecting a mark in the low 150s.

Following the weights being published my highest rated trend horses are:

Captain Conan 100%
Dynaste 100%
Benefficient 100%
Rajdhani Express 100%
Unioniste 100%

Third Intention 95%
Texas Jack 94%

Some doubts about participation of a few of those (Dynaste / Benefficient / Texas Jack); not entirely convinced Captain Conan properly stays the trip, though being a year older might have seen him strengthen up a bit. From a betting perspective, Rajdhani Express is probably the safer option.

I can't really say where I heard it from. All I can say is that I asked the question and was told he was an intended runner "at that stage". I wouldn't want to mislead anyone into thinking it's a cast iron certainty but I'm still hopeful he'll run. Heard nothing yet to counter the info anyway.

As you rightly point out, trainers and owners change plans at the last minute all the time. I wanted to back him ew (in case he doesn't come up the hill) so needed to take the 16/1 price ante post. If he gets confirmed I think he'll be single figures and that rules out my ew bet.

Fingers crossed they send him. Come on Mullins/Walsh/Ricci you know it makes sense!!!

Thanks Villaboy, signs certainly encouraging but Irish runners notoriously reticent in competing in this race, fingers and everything crossed, he runs he wins IMO

Anyone any views on Nadiya de la Vega? Runs well fresh (Won fto 3 times) Ran third in the Mackeson (PP Gold cup) last season, 13lbs better off with Walkon for 12 lengths and maybe they've kept her fresh this time? Lovely weight of 10-3 if Finians rainbow stays in (same trainer). Also Third to Katenko beaten 15.25 lengths, now 15lb better off and that was on heavy ground.

Likes Cheltenham, acts on any... I'd prefer good to soft. If she gets in must have an eachway chance at these weights?

Can't have Rajdhani Express at the weights with John's Spirit. I have to agree Marito looks to have been given a chance ;)getting 12lbs from Dynaste.

I couldn't have considered Captain Conan because I had deeply engrained in my mind that we've seen the evidence that he doesn't stay over 20f on a stiff track, if I could get over that somehow I'd be all over him as he's real quality isn't he, anyway by all accounts he has done particularly well over the summer and strengthened up and I'm wondering if that's going to make the difference for him, after all at least we have seen him win over 20f all be it at liverpool, I think that I'm going to gamble on the summer he's had making the difference for him, he's better than 159.
By:
sc1883
When: 08 Nov 13 07:25
The problem with this race duffy is Captain Conan may well be better than a 159 horse but he's mid 160's at best meaning he's possibly at best half a stone well in, theres going to be a couple of horses lurking around that will be a stone plus well in, its just a case of sifting them out! I like Captain Conan but the worry for me is the hill, he went from looking like having a chance of winning the Jewson to not being able to hold 3rd place in a matter of strides. He also struggled up the Sandown hill previously so it maybe he's better on flatter tracks.
By:

Agree,to me he struggles at this distance, that's the evidence we have so far anyway.

Add spanner in the works, MARITO is entered for the Clonmel Oil on the 14th. I think backers will be ok though and the reason is they have Mikael D'Haugunet entered for this as well. Suspect the 'plunge' is valid but we have to bear in mind these are buttons of volumes absolute buttons ... Personally responsible for a lot of it too (!).
By:

When: 08 Nov 13 10:12
I noticed Maritos entry on the 14th, we can only hope! I have a feeling he will go for the Paddy Power as when you look at his Cheltenham run in March he is so well handicapped on that! Where he would have finished is open to debate and personally wouldn't like to say because the hill finds a lot of horses out. He was on level weights that day yet he receives weight from all his rivals here? He looks to have been given a real chance by the handicapper here, in fact for once the Irish can't complain. I thought I read somewhere that W Mullins and R Walsh were to target more English races this season? This would be a great starting point ;)
