For me it would be nothing, I'd keep him fresh for the Gold Cup where he would have a real chance of upsetting the establishment. The thought of Denman and IC going eye to eye over the last four...what a battle that would be! (I haven't forgotten Kauto but I think if the two aforementioned were at their best on the day, they would have Ruby pushing along at the top of the hill and he might not be able to get back to them). IC would need to be jumping better than at Haydock and he has been like a lion twice at Cheltenham so he can do it. Kauto's leaps down the home straight at Haydock gave him enough of an advantage to last out and win the race and Denman put Barber's Shop back in his box at the cross fence at Newbury. Magnificent.
It's not necessarily a problem running IC over Christmas as he flopped last year but came up the hill with turbo boosters in March. If the trainer runs him in the holidays, sixth place or PU in the King George would be less of a slog than the Lexus ;-) Sorry, I'm being cheeky - Ithink he would have more chance of winning the Lexus so it might take more out of him. It's also possible that the thrilling fight back against Kauto will take a bit of time to get over, more time than a run over Christmas would allow. |

I still do not believe that Kauto Star beat Imperial Commander at Haydock, we cannot see the winning post in the photo finish, nor
can we see the reflective image, that could have been a photo taken about 3 strides from the winning post when KS WAS in the lead. |

FRONTIER DANCER - A horse I bought for the Jump For Fun Racing Club which I co-run goes in the Gerry Feilden today - has strengthened a lot, intensive schooloing sessions seem to have paid dividends, and has done all of his work stride for stride with Imperial Commander - big step up in class but must have a great ew shout Bobby,is FD an intended runner in the ladbroke ? |

Yes Frontier Dancer heads to Ascot - he is in blinding form at home, has come on for his run - & if he resists the temptation to kick the second last out of the ground should go very close

he thing that the article fails to mention is that at the time IC last ran in the King George NTD stable was in rotten form and the horses were going out like a light! IC ran the same as all the other stables runners at that time. I ws there on the day and coming rounf the bend IC was the only horse able to go with Kauto (A good sign) however like the NTD stable at the time he went out like a light in the straight. I have always felt this was due to the stable form not the horse not staying. For me though the Lexus left handed is there for the taking and I dont see the point in following Kauto there at a track where Kauto is at his best and you are not. I seem to remeber you stating once that the reason he is not so good Right handed was due to the hock problem he suffered. I see you say that he gets buzzed up over shorter distances, but given the current Champion Chase field would you consider the QM if Master Minded did not make it? I dont believe there is a horse in the country bar master minded that could stay with your horse given the searing gallop you could set over 2! If he were out would it be a consideration or is it a case of there is only one gold cup? Whatever you decide the best of luck with it! I would love to see him steam up the hill in the GC or Champion chase and hope you get 1 of the 2 majors you deserve this season. I believe Joncol is a vastly under rated 2nd season chaser and could yet be the improver in this years Gold cup! If I were you I would head to Ireland for the Lexus although I believe your last run there was the horses worst of the past 2 seasons. It could be down to not liking travelling? As with all races there are many imponderables and I hope for you things go well and good luck for the season. Whatever you decide I will be cheering your horse up the hill come march and thank you for your input this season once again. P.S I have heard Crack Away Jack goes the Champion Chase and has NTD found the key to Khyber Kim that Henderson could not? For me if he has the horse is a standout in the Champion hurdle to show the immense promise he has always showed. I have always backed him first time out and then left him alone as he has never carried his form. However this time the horse has not carried his form to his 2nd race but improved on it. He is a serious contender if maintaining it all season!!! |

I was firmly in the Lexus camp but wouldn't want to go on heavy ground. It now looks like a decent enough contest, I understand PN has supplemented What A Friend, also Voy Por Ustedes, Cooldine, Joncol, Notre Pere and Aaron Concerto. It will give Ruby some difficulties but I know that the feeling is that Joncol still has a lot to find to match Cooldine, and he will want to be at Leopardstown anyway as he is sweet on the chances of Dooney Gate. As far as Kempton is concerned it is only the RH issue that worries me, we won't run from any horse. In fairness I was worried last week as his first piece of work back was not great and his scope was a bit cloudy. But it came back showing no infection and a dose of decongestant he is now working like a train again. 100% sure to head to Kempton, with the forecast I suspect we will have soft / heavy ground at Kempton and worse at Leopardstown. Khyber King is a revelation and NTD deserves all the credit - his new barn increasing the number of horses, and the return of Carl have all had an impact. He was already a great trainer, but with more ammunition available is able to pick and choose more and I think you will see him climbing the trainers table in the next few seasons. Also the finest sportsman in the game - so deserves everything that comes his way. Hope you are having a good xmas and back in the UK |

Have backed Kyber Kim - looks like false odds against some over-hyped horses. Nigel still underestimated and suspect majority think the horse will not hold its form but he usually gets them ready for Cheltenham.

Owner has always wanted a Champion Chase horse!! Good luck to them I say, it worked for Master Minded as a novice and who knows if he will be racing next year? Could be a smart move. Master MInded apart, and who know's if he will make it, the Arkle looks a much stronger race than the QM at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of novices have a tilt.

Daft decision running IC in King George. Ran bady as expected and had a hard race. Trainer has stuffed him for GC. No chance in that now and hope he runs in Ryanair.
