Any news on Atasari after the NG ?
|
|
By:
It's hard to know what to make of Atasari's performance in the Nell Gwyn. She was well fancied and well backed, she raced prominently but simply faded right out in the final furlong (eased when all chance had gone). On the face of it, this was a very disappointing effort, but Bolger's horses aren't really firing yet and she should improve a lot for the run. No news on future plans for this filly, but it wouldn't surprise me if she were to go for the Newmarket Guineas. She was only just touched off by Music Show in the Rockfel and has already won over a mile, so the trip is not an issue.

Any word on Beyond Desire? It's my only other AP bet in this. As most will know by now I really fancy Music Show, hence I've backed Beyond Desire just on the off chance that Music Show didn't run below par at Ayr for whatever reason. Given what she has done since you would have to suspect that she did run below her true form. I am far too excited about May 2nd now! Just hope she gets there fit and well.

Beyond Desire will not be running in the Guineas, according to trainer Michael Jarvis (on ATR this week). She will be kept to sprint races this season.

Oh well. Thanks for that James, long hours this week so not much time for any reading up for me.
It keeps going through my mind as to what I should do to try and make sure I don't come out of the race a loser in the position I am now in, I really don't wanna lay off if I'm honest. Certainly not now anyway. I keep looking for reasons to doubt myself on why Music Show should win and I just can't find anything to make me change my mind. I was looking through the times on the day of the Rockfell the other day and noticed that she won the Rockfell at a time only 0.3 seconds slower than the time that Beethoven won the Dewhurst with on the same day. There were a lot of well regarded horses in the Dewhurst including Steinbeck and some horses still fairly high up in the betting for the 2000 Guineas. I still think she is being underrated because of the trainer. If she was with a fashionable yard she would be shorter still than you can get right now. I appreciate why people would be concerned by Channon's record in classics but the form is in the book. Even watching back the Nell Gwynn I think her performance in that has been under valued as well in terms of what Fallon had to do to get her in a position to win the race. It wasn't a spurt of pace to get around it was a sustained surge over about 2 and a half furlongs. I think it was more impressive than some have given it credit. The favourite looks a class filly but I;d be more concerned about her not staying that Music Show. I think perhaps Tabassum as you have highlighted James could potentially be the main danger. It's possible the Rockfell was one race too many for her last year having only raced 15 days previously, She only has a length to find on the Rockfell form. I'm gonna wait until much closer to the day but right now I'm thinking about a saver on Tabassum and a place bet on Music Show that just covers my win steak on her as well. |
|
By:
cruise d, I'm with you completely! I said in the Nell Gwyn thread (before the race!) that Music Show was my main play for the guineas but I'd also backed Atasari and Tabassum because I was counting on the Rockfel form.
Now, after the race, Music Show has better 3yo and 7f form than Special Duty yet is still double the price. I'm not saying Special Duty can't win, just that I'm surprised at the difference in their odds at this stage. |
|
By:
Plume is reportedly doubtful for the Guineas. Lady Of The Desert will go for the French Guineas rather than Newmarket (unless something happens to Music Show).
Special Duty's form was boosted to some extent by the Fred Darling result - the four fillies that ran in the Cheveley Park filled the first four places and pulled well clear of the others. Special Duty was matched (to small amounts) at 10 on here a short while ago, but I can't understand why: she came out of the Prix Imprudence really well and, as far as I know, is bang on course for the Guineas (famous last words). Puff will take her chance in the Guineas and I suspect she will be joined there by Habaayib, the Fred Darling runner-up. Rumoush's participation is less likely now, I should have thought, with Habaayib a likely second string for Sheikh Hamdan. |

Pollenator news anyone?
|
|
By:
Why cant you understand why??(apart from being biased!!)
SHE WONT STAY imo. |
|
By:
I am biased too but I have to say that Arcano didn't exactly pay a huge compliment to Special Duty today. I know it needed a run but they will all need pipe openers at this stage if they are serious contenders for the Guineas in a few weeks. There is no way they will be fully tuned up but at the same time it's not that far away so they can't be left too far away if they are to be winning the Guineas. Special Duty looks a class horse but there are far too many doubts for me. It may not be that bold a prediction now but I think Music Show could well start favourite for the race on the day now.
It's all about opinions but I think the Rockfell and Nell Gwynn form will prove to be the best form guide for this years Guineas. I certainly think the Neww Gwynn looked a better trail for horses wanting to run over a mile than the Newbury race today did. I just hope it's Music Show that proves this right and not something else like Tabassum or Principal Role. I'm also gutted. I backed Dick Turpin pretty big for me last October and it let me down (probably a race to far in a short space of time back then) so I decided to leave it alone today. Oh well. |

While I can see where you are coming from you would have to say that the four horses you mention beat what look like an average four others in an 8 runner race. The other four were the four outsiders in the betting and so on the face of it they just ran to what they were expected to do. If Puff, Habaayib, Lady Of The Desert and Misheer had beaten some highly regarded types that had realistic chances of winning the Guineas then I would be happier in the form personally. On the face of it right now they didn't. I personally saw the Arcano run as a bigger negative to Special Duty's form than I saw the Fred Darling as a positive. I guess we could both be reading these races through our respective antepost tickets though! Naturally this could all be proved wong in the coming weeks/months ;). |

By:
i can't believe some punters analysis of the Greenham race with regards to Special Duty, everyone so far makes a link with Arcanos' run, but noone has mentioned the good run of Canford Cliffs, which in relation to Special Duty made, imo, the filly look special indeed, to beat it over 6 furs. must have been exceptional. cheers.
|
|
By:
I think it's cos Dick Turpin wasn't thought to have the class to be winning the guineas that people are discounting the form.
It's worth mentioning as I have before that Music Show won the Rockfell in a time just 0.3 seconds slower than the winner of the Dewhurst on the same day. A race that Dick Turpin finished nearly 5 lengths back in. So that tends to highlight how close the two are IMO, the difference being for me that Music Show looks more likely to stay than the fav. |
|
By:
what is the plans of connections of the 2nd in fred darling, staying on strongly imo
|
|
By:
Pretty clear to me that Canford Cliffs didnt run to form behind SD in France.
However neither of them will get 1m ,imo. Puff pulled harder than any other yesterday ,but stayed on best.If it wasnt for her pedigree, I'd say she is the best value at 25s..especially if ground is fast(see her action). For me she has improved past Lady otdesert and Misheer....and why not? She was the scopiest of the 1st 4 home in the Cheveley...Before you ask I was at Newmarket and Newbury. |

I have been taking a closer look at the Nell Gwyn form and believe that Music Show's performance has probably been overrated. Let me make it clear that I'm not out to knock Mick Channon's filly, who ran well on her comeback (especially for a filly that was expected to need the race, though to be honest I suspect that she was more forward than the trainer believed). My immediate reaction was to take the Racing Post Ratings for the race at face value (Music Show was given a rating of 114), but the form has a distinctly shaky look to it, as I hope to explain.
The first observation to make is that the fillies that finished out of the first six places all weakened and failed to get home. Jacqueline Quest (7th) led at halfway, was headed over a furlong out and weakened inside the final furlong: she appeared not to stay and/or needed the run. Atasari (8th) raced prominently, was ridden and hung right over a furlong out, weakened inside the final furlong and was eased: she clearly ran way below form and must have needed the race. Dyna Waltz (9th) chased the leaders, was ridden over 2f out but soon weakened: like Atasari, she ran well below form and must have needed the race (if she had been forward enough she should have been staying on at the finish). Queen's Grace (10th) raced prominently and dropped right away: she may have needed the race but shapes like a sprinter. Srda (11th) dropped right away and clearly failed to give her running. The necessary conclusion to draw from this observation is that the form must be judged on the performances of the first six home. Blue Maiden (2nd, beaten half a length) was officially rated 102 going into the race. She had looked a progressive filly last summer when finishing an excellent second to Long Lashes in the Gr.3 Sweet Solera Stakes, beaten just a length, clear of some useful fillies such as Sent From Heaven and Snow Fairy. But she ran some way below form on her final start behind Tabassum in the Gr.3 Oh So Sharp Stakes (beaten nearly 8 lengths), where she needed the run after an interrupted preparation (with a foot problem). Much has been made of the fact that Music Show had to come all the way round the field to get a clear run in the Nell Gwyn, but to my eyes Blue Maiden looked very unlucky: she didn't get a clear run, lost her place and was stone last over two furlongs out, then made headway over a furlong out (by which time Music Show had already taken the lead) and ran on well. Music Show (officially rated 110 for her Rockfel win) had 5lbs in hand of Blue Maiden on two-year-old ratings (allowing for Music Show's penalty) and their relative finishing positions suggest that they ran to within a pound of those official ratings. But that doesn't take into account the fact that Music Show looked in need of the run or the fact that Blue Maiden looked an unlucky loser on the day. It makes more sense to conclude that both fillies ran a little way below their best juvenile form. Principal Role (3rd), Safina (4th) and Hafawa (5th) were all running in a Group race for the first time and were therefore all likely to step up on their maiden and conditions race form. There is no doubt that Principal Role and Safina in particular look smart prospects, but it is also true to say that their Nell Gwyn performances were well in advance of anything they had achieved before, so they are not a terribly helpful guide to the value of the form. The same comment broadly applies to Hafawa (beaten 4½ lengths in fifth): she was officially rated 90 going into the Nell Gwyn (on the basis of her four-length win over Dawnbreak at Leicester last October in what was, to all intents and purposes, a three-runner race). It would be unwise to read too much into the running of Distinctive (6th). Last year she won the Gr.3 Firth of Clyde Stakes at Ayr over 6f in very good style, but the form of that race has tended to be disregarded because of the very pronounced draw bias. She was then beaten 10 lengths by Music Show in the Rockfel, where she raced too keenly and weakened inside the final furlong: she seemed not to get the 7f trip on that occasion, but it is quite likely that she was 'over the top' for the season. She seemed to stay the 7f trip in the Nell Gwyn but suffered traffic problems and should have finished a bit closer. She had a similar official rating to Blue Maiden going into the Nell Gwyn but may not have been quite so forward. Overall, the Nell Gwyn has a very messy look to it and the form should be treated with considerable caution. One cannot conclude, on the basis of the bare form alone, that Music Show has progressed from two to three. She does appear to have progressed physically and Mick Channon is sure that she will improve a lot for the run, so she must have a good chance in the Guineas. But I wouldn't get carried away with that Nell Gwyn performance. Blue Maiden looked an unlucky loser and there's not much to choose between a number of useful, but not outstanding fillies. Long Lashes, for example, has been more or less written off following two poor performances (in the Moyglare Stud Stakes on heavy ground and the Fillies' Mile which probably came too soon for her), but her victory in the Sweet Solera was a very good performance and if she can be brought back to that sort of form, with normal improvement from two to three, she would have a definite chance in the Guineas in an open-looking year. Special Duty still has the best form going into the Guineas - the only doubt about her is whether she will get the mile, but it would be foolish to conclude from her comeback performance in the Prix Imprudence that she is just a sprinter. She outstayed the 6f fillies in the Cheveley Park Stakes and it wasn't the 7f trip that got her beaten in the Imprudence. She's the one filliy that could still be well ahead of the others, but otherwise it's an exceptionally open-looking race. |
|
By:
james, it sounds to me like you're suffering a case of confirmation bias. You're looking for the evidence to fit in with what you already "know" - Special Duty is the best horse. It's something we all fall for from time to time. i admit I'm on Music Show so I'm looking for evidence the other way but the facts are that Music Show won and Special Duty was 3rd. They were both running prep races and will both come on for the run.

By:
I have analysed the Nell Gwyn as objectively as possible and I honestly don't think I'm leading myself to form conclusions that suit my antepost bets. I have looked at the race with a sceptical eye because that's the way I always approach analysis of form. The point I'm making is that the trials (the Imprudence, the Nell Gwyn, the Fred Darling and the Irish trials) have all been muddling affairs and it's very difficult to draw firm conclusions from any of them. Some fillies ran well (i.e. either won narrowly or were narrowly beaten), others ran way below expectations and simply needed a run. It's anyone's guess how the form of the trial races will pan out in the Guineas itself. My initial reaction to the Nell Gwyn was to get quite excited about Music Show's chance in the Guineas, but I have watched the race several more times and feel that the performance has been a little overrated. The way the race turned out, she did not need to improve on her juvenile form to win. She still has a good solid chance in the Guineas, but there are so many fillies within a few pounds of each other that she doesn't scream 'value' at around 6/1-7/1. Special Duty did not enhance her claims in the Imprudence, but she did enough (in being beaten a length on unsuitably soft ground after a far from ideal preparation) to maintain her position as favourite, based on last year's form.
|
|
By:
OK, fair enough but you did say the Nell gwyn form had a distinctly shaky look to it which I think was over-doing it and that you suspect Music Show was more forward than the trainer believed which was mere suppositon. I'm sure he knows her better than any of us. I could just as easily say that I suspect Special duty was more forward than her trainer believed so her run was even more disappointing. We should all be on the lookout for this kind of thinking is all I'm saying, cheers.
|
|
By:
Fair enough, but I wouldn't have expected Music Show to finish her race in the way she did if she had badly needed the race. She was probably fit enough to do herself justice, whereas some of the also-rans clearly were not. I do think the Nell Gwyn form is a bit shaky, for the reasons already given. Only six fillies appeared to give their running and I thought the runner-up was unlucky.

You can read races very differently I suppose James SP. I'm not sure Blue Maiden was that unlucky myself. I've watched the race quite a bit as well and I can see what you are saying in that Blue Maiden had to check and then start her run at about the 2f pole where as Music Show had already come out from the rail and started going around the field at about 2 and a half furlongs. Therefore she did steal a march on Blue Maiden. However Music Show was checked out as well, but earlier and had to at least 7 horse widths wide to get around the entire field to go on and win. Blue Maiden on the other hand did have to check a little later but then it got a sweet run through the field just 3 horses wide, Music Show covered more ground in the race than any other horse and as she came around the field she was a little green as well (just before and on the 2f pole you can see this on the tape of the race). Hughes produced the whip earlier to get Blue Maiden through the field and start to catch the winner, Fallon only went for the whip with about 100yds to go as it looked like there was still one to beat. Both horses were ridden right to the line and IMO Blue Maiden's run was just fading in the last few strides, the camera angle could be deceiving but to me it looked like either Music Show picked up a little as Blue Maiden came upsides or that Blue Maiden was just running out of steam. Please watch the race again with the above in mind and see what you think. I'd be interested to hear what you have to say, even though I suspect we'll still disagree on the race ;).
One last thing, to say "as it turned out she didn't need to improve on her juvenile form to win the Nell Gwynn" is a bit a sweeping statement at the moment IMO. We just don't know that at this stage, Blue Maiden could well have run half a stone or more better than she did as a 2 year old for all we know. Talking about official ratings of 2 year olds and then trying to tie that in with their form as 3 year old is a little shaky in itself. It could just be that the likes of Principal Role and Safina are better horses than the likes Atasari etc. At this stage there is no way we can know what run it's race and what didn't for sure. Lets face it on May 3rd we may still not be sure what the best horse was in the 1000 Guineas even after the race has happened. At the moment we are all just forming our opinions on each horses form but in my humble opinion of the four trials you mention Music Show looked to be the most impressive. Her run looked pretty relentless to me over quite a long portion of the race. Much like she did in the Rockfell she ran in the style of a horse that would improve with the step up to a mile. I don't think you could say that about much else that ran in the trials at this stage. I know I am on Music Show and you are on Special Duty and I think it's probably human nature that this would influence our own eyes. But I believe we are both trying to view the race as none biased as possible. I am because I am trying to give myself enough of a reason to either lay off or back something else as well at this point. I really am trying to find a decent route to green all around, but I'm struggling to find something at this stage. It's all quite exciting though. I'm sure we are both happy with antepost our tickets at this stage. I just hope at least one of us is smiling at the end of the race, preferably me ;)! |

Any news on whether Field Day is an intended runner or not?

I was impressed with Music Show.
The races @ Newmarket seemed to favour those up with the pace & she was dropped out the back on the rail & had to switch right round the field befor coming with a strong run on the outside just seemed to tie up last 1/2 furlong but can certainly be excused due to 1st race of season & previous manouevere taken. Similar style to the chevely park horse of Gosdens a few years ago but still got beat in the big one by a "non stayer" the french chevely park winner natagora. Maybe a similar scenario this year. |

1,000 Guineas route for Feilden winner Rumoush
BY DAVID LAWRENCE 1:33PM 19 APR 2010 RUMOUSH, impressivewinner of last Wednesday's Feilden Stakes at Newmarket, looks all set to tackle the StanJames.com 1,000 Guineas on May 2. Hamdan Al Maktoum's filly, trained by Marcus Tregoning, won last week's 1m1f Listed event by two and a half lengths and connections are keen to let her take her chance despite the drop back in trip. The owner's racing manager, Angus Gold, said on Monday: "Sheikh Hamdan would like Rumoush to have a crack at the Guineas and, all being well, that appears to be the plan. "There's a slight doubt about her staying the full Oaks distance and, after her performance at Newmarket last week, she deserves to take her chance." Rumoush is 20-1 with the sponsor for the Newmarket fillies' Classic. |

Safina and Electric Feel to swerve 1,000 Guineas
BY DAVID LAWRENCE 4:23PM 19 APR 2010 NEITHER Safina, an unlucky fourth in last Wednesday's Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket, nor the Marco Botti-trained Electric Feel will run in the 1,000 Guineas on May 2. The Cheveley Park Stud-owned Safina was a 22-1 chance for the Guineas with sponsor Stan James, but is to be aimed at a 1m maiden before being trained with a crack at Royal Ascot's Coronation Stakes in mind. Chris Richardson, managing director at the stud, said on Monday: "She might have been third with a clearer run in the Nell Gwyn, but she was still very green and the plan will be to find her a maiden before taking in something a little more grand. "If all goes well and she wins next time out, then we could fit in another run at a higher grade before, hopefully, going to Royal Ascot." Sir MichaelStoute, Safina's trainer, has three other potential runners in the 1,000 Guineas, including 12-1 chance Tabassum. Electric Feel, successful in last year's Listed Radley Stakes at Newbury, is also being trained with Royal Ascot in mind, her trainer revealed on Monday. Botti had planned to start her off inlast Wednesday's Nell Gwyn Stakes, but the filly suffered a setback a week earlier and will not be heading for the 1,000 Guineas, for which she was 40-1 with the sponsor. Botti said: "She has not got a serious injury, but the Guineas will come too soon for her. "She slipped on a road and scraped her knees, so had to miss the Nell Gwyn and will need a little time before going back into fast work. "We're hoping to aim for Royal Ascot with a prep-race beforehand, but it's too early to say where that might be." |

The only intended runners I know of at this stage are:
Special Duty, Music Show, Seta, Tabassum, Misheer(?), Pollenator, Rumoush, Puff, Sent From Heaven, Pipette (but only if there is cut in the ground), Lady Darshaan, Devoted To You, and possibly one or more of the Godolphin entries (Long Lashes, Hibaayeb and Siyaadah). The following are reportedly doubtful: Safina, Lady Of The Desert, Termagant, Emulous, Field Day, Plume, Timepiece, You'll Be Mine, Famous, Decorative, Beyond Desire, Cabaret, Joanna. Charlie McBride seems to be favouring the Irish Guineas for Blue Maiden. It's also supposed to be the favoured target for Termagant and Emulous, though neither has been ruled out of the 1000 (as far as I know). Any news on Eolith? |
|
By:
James, what do you know about Sent From Heaven?
|
|
By:
Sent From Heaven had a racecourse gallop at the Craven meeting (on the same day as Tabassum) and the Hills team seemed to be quite happy with the way she went. Trainer Barry Hills said: "I'm pleased with her, but she was just going through the motions and you couldn't read too much into that - one is a mile filly, one is a mile-and-a-half filly [galloping companion Bebopalula]." I assume that she's going for the Guineas - the gallop was talked about in those terms by the hacks, and it was the same preparation Ghanaati was given last year. But, to be honest, Barry is being typically cagey and I can't find a quote confirming that the filly is definitely being aimed at the Guineas.

Great, thanks. I'm on her at colossal prices (190s down to 95s) and was just buoyed to hear you say she's an intended runner.

I got bits and pieces at 180, 130, 120, 100 and down. Widely available at 50/1 with the bookmakers. I don't think they rate her in the same league as Ghanaati, but you never know.

After reading all the posts on this thread i feel it time to voice an opinion.
For me the race itself isn't going to take a great deal of winning as there appears to me to be no great strength in depth. Lets start with special duty who seems to my eyes to be the best filly in this by quite a few pounds to be fair. Its obvious that there is stamina doubts about her, but on pedigree she should get at least 7 1/2 furlongs, her class may just see her through. For me her trial run on very soft ground, for which she was beaten wasn't a bad thing. She was beaten by a Group 1 filly for me in her own right in the shape of Joanna who is trained by a trainer who had had 30 plus winners already this season, whose horses are always very fit at this time of year (this horse will win the french guineas for me) and the second horse was fit after winning on her reappearance in a time that was quicker than the colts ran over the same course and distance the same day. The trainer had stated pre race that the filly had only worked on grass once before the trial and she would come on an awful lot for the run, so for me she can be forgiven getting a little tired in the ground and just blew up for me. It will be entirely different come guineas day on fast ground and in better condition, she may not have to stay cause she might be 2 lenghts clear come the furlong pole and her class may just see her through. I could be wrong and she still has to prove it, but if ability is anything to go by she is by far best filly in this. Lets move onto Music Show who i quite like as an individual. A Very tough, admirable filly she can go well but I am still struggling to work her form out. The problem I have here is the Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket where I am sure that the class filly in the race Tabassum ran below form. The second horse home was just an exposed listed horse at best and Tabassum ran with the choke out the whole way. I can't make head nor tale of it. We then moved on to the Nell Gwynn at Newmarket where she beat the progressive, but Group 3 class Blue Maiden with a maiden winner principle role in third, a yet to win a maiden horse in forth and two average horses in fifth and sixth how the racing post can rate this 114 form is beyond me, a joke they must be plucking these figures out of the sky. On pedigree she isn't certain to get the extra furlong her mother barely got 7 although her run style gives her every chance but no sweets here for me at 6/1 and will be disappointed if she was good enough. This leads me on to Tabassum who I actually like, she has the class judging her first 2 runs last season, where on her second start she looked really classy, demolishing a decent field of which the second horse home has since franked the form. I'd say the Rockfel came to soon for her and in which case she deserves extra credit. The problem I have with her is she is very small and lacks scope. I didn't see her work after racing at Newmarket so don't know how she has wintered she is still respected all the same. Rumoush I find hard to evaluate on the back of beating an 80 rated horse with a disappointing type in third who just won't find, a cecil horse whose horses i don't believe to be in great form, add to which it is trained by a trainer with whom for me is hopeless no offence. One worry here for Tabassum fans is connections seem keen to let this one take her chance make what you will. We move on to the Cumani filly with whom i have, the utmost respect. Seta who won her Maiden by 8 lenghts, the dogs were barking about this one and she duly done the business. Her next run was less convincing for me still looking backward and appearing to hit the ground very hard. She was reported by luca to still have a lot of growing to do. I think you can forgive her that run, i'd say she is still a lot better than the bare form. Really quick ground would worry me with her although for me she has a huge amount of potential and ability. In regards to the race itself (at Doncaster) i suppose reluctantly you could say it is working out ok but i would say similrarly to Tabassum race seta didn't run to form i doubt this is as good as she is. There are some nice types further down the betting but none look good enough to me but they may yet surprise but doubt it. So for me, the race revolves around how much Madame Criquette Head has left to work on, with Special Duty cause if she does come on a bundle for the run she surely will be to far clear for stamina to become an issue on better ground Tabassum Seta and Music Show may chase her home. |

Ignore Termagant at your peril. (Everybody is assuming she won't turn up.)
|
|
By:
Interesting thoughts harry callaghan. However it seems rather easy now all the trials have been run and the value in some runners has gone to write all that only to conclude at the end that the favourite will win and the next 3 in the betting will chase it home. Not that bold a suggestion really.
When you write off horses for being poor value you need to remember that this is an antepost thread and the people talking about these horses will have backed them at much much bigger prices. |
|
By:
A good, well-balanced summary by HC. Just about the only thing I would disagree on is the rating of Atasari, who improved dramatically in the autumn and is almost certainly much better than Listed class. Her performance in the Nell Gwyn has to be written off, as she clearly didn't give her running. The Rockfel form looks very solid (the first three pulled well clear of the others), even allowing for the likelihood that Tabassum may not have been at her best. I agree that the Nell Gwyn has been overrated by the Racing Post (Music Show's rating of 114 is several pounds too high in my opinion).
aft, do you have any information about running plans for Termagant? I know that she has not been ruled out of the 1000 Guineas, but there has been no news recently. The general assumption seems to be that she will miss the Guineas in favour of the Irish Guineas. |

I think the Nell Gwynn race is really hard to evaluate. I was really pleased MS won, in the thread for the Nell Gwynn I did say I was concerned she wouldn't be ready so for her to have won was great. However I really am struggling to evaluate the race at the moment, the RP may be 2lbs or so over the top but it is hard to know right now. Even if they have I'm still happy because it gives Music Show a really good chance of winning an average guineas if she comes on a little for the run. It's all well and good to say that she beat not much because it was just a maiden winner in 3rd and a horse that hasn't even won that in 4th but the fact is those two are so unexposed thay could be anything. They are both well regarded and from top class yards and nobody would be surprised if they go on and do bigger and better things this season. You can't right the Nell Gwynn off as a form guide yet IMO.
