Important day today,  entry stage / forfeit day for all the races on Arc Day , plus the trial races at longchamp next month.

Keep a close eye today , even though i don't think it will mean anything , lol, bound to get some bandit trainer make a supplementary at the end of next month.

For the life of me ive gone through all the form , and visual clues, and its left me scratching my head so todays entry stage should help.

One thing i will say is that i like Delzangles "Pacific Run",  looks like a Japan horse to me, it also looks like it could  get soft ground so not sure if they will go for Arc, its a strong possibility.

At Ritto Training Center on the 21st, Kizuna, working in tandem with a stablemate, was given a 4-furlong workout on the hill under veteran rider Yutaka Take. He clocked 50.5 seconds, with a 12.3-second wrap that put him over the finish line 2 lengths in front.

It was the first time since the Derby some 87 days earlier, that Take had ridden the son of Deep Impact. "I think Kizuna himself has far surpassed his personal best," said Take. "It was excellent work." Sasaki too was pleased and indicated that this was to be Kizuna'slast piece of fast work in Japan before departing for France. "He's in good enough shape already. We'll give him two fast workouts once we're over there."

Tactical speed and finishing speed, I'm certainly on.

Yet again thanks BJG.
I remember backing ALL ALONG for the arc and had read that LESTER had turned her down,
I believe that LESTER was expecting the going to be soft or worse, but as I said at the time,
LESTER is a great jockey, but a terrible weather forecaster!!!!!!

Try predicting the weather for a test match. Lester is not alone.

It was a true story which I used to illustrate that the going is tantamount to picking a horse to cope with the probable going,
in fact my long range forecast would need a similar type of going to the going in 1983, but that is after my original fancy
has been injured and will not run.

Jeez, you are showing your age there Bazzar, i was only 1 year old when ALL ALONG won.. lol.

I've spent all day looking at the arc day entries, and the trials , and as a first submission I can honestly say that if these European Elite Racing owners  are trying to wreck everyone's heads this year then they are succeeding at this stage.

I would not be having a main selection at this point because to be bluntly honest i have no idea with regards to where the value is and im deeply suspicious of the market and entry list - so i will just need to wait until a few days before the trials and the irish and england leger-  if i cannot come to a reasoned conclusion, with confidence,  after these races then i will not be making a selection for the Arc this year.

The more i look at the race the more I get a feeling that there will be a significant supplementary by a big yard between the leger races and arc day. Godolphin have so many unexposed 3&4 year olds who have been winning group 3s and 2s that i would not be surprises at all if they were to supplement closer to the race. I could be way off here but i see the market changing drastically within the next 2 weeks.

If someone was to put a gun to pick some horses then it would have to be orfevre and Meleagros. I only mention meleagros because i think the race could suit if the weather comes- again though the price is massive so had an expendable interest.

In my studying today , ive begun to contemplate that there is a fair chance that a few euro and british trainers could be planning to visit Hong Kong or Japan with a view to lining up a race then attempting to sell their horses out there.

There are very big bonuses that have been set up by the JRA and i'll be surprised if some of these french and british trainers have not planned to line up a pop at one of their 4 graded races within the last quarter of the year.

Again, it may pay not to go crazy about the Arc this year, as im of the opinion that the better opportunities lie within the other races on arc day racecard- and with my opinion that its a japanese visit planned for many of these horses lining up on a few of the races on arc day.

To finish, thought id just mention a certain japanese sprinter that is coming over with orfevre called " Blarney Stone" cant seem to see any form at all, but seeing as the japanese have the worlds best sprinter at the moment i thought it would be interesting to find out why they have entered it in the foret if its not up to group class.

speak soon everyone, will check in with an update if i think ive come to some new conclusions within the next week

Blarney Stone is a miler apparently , and owned by Yoshida. i cannot fully confirm that  but its entered in the sprint on trials day, and also the 7f foret on arc day

Possible supplementaries on Some interestingly campaigned horses, ive mainly looked at these horses with the assumption of soft, very soft , or heavy ground wherever they run.

2 Runners that ran in the Voltiger recently against telescope.

Both Entered in the Doncaster Leger

Willie The Whipper : owner-Qatar Racing Limited-Trainer most successful Group 1 Trainer Ann Duffield Confused
Secret Number: Godolphin & Saeed bin Suroor

Ive backed both of these for the Leger approx a month ago-so have to mention them in case they get a surprise supplementary instead of turning up in the leger.

This could possibly happen in the same way Gosden entered Great Heavens in the Arc in 2011, which eventually came 6th, and im of the opinion that these 2 horses are unexposed at group 1 level i.e  getting their suitable conditions of having a full stamina test on their favoured ground.

This Willie the Whipper looks more interesting a horse the more i look at him, surely needs a stamina sapping test to be seen in his best light.

The reason why i find the horse interesting is that if you watch the jockey club race again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBElMppYp7w ,you will see that the jockey has put him right out the back in last of 16+ runners and the horse has never had the chance to make up that level of ground on intello, especially as the race is not 1m4f, it was 10.5f.

So whatever race Qatar Limited line up with Willie then it should be great value in whatever race they take their chance in on soft ground, especially if they run closer to the pace in a true run mile & half.

What about Dunaden, a good 2nd to Novellist in France, who has gone on to great things obviously. A strongly run race and he'll be staying on at the end for a place,12.5 at the mo, very good value, and a nibble at 60's + for the win......the trial next week will be interesting, but if no pace he won't be helped, so the odds might get even better.....

Chicquita, as short as 16-1 for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, will not run again this season trainer Alain De Royer-Dupre's has said.

I'm quite keen on Flintshire for this race. The bookies are a bit out of order with the prices though.

if Flintshire wins tomorrow , why would they consider waiting until next year?

ground and flintshire still is filling out and gaining strength

Don't expect Flintshire to run tomorrow if the going is actually soft as per the Racing Post site. He will still have an excellent chance if the ground dries up in three weeks time. Then perhaps when he has strengthened up he will return and win it again next year?

Teddy Grimthorpe felt the soft ground did not suit Flintshire in the Prix Niel. “We want to run (in the Arc) but the ground comes into it.”

kizuna 5/1 with some firms....think I can pass on Yutake Take riding an Arc winner at that price. Learnt my lesson with him many years ago....good luck to backers. the guy is an ***hole. Very nice horse though....

The soft ground probably didn't help Flintshire, but it was also the first time he'd been in a race run at a decent overall pace. In the past he's been quickening up off crawls and there has to be a big chance he's not quite as good as he's looked. Not for me even if we get a good ground Arc.

Figgis - Were you impressed with Kizuna and Treve? (obviously got Orfevre in a few minutes as well)
By:

When: 15 Sep 13 15:11
Today tells us nothing about how good or bad Flintshire is as that ground is no use to him, as he showed earlier in the year. Looks a hot Arc though, and he's not a betting proposition now until the ground conditions for the big race become clearer.

But then arguably Kizuna is a firm ground horse given his breeding so he's going to be better if the Arc was run on good ground as well. My concern about Kizuna would be that he looks like a horse who has to be delivered right on the line as he idled badly once hitting the front today unless it was just lack of fitness which might have been the case given it was a trial.

Orfevre on the bit. Nice to see him looking well conditioned Love
