BENEFFICIENT
Track Benefficient View form
7-y-o; chestnut gelding
Breeding: Beneficial (UK) - Supreme Breda (IRE)
Trained by A J Martin
Form: 4
Three-time Grade 1 winner, all at fancy odds, and won last season’s Jewson Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

“We are happy with him. He had a run in Listowel and that should leave him right to start off the season. He has schooled plenty and the plan is to take him to Limerick for a second season novices and take it from there. Hopefully we have a lot to look forward to. We’ll find our way and we have a few options then with the second-season novices’ race at Down Royal or the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby. One or other there will tell us a lot more. He won over 2m5f at Cheltenham and stayed on all the way to the death. We are taking it a step at a time and see how he progresses.”

yes I hope he does not run at Cheltenham, just wanted to be able to eliminate him. Not much sign that he is Paddy Power bound

that would leave my revised short list as:

2/11151- CAPTAIN CONAN (FR) 6 Triermore Stud   Nicky Henderson

0/11121- DYNASTE (FR)  7 John White    David Pipe

2F1011- RAJDHANI EXPRESS 6 Robert Waley-Cohen   Nicky Henderson

33262-1 THIRD INTENTION (IRE) 6 Robert and Sarah Tizzard  Colin Tizzard

I had a look at the weather forecast for the next two weeks for Cheltenham and from the start of next week up to paddy power day there is little rainfall plenty of autumnal sunshine and getting colder conditions could be ideal for third intention

Early days yet, but looks like my highest rated trends horses are likely to be:

Dynaste
Rajdhani Express
Benefficient
Captain Conan

Then, next best:

Third Intention
Unioniste

judo & JOCI - I am a respecter of both you opinions historically so I am interested why you both think DYNASTE and CAPT CONAN could win this after their Jewson runs in March. Looked to me like Dynaste didnt get up the hill at finish at all and Capt Conan didnt get the 2m4f round Cheltenham. I think the PP is a half a furlong longer so my natural assumption would be to stay away from these two. Educate me.

we are profiling what the typical winner will look like, not trying to guess what the form means, so for me the ones I am looking at have won at the track, are second season chasers of a certain age, lightly raced etc

Appreciate the come back. I guess only fair I put my early four up for consideration :

Unioniste
Nadiya de la Vega
Rajdhani Express
Salut Flo

as it happens, I think Dynaste was both undercooked and overly fresh in the Jewson, having not raced since Boxing Day. It's something that you see fairly often especially with novices at the Festival. Steps To Freedom and Cue Card were both not given prep runs after the New Year and both suffered for it in the Supreme Novices. Dynaste showed the benefit of his run at Cheltenham when hacking up at Aintree. He may need the run again and I certainly don't see him as my main bet at the price, probably just have him in a small green as a saver if he runs

Funnily enough, I will probably make Radjhani Express my main bet as I prefer horses making their reappearance in the Paddy Power rather than their second start. Third Intention has to reverse form with both Dynaste and Captain Conan and has had a run which I count as a (slight) negative

Still early days though

Benefficient - Declared for Charlie Hall.  I suppose they are seeing if he stays 3m against Long Run.  Was collared at Newbury over 3m when looking the winner.  Strange prep for PP though?
By:

can't believe they will run in both the Charlie Hall and the PP

Charlie Hall and then if he stays the KG,for Benefficient imo.
Looked like he will stay further in the Jewson I thought.

Does look like he will stay but it would had been nice to see how far he could go at 2m4f/2m5f
By:

When: 01 Nov 13 13:44
they just think he is a Conditions chase horse not a handicapper it seems and why not he has won more than one Grade 1

When: 01 Nov 13 13:54
Absolutely Judo, and hes a horse that i'm quiet impressed with. He should be in the Ryanair or Gold Cup at the festival I would think.
Big price on here for the Gold Cup...if he stays!!
By:

When: 01 Nov 13 14:11
likely scenario, gets beat in the KG ends up in the Ryan Air and does not win that (Irish abysmal record), goes to Aintree in the Bowl and on to Punchestown where he might find a race he can win
By:
buddeliea
When: 01 Nov 13 18:10
well of course its tough to win at the festival, but I can see him being a threat, should improve from last season I would think.Really like the way he finished the Jewson and quiet possible he could be underestimated.
By:
judorick
When: 01 Nov 13 19:00
more likely to be over bet by the Irish and go off too short I should think

Anyone know if this is Captain Conans target?
By:
buddeliea
When: 02 Nov 13 08:51
He was allowed to be available at 20's on Jewson day JudoHappymaybe they underestimate him as well.

Captain Conan on the other hand seems to be over estimated, and imo doubtful stayer after seeing him last season.

When: 02 Nov 13 13:04
some people napped it that day Cool

I cant see a stroll round 3 miles suiting him as much as a fast run 2m4f race where his high cruising speed is a big asset.

MARITO.

Anyone know IF he's coming over ?

Mullins stable tour 'he'll go handicap chasing' and said he's on a nice mark.

Very very interesting if he does, actually I've already had a few quid on him ....

Ruby, Ricci and Willie.

Guess we shall have to wait for the big man to return from Melbourne where I understand it they feel Simenon is nailed on to win.

MARITO though, you watch him TANK through that race in March, Ruby WAS going to win that I have no doubt until he slid all over the place. Very unlucky mistake. Not the best jumper I've ever seen but room for improvement. If they don't run him here then he will win his next chase wherever of that there is no doubt.

Just wondering if Rich Ricci would like to have a crack at this. First time for a long time Ruby's not been on a Nicholls horse on the day of course. Problem is I remember backing Quel Esprit to come over one year and he was a total no show. Yes, I see nothing on the Pink side which is disconcerting to a degree but the market is shallow all around.

Views ?

30 mins until Tap Night runs in the race Exotic Dancer lost in the same colours before hosing up in the Paddy Power days later.

Though there is a week longer between the two races this year.

Exotic Dancer was not in the JP McManus colours, Robert Ogden owned him
By:

When: 03 Nov 13 14:50
fair point, anyway TN had a lovely run around Carlisle whilst his owner is topping up his tan in LA, no damage to handicap mark so would imagine they'll go for PP, whether he's good enough is a different matter of course.
By:

When: 03 Nov 13 14:58
highest grade chase win by Tap Night in a class 4 which is low for a potential PP winner

surely JP will have better candidates?

for the record the other JP McManus entries are Nadiya de la Vega, Kid Cassidy, Colbert Station and Colour Squadron.

I'd guess Colour Squadron would be the most interesting of those at face value though he's yet to win a chase of any description.

Interesting that they've put Kid Cassidy in given that all his runs under rules have been over either 2 miles or 2 miles and half a furlong (apart from debut bumper win over 12.5f).

Perhaps he's been to an equine psychologist in the summer.
By:

When: 03 Nov 13 15:41
don't fancy any of them
By:
ReaseHeath
When: 03 Nov 13 16:02
actually I'm quite intrigued by Kid Cassidy now, a cursory look at his pedigree suggests he might well improve for the step up in trip and he and Alderwood pulled well clear of the rest in the Grand Annual...

Won't be getting involved at all until weights and 5 day entries are out though.
