Regarding So You Think, anyone get the feeling that might fancy a crack at Frankel in the QEII? Arguably, a win there would do more for him than lifting the Arc imo.

Headmaster...Magnier just said he could run in the mile race at Ascot or the 10f race. So he's obviously thinking about it.
Did not realise till after but The Irish Champion was a BreedersCup Win and You're In race. Now gets an automatic free entry for the Turf. Could prove to be the easy way out for connections. |

Hope so - base red for me in the Arc, ELG, so I'm very keen for him not to turn up! Travels like thunder and I wouldn't see a problem over 8f...may even be his best trip? Not sure a BC Turf win would do much for the horse, what do you think? Classic a different kettle of fish, though....

I would back him for the Classic. Travels very well through a race, easy to position too so that will help him get an nice position early and stay out of the kickback. Stays really well over 10f which is a problem for quite a few of the horses right now in the classic dirt division. Thats if he went for that race. doubt he will now. Doubt they'll take that big a risk with him now. I suspect the temptation of a 3rd Cox Plate will be too much for them and thats where he'll go.

Oh really? I got the vibe that Aus was off the menu. Have been backing Cape Blanco for the Cox Plate, reckon he's their rep there. All fun and games, eh?

Not doing so good this year, POUR MOI and BARAAN, doubled DREAM AHEAD with POUR MOI, but this is part of ante-post betting, the only complaint I have is the very unfair rule which says ALL IN ENTER OR NOT!!!

SNOW FAIRY is set for just one more run in Europe this season after producing the performance of her life to chase home So You Think in Saturday's Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes.
Owned by Cristina Patino, Snow Fairy, a quadruple Group 1 winner, confirmed herself to be a force at four when following her second to Midday in the Markel Nassau Stakes with an excellent effort behind Ballydoyle's dual-hemispheresuperstar. Speaking on Sunday, trainer Ed Dunlop said: "It was a great run and I'm as chuffed as one can be without winning. It was suggested that So You Think was idling but we gave him a scare and beat Famous Name, who is an extremely solid performer, by six lengths." Snow Fairy landed Group 1s in Japan and Hong Kong last year and will bid for more glory there this year. "A very important part of her programme is going back to Japan and Hong Kong and prior to that there is room for just one more race," Dunlop added. "The three options are the Champion Stakes, the Opera and the Arc and I am very tempted to run in the Arc." Coral offer 20-1 about Snow Fairy for the Arc. The Aidan o'Brien-trained So You Think, vying for Arc favouritism in some lists, has yet to have his end-of-season plans finalised, but was reported to be well on Sunday morning. I was given IMMORTAL VERSE ante post for ROYAL ASCOT 16/1>8/1 and the same source gave me MEANDRE ante post 14/1. This is a strong bet but I would lay off if it goes below 7/1 giving a free 7/1 bet

Why lay off the bet if you are that confident?? You are just selling away good value obtained.

I always think its a good idea to lay off at half the odds obtained if possible. Each to their own. If it doesn't go 7/1 on betfair to lay I will leave the bet

If you are backing horses at a massive price, say 40/1+ then I can understand it as the strike rate will be really low. At less than 20/1 I just couldn't do it tbh, I'm sure it would cost me money in the long run.

So You Think is easy to back on BF and also Lads have pushed him out slightly to 7/1. Has Derrick Smith said something at Longchamp today about him being a less than likely runner?

I dont think they ever intended on runnin ghim and have been saying so all season. He just does not look like an Arc contender, at all.

Personally I think Treasure Beach is worth a shot and I could easily see him making the frame. I have not heard any plans for him though, but I have a hunch they are saving him for some international races, maybe Japan then Hong Kong? |

Yes that was the last line I read/heard. They have already sent him to the States so it seems he is destined for travelling.

I noticed this morning that Laddies were joing biggest about SYT in the Arc.
Anyway, it's 11th September and it looks to me as if Coolmore are still to decide on running plans for most their horses' end-of-season races. You rarely, if ever, win Arc and Classics as an afterthought. So I can only presume the retirement of Pour Moi has thrown plans into some kind of disarray and horses that weren't on the Arc route are now under consideration for it. My own opinion - well from the moment I heard Coolmore had brought SYT to Ballydoyle, I presumed Arc or BC Classic. Can't believe for a second they bought him to run in the English Champion Stakes - a race APOB has only run an older horse in ONCE (a 33/1 no-hoper in 2004). If the QEII is a target, then surely there would be a noticeable difference in how the horse is being trained, would there not? I don't know anymore - I'm convinced the Arc is the race for SYT. But I'm worried by all this speculation about a Champions Day bid, as well as the Magic Sign going biggest price for the Arc. |

As for Secreteriat Stakes winner Treasure Beach, well I had two races in mind. English Champion Stakes is usually a race which the best middle-distance Ballydoyle 3yo goes or the Canadian International the same day as the English Champion Stakes.

Would they have not bought him for races like those he has already won or run in this season .. Prince of Wales, Eclipse etc.
The Arc is full of hard luck stories every year, it is bedlam on the bends, big carnage, they know this full well with the likes of Fame & Glory last year. Would they risk such a specimen whom they paid £40m or whatever it was in a race like the Arc ?? |

I felt that those races were being used as a learning curve / stepping stone to a big end-of-season target. Obviously they want his Group One count as high as possible but the idea behind him not being fully at his best for the POW was surely so that there would be more improvement to come as the season progessed. I'm also of the opinion that they could have had SYT better for his two Group One wins in Ireland.
You could be right Sint - maybe it was never a target and maybe they are reluctant to go for it for the reasons outlined (but the retirement of Pour Moi has possibly forced a re-think?). |

The irish champion is a very good prep race for the Arc, AOB Knows this.The race is competitive this year but there are no superstars in it.
As long as it's not soft I think they intend to run, if it looks like coming up soft they will just say we've been aiming him at one of the Ascot races. There is no way they will run in the QE2 ,they just talk about it to try and make out that he's got enough speed to run in it to enhance his stud value. If it's soft at Ascot I don't know if they will run in the Champion or not. They've probably got other options as well. |

ya'd have to doubt if SYT is going to run,ground today looked on the soft side to me,cant see it change a whole lot between now and then unless the weather picks up,would certainly suit Reliable Man and Nathaniel.A little disappointed by Meandre,not sure if ground or pace were to blame,has a bit to do.Sarafina looked impressive,Galikova not bad either

As far SYT is concerned, I doubt Ballydoyle will worry about that until a day before the race at the earliest!
If the Arc is the plan, then it is the plan. Why try and second-guess the weather three weeks in advance and base your plans on a long-term forecast? |
