Treve could well be the best 3yo in training at the moment but we still don't have much collateral form between fillies and colts or 3yo and 4yo. I certainly wouldn't oppose Treve until she is beaten.

ORFEVRE'S Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe participation was put in doubt on Thursday after last year's runner-up, and the 6-1 favourite for this year's race, bled in the aftermath of a routine piece of work. The five-year-old will miss his intended clash with fellow Japanese superstar Gentildonna, who is under the same ownership, in the Group 1 Takarazuka Kinen at Hanshin a week on Sunday. "This morning Orfevre worked ahead of the Takarazuka Kinen but afterwards was short of breath and also coughed," said his trainer Yasutoshi Ikee. "The vet diagnosed Exercise-Induced Pulmonary Haemorrhage and so I have decided he will not run. I'm sorry for all the racing fans but it won't be possible to have him in top condition in ten days time." Orfevre heads the betting to go one better than last year, when he looked to have put the race to bed with a burst to the front three furlongs from home, but it was not to be with Solemia grinding him down close home. As for the immediate future, Ikee reported: "It isn't serious, he didn't bleed from the nose and the blood vessels should heal in two weeks. We'll look towards the autumn. In a few days he will go to the farm for a break. The future is not certain, including the trip to France. As to his next race I'll have to discuss that with the owners." |

There is no way you can back Orfervre if he keeps bleeding. Need to see him run first and come through it ok, imo.

slightly disagree sint is it not a very high % of horses that this happens to and is really off little concern.It was a really small bleed.

Yes back in training now but id side with Sintonian tbh - would b a big worry of it happenin again for me

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that a very large % of race horses bleed at sometime - possibly 75% - but may be out somewhat on that. Not exactly reliable info I know but if more do than don't then its obviously happening all the time but we just don't here about it. Its why I guess that Lasix is used so widely in the USA. I'll try and look it up again.

Based on surveys of horses examined endoscopically following racing, around 40 to 70% of horses have been reported to have blood in the trachea following a single post-race examination. One of the more recent and larger studies found an overall prevalence of just under 60%.[9] The time at which the examination is carried out can determine whether or not blood is seen. The usual time for examination is 30–40 minutes following exercise. If examination is carried out too soon after exercise then blood may not have progressed from the dorso-caudal (top and back) of the lung into the trachea. If the examination is carried out too long after exercise then any blood may have moved up the trachea and been swallowed and therefore not be visible at the time of examination. In one study (Birks et al. 2002), when horses were endoscoped on at least three separate occasions following racing, all horses had blood in the trachea on at least one occasion.

No guarantee that Novellist can go on to win the Arc. Montjeu was an even easier winner of the KGQE but he couln't retain the form come October.

Intello returns to the highest level for a mouth-watering affair which features Dawn Approach, as well as Moonlight Cloud and Elusive Kate. Fabre feels his latest stable star may be more effective over a longer distance, but is happy to let him test his powers against the best milers in Europe, such is the faith he has in the three-year-old. "It is going to be a very interesting race, for sure, but we are looking forward to it," said the legendary trainer. "I am scared of the two older horses (Moonlight Cloud and Elusive Kate). "They are in good shape and coming in off very good runs. They both enjoy the straight tracks and they will be difficult to beat. "I think the two three-year-olds, Intello and Dawn Approach, have shown they are top class and the ratings are very close, I believe. "I think Intello has the class and ability to be a top-class miler, but he is probably more efficient at a mile and a quarter. "It is a challenge taking on the best milers, but a challenge we are happy to take. "There are one or two showers around, but the ground should be good, which should be fine for everyone." The French handler believes Intello could yet develop into a realistic challenger for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, a race run over half a mile further than the Marois. Fabre, who saddled seven previous Arc winners, said: "We have the Arc in mind, but we will see how he runs in the Marois and how he takes the race. "To run in try and win the Marois over a mile and the Arc over a mile and a half is an ambitious plan. It is either ambitious or stupid, we will see. "I think Intello is an exceptional horse. His confirmation, his pedigree and his attitude tell me is not the average horse." |

There are a few interesting runners taking their chances at Deauville within the next fortnight.
All the entries are on the france galop site. Some very surprising uk runners entered too God i love this time of year in racing, just when they start planning the runs of the serious horses not selected one as of yet for the Arc but it may be harder to follow up on my danedream and orfevre selections, im siding with a certain godolphin runner at the moment but not set in stone. |
