re & whie - rubbish surely! Could nto win after early mistakes & that was before he had gone right handed. It was disappointing but they will hopefully just put a line through it, write it off, and take him fresh to the GC now.

Still think it'ds madness going for the Gold Cup Bobby. As good as your horse is he doesn't stand a chance against Kauto and Denman. You'd have the Ryanair to yourself again.

R Carver, exactly why do you think such a good jumper as IC made early mistakes? He jumped rubbish, Kempton is not his track. Will never beat Kauto or Denman in GC.

Best chance would have been to keep him fresh after Betfair. Unfortunately with his running style I now think Denman would break him in GC. Suspect trainer will go in with all guns blazing though.

Ryanair must be the sane calll now. If stable can get back in form he's fav for the Ryaniar - he is running for 3rd at best in the Gold Cup.

A No Brainer imo.

red & white - as i've said repeatedly elswhere, Kauto is unbeatable around kempton. i agree kempton is not IC's track - but he made mistakes before he had turned a bend at Kempton,so how can you say the track was to blame for those mistake?? The yard has not had a winner since the bula!!!

IC may not be able to beat KS and Denman, but having already won a ryanair, they may as well have a crack at it.

The kempton run told us NOTHING about IC. They should go to the gold cup fresh now. he seemed to stay at Haydock, he loves Cheltenham, and is best fresh - if he does not run again before march (hope to god he does not) and the stable is in better form (10 weeks to turn it around) he has a fair outside chance.

R&W - how can you say his best chance to win at the festival is if he goes there fresh after haydock?? He won at the festival last yr after flopping (when the yard was in similarly bad form) in last yrs king george!!!!

You're misreading me Carver.
His best chance of winning the Gold Cup, in my opinion, would have been to run him fresh after Haydock.
I realise he won the Ryanair after flopping at Kempton last year - I follow the horse closely and backed him in March and of course I think he can do it again that's why I suggested it - the Ryanair is obviously a far easier race to win than the Gold Cup.
Now he has had two hard runs, if he goes in the Gold Cup I'll be laying the place as I did at Kempton having predicted beforehand on the forum he would be pulled up or 6th. Sorry I was one out on the latter.

Fair enough R&W - he probably faces an impossible task against the big two anyway + i agree he is much better fresh & the ryanair is probably (certainly) a softer race than the GC.

I think NTD proved last yr that the break between Kempton & Cheltenham is adequate tbh. But i have read somewehere that they are thinking of running in the pillar chase in jan - if they do that, i'll rip up my GC antepost!!!

IC still has a fantastic chance of placing in the Gold Cup if going there fresh. Is it to early to no his target Bobby, Ryan Air or Gold Cup ?

Bobby........ Food for thought m8.

IMPERIAL COMMANDER (24) confirmed his trainer's opinion that he's best going left-handed by putting in a couple of dreadful jumps and failing to recover. Though I guess you could argue that the tight course didn't suit him as he's such a big, strong sort.

Imperial Commander is the only horse in training to have run as fast as Kauto Star on my ratings. Indeed he was unlucky to have the head bob go Kauto Star's way in the Betfair Chase when he too earned a rating of 45 from me.

Seeing that he's younger and more lightly raced I'd say Imperial Commander is more likely to show his best at Cheltenham in March. His chance is clearly going to depend on whether his connections have the bottle to keep him fresh for Cheltenham. If that photo against Kauto Star had gone his way he'd have won all seven times he's come into a race off a break of seven weeks or more. He's scored just once from nine tries when returned to the races more quickly.

One thing's for sure: The bookies have massively overpriced Imperial Commander at 20-1 for the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

JC - i second all of that. Take him straight there fresh (skipping the L&C chase) and he is a major player. IMO.

tbf lads he ain't gonna beat both Kauto and Denman but he'd be my likely 3rd.

When: 04 Jan 10 17:14
On soft ground IC could split Denman and Kauto Star ( i still think it was the soft ground/ Cheltenham fencing combination that caught him out when beaten by Denman), and just supposing IC has some zest left for that hill at the finish, you never know. Why win another Ryanair when you could be part of history. GL Bobby
By:
R Carver
When: 04 Jan 10 17:18
Suspect you could be right CVB - you can see him beating one, but both? Looks tough. Tbf, i started backing him before Denman came back (thinking he might not be the same horse now... looks stupid now!). I think he is a major player if putting his best forward. I'm certain he is still on the upgrade, much better at Prestbury Pk, and can run a big race. GC should defo be the call.
By:
CVByrne
When: 04 Jan 10 17:23
He may be on the upgrade, he probably is but Kauto and Denman seem to be too as they just ran their best ever races.

I hope IC goes for the Gold Cup, I don't want to have a small field and he's the 3rd best staying chaser around. He'd have a better chance next season imo though.

I'll never complain if my horse ran his race and was beaten by a better one. No complaints.

He will go for the GC and fresh.

Obviously Kempton was not our finest hour - he hates the track and he hates going right handed. I think he made that abundantly clear on Boxing Day, irrespective of what the trainer or myself might think. He won't be asked to try again.

Despite the result it was a fantastic occasion and hats of to a true star. Kauto was awesome, a foot perfect round of jumping and a finely tuned engine - just played with the rest of the field. A joy to watch.

After Kempton watching the Lexus was like having root canal surgery - but that life !

We win some and lose some but learning from the mistakes is the key.
I doubt I will be backing in the Gold Cup so I will cheer your boy on.

The other thing I wondered is why Paddy didn't pull up in the King George. I don't have the video but I seem to recall in last year's race he was up there for a good distance then faded quickly approaching the home turn on the second circuit. I don't recall his jumping being poor. This year it was all over after two fences yet he was given an unnecessarily hard race to eventually finish 5th. Couldn't see the point.

Good prize money for 5th, and jockey could be suspended for pulling up unnecessarily.

Well Bobby a few on us on here said it was just plain stupid going to Kempton, and I think you yourself agreed and tried to talk to NTD. Think the trainer should have been overruled imo.

Know what you mean Barry but there's a book of excuses for pulling up and I doubt if many get fined.

Said well before Boxing Day he should have gone to Leopardstown - and I think IC's run proved me correct.
By:

Obviously would have performed alot better at Leopardstown. You should write a letter to NTD.
By:
comeonkautostar
When: 09 Jan 10 19:42
Id say the odds of him performing better at Leopardstown than he did at Kempton, when he was beaten after the 2nd fence and performed abot 2 stone below his best, would be sub 1.2.

And I dare say one of his owners agree with me hence the above statement that watching the Lexus was like having surgery.

It matters not now. The time has come to move forward and as Bobby has indicated the target now is to go straight for the festival and lock horns with the Nicholls bandwagon. In a race which may seriously cut up the 16s available for IC at 1/4 the odds a place is well worth considering. :)

When: 10 Jan 10 10:26
Comeonkautostar - i actually said on another thread where Bobby was discussing IC that if he were mine i'd go straight to the Gold Cup fresh, missing out King George and any other race. But of course he isn't mine (or yours) and it's up to Bobby and the other owners, the trainer and jockey,to arrive at the best option for the horse (or the option that they feel,at that time,is best for the horse).

I'm pretty sure the last thing an owner would enjoy after watching his 'plan' for the horse go pear shaped is to be told by an anonymous clever clogs on here that he should have listened to them after all and taken a different course of action.

It doesn't come across too well imo.
By:
comeonkautostar
When: 10 Jan 10 13:41
Tbh, i don't care how it comes across. Never have on an anonymous internet forum, and never will.

The point I was making however, was that Bobby agreed with me, and quite a few others (so don't be thinking that i am saying i was the only one right and i am great) that IC should have went for the Lexus, were he'd have enjoyed the left handed track and more cut in the ground, plus the weaker opposition.

And I don't think it took a rocket scientist to come to that (correct) conclusion. Hence my opinion that maybe the owner(s) in this instance, or certainly if this situation was to occur next season, should overrule the trainer.

Bobby will be sure to ask you instead of NTD then in future then given you have the game by the balls.

You dont seem to be getting the point Joe, Bobby himself wanted to run the horse in the Lexus.
By:
Diamond_Joe_Quimby
When: 10 Jan 10 13:59
Im not missing the point amaru, there are other owners involved and the trainers advice was taken on board not just Bobbys. No need for the "It was a stupid decision" remark imho. Every wrong decision is stupid in hindsight, sadly hindsight is something no one has. They made a choice and i respect their decision. No proof the horse would have run any better at Leopardstown either just guessing. Best of luck to connestions in future.
By:
amaru
When: 10 Jan 10 14:07
I have no doubt the horse would have fared better in the Lexus but I personally would have gone straight to Cheltenham after Haydock and not run at all over Christmas, he runs so well fresh that this would have given him his best chance in the Gold Cup.

Nothing wrong with saying that it was a stupid decision in my view either. Plenty of times people have aired their views on such subjects on here in the past. Are we supposed to not say these things because a part owner of the horse posts on here?? Get a grip ffs, i'm sure Bobby Dazzler isnt the least bit bothered about reading things like that.
