Got back from hols just in time to watch the Eclipse. Nathaniel must be a real contender for
this race now. That looked a great performance. Loving the Punch and Judy show too ![]() |

king george looking like a really good group 1 race for a change, if the top 3 stand their ground.

Anyone have an opinion on Deep Brilliante? Japan Derby winner

By:
Top performance from Nathaniel yest, if recovering in time, the KG is only 2 wks away, he will go there as one of the favs, likes Ascot, thats a plus.
Looks a cracker of a KG this year, if all line up. Would not fancy taking on Frankel at york with Nathaniel, unless it was very soft ground. On gd/f ground, he would be run over by The Mighty 1. |

Nathaniel making a big splash in the Eclipse yesterday has pushed the odds out of the front pair. Nath has two weeks to recover, which he could do being a 4yo, but Farhh made him work for that win and Gosden is talking about clashes with Frankel over 10f so im not sure they'd want to up him to 12f and then drop him in trip again in a short space of time. I reckon they might just wait for the Juddmonte, but they is just my guess/opnino.
In any case, I think it would be a surprise if Sea Moon was out of the places, so have taken the 4/1 on offer, eachway. GoodtoFirm or otherwise. |
By:
I've missed where Gosden has said about taking on Frankel.
I agree about the King George. I said above that he was the one if ran well and not too hard a race but as you said he did have a hard race. I also think they may wait and it would be great if they went to York. |

Sandown siteMore racing newsThe Newmarket handler continues to enjoy a sparkling period this summer and the son of Galileo was his third victory on another profitable afternoon. The winner was always prominent and showed fantastic determination when challenged by Farhh in the closing stages. Profiles J H M Gosden W Buick Nathaniel (IRE) He really stuck his head out under William Buick and the pair crossed the line half-a-length clear with the runner-up doing very little wrong in defeat. 2010 hero Twice Over finished in third place. Buick said: "I have to say that was a fantastic training performance from John Gosden. To get the horse here in the shape he was in, all credit to John. "He's got real quality and he showed today what a good horse he is. I have always had a lot of faith in this horse. "He showed his versatility today and all being well he'll go for the King George again." His trainer is wary though of the short time between the two races and raised an intriguing alternative as he said: "He's a super horse, but it has been very difficult to get him right as he has had a respiratory problem. It's two weeks to the King George and that's not great. "He's put in a massive effort here, so we will just have to have a good think about whether we run again (so soon). "It will be fun to take on Frankel once more, as there was only half a length between them in a maiden a long time ago. The Juddmonte (International) would be an option, as would the Champion Stakes at the end of the year." Nathaniel was winning a short time after his full-sister Great Heavens won the Lancashire Oaks at Haydock in the same colours, with Trade Commissioner also obliging at Sandown for the same connections. Gosden said: "It's been a great day for all the staff, especially the owners, three winners and they bred them all." Farhh's trainer Saeed bin Suroor said: "He travelled very well all the way but was beaten by a better horse today. There is no plan but we will keep to Group One races at the same distance." Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to Twice Over's owner Khalid Abdullah, said: "He had been freshened up and has run a blinder. We were very pleased." Roger Charlton's Cityscape was a creditable fourth in the Abdullah colours and Grimthorpe said: "He didn't quite stay after travelling very well through the race. "We could look at something like the Jacques le Marois, I imagine he wouldn't go for the Sussex if Frankel does." |

Well I hope they take up the Juddmonte option, get beaten and then go for the Arc, don't like the talk about the Champion - very obviously pocket talking there.

Interesting Timeform ratings for St Nicholas Abbey when split l/h and r/h at 4/5 yrs. L/H = 130/126/127/126/126, R/H = 114+/124/118/120/99 |

How much an advantage, or not, is the weight-for-age scale? Nath & SNA would be off levels this year.
I personally see it as a level playing field, which is how it is meant to be. |
By:
Sintonian.
Not sure what u mean about Nath/SNA on a level p/f. In last years KG, Nathaniel got the 3yo w-f-a (12Lbs) & won, this year he will be giving that to the 3yos (if any run). Normally a "Top" 3yo (like Camelot) in the KG, would be the one to beat getting w-f-a, if he were to line-up, sadly he is not. In other words, a top class 3yo in the KG, is very hard to beat, but i dont think there will be many (if any) in the KG this year. ![]() |

Last year Nath had the 3yo w-f-a. SNA obviously didn't.

sea moon... snaff!

By:
Brown Panther now runs. I guess they are looking at last years St Leger form with Sea Moon and thinking they have a chance. Not for me at all though.
By:
Brown Panther would have a fair bit to find as a 4yo, but he does go well at Ascot (some dont) & likes a bit of cut in the ground, ew chance if a few better ones dont turn up.
The ground will play a big part in the KG, Sea Moon, Nathaniel & a few others will want some cut to show there best form. I think SNA would want it faster. As with most races, the weather & going, will have a big say on the day (Sat/wk) Had only a small interest in the race A/Post so far on here, Sea Moon 10s & Imperial Monarch 22s (who looks like running this sat in France?) Wont play on the KG now, until the morning of the race, then we will have a clearer view of everything, hopefully. |
By:
I am really looking forward to this race, the ground looks certain to have a major bearing on the race.I would be very confident of St.Nicholas Abbey, having too many gears on good ground. However looking at the 10 day forecast, there is a 60% chance of rain every day from Wednesday to Saturday. It looks long odds on there will be some ease in the ground next Saturday,in which case I will be sitting firmly on the fence.
By:
couldnt have sna in a month of sundays going right handed tbh but ive been wrong before.
i expect sea moon to rout them! |
By:
I think the right-handed thing with SNA is slightly mis-leading. A couple of those runs were seasonal debuts/preps and we all know AOB has a habit of getting horses beat in lesser company only for them to winning thier next start.
By:
Ascot is a stiffish track and any ease in ground wont make it any easier for SNA or Nathaniel even though he likes the ground the bounce factor cant be ruled out.Sea Moon still the one for me,some of the overseas horses could be a threat,Reliable Man wont mind the ground,French raiders are often underestimated when they race in UK and often return at big prices
By:
Like Golden Lilac, or Giofra?
![]() Im not sure they are underestimated much tbh due to the coverage French racing is given. We can see their races and know the trainers/breeding a lot more these days imo. It is probably the German horses which are underestimated at the moment. |
By:
Giofra,Cirrus de Aigles last yr,yeah the German horses are doing well too, winner in York yesterday was a big price, strike rate must be pretty high as they had a winner in a bumper earlier in yr and a Monsun won at Royal Ascot forget the name
By:
yes the RH thing is a bit misleading but hes a short price and the ground is unlikely to be quick. i will be surprised if he wins this tbh!
By:
If it looks like coming up soft SNA could develop a phantom injury and not run (see SYT).
By:
Thought Dunaden was very unlucky in the Hardwicke (maybe he just lacked a bit of tactical speed as they turned for home?) so with the ground no problem for him he'll do me at the prices.

looks like they are planning to run Danedream as she has been taken out of the race in Berlin.
By:
Looks a great renewal imo. 14 Group 1 wins between the lot of them. Would be ironic if the only horse not to have won one before wins.
By:
probably as good a group 1 theres been in britain for years
By:
12/1 Danedream looks the value imo.
By:
12/1 value...its a bonkers price imo.
If she turns up in anywhere near the form she did in the Arc, then I would suggest she wins with Nathaniel the only potential danger but I have concerns him backing up so soon after the hard race he had in the Eclipse - still not convinced he'll run. OK a very bad run lto to factor in but the price more than compensates for that. Was going to leave the race alone but now she is confirmed as going, she's a very solid e/w bet for me |
By:
Looks like a cracker. Hope Nathaniel turns up - almost a shame he won the Eclipse as that makes running in this race less imperative. Think he will run - there's nothing after this for him until the autumn and no guarantee he'll still be in form then.

By:
COME ON SEA MOON!
By:
I have to agree about Danedream being the value, the ground, trip and possible true run race will suit her more than the tactical affair at Saint Cloud. I also think that she isn't that fond of Saint Cloud because she ran a stinker at the track last year as well! The only thing that puts me off her is the poor record fillies and mares have in the race, the last winner being Time Charter in 1983.
12-1 does look big for an impressive Arc winner and worth an EW punt even with the bad female record. |
By:
Danedream is only a small filly for whom wfa was a big plus as a 3 y/o. She's set to carry 9-4 here
which will be the most she's ever carried and is a significant factor for a small filly like Danedream, where every pound will count. Stiff 1 1/2m on likely softish ground with 9-4 on her back will make life very difficult for her imo. |
By:
They are fair points you've made there tinkler and I think I'm going to have another look. The negatives are starting to outweigh the positives!!!
Sea Moon stands out trends wise but not my kind of price, it's a tough call with so many talented horses running. I know I will end up backing the not so Reliable Man, follow this horse over a cliff but the 20-1 looks about right. |
