e.g Roma v Man City tonight, correct score:
1-1 BFSB shows 7.0, yet I got 7.5 price rushed 2-1 9.5 quoted, rushed to 10.0 1-2 10.0 quoted, got 11.0 0-1 12.0 quoted (the only price they are joint best on looking at oddschecker) but got a rush to 13.0 2-1 price rushed to 10.0, even though it is currently 11.5 on the exchange. Where does the difference go? That's a big cut they are taking for themselves. ![]() |

I make that 14.3% commission for the sportsbook user who has been price rushed. Nice work if you can get it.
By:
Only way you can answer your question is to back 2-1 now and see if it's still rushed to the same odds that Vis got.
By:
(I suspect what you're offered will be dependent upon how much you want on and the volumes available on the exchange)
By:
True the odds might have moved, can't be sure. They should be taking no more than 5% otherwise I think it's totally unfair.
By:
It would certainly be nice if it could somehow be incorporated into the "commission generated" figure for PC payers!
By:
When I did the 2-1 bet the price on the exchange was 10.5, and my BFSB offer of 9.5 became 10.0
Have just redone it with the price on the exchange at 11.5 and I now got a price rush of 10.5. BF is making more here as a middle man than they would be from exchange business alone. In fact isn't BF getting two earners here? 1. Selling on the bets to BFSB customers at around a 5% premium and then taking the commission from the market on the exchange.......all before PC of course. |
By:
And this suprises you why?? Betfair have become greedy it is plainly obvious. Wanting all money that comes into the site, or as much as they can get. They don't care about winners either now.
By:
No it doesn't surprise me, but perhaps is one reason why they aren't pricing up their market to a tighter margin than they could.
I guess they have figured out that they are attracting plenty of customers as it is and by price-rushing them give the illusion of a better deal for the customer (as somebody said earlier) whilst allowing BF to skim extra from the exchange, risk free, in the process. |
By:
Vis - If the punter collects, the layer will have lost (assuming one bet in isolation), so will receive no exchange commission from that bet.
By:
I think the assumption they are hedging on the exchange is wrong...they will run a book with loss limits and then hedge if they take bigger bets...just my opinion.
By:
Liquidity on exchange on champions league is truly dreadful.....never seen anything like it in all my time on here.
By:
Yeah, like La Liga, I've basically given up on most Champions League markets.
As for Price Rush, I don't think Betfair use it for hedging but for providing a simple interface for simple punters which still gives them the benefit of the better prices found on the exchange. To be frank, with the Sportsbook being in existence, Price Rush is a winner all round: we win as more bets matched, Betfair win as take a nice margin, punter wins as get a better price. |
By:
from TheVis price's given on the price rush I think they are looking to take a 5% cut and rounding in their favour.
2-1 price rush odds of 10, exchange odds 10.5 is equivalent to 5.3% commission. price rush odds of 10.5, exchange odds 11.5 is equivalent to 9.5% commission. (If they gave price rush odds 11, exchange odds 11.5 it would be only 4.8%). That's fair enough I suppose if that is how they do it, but as they use fractional odds on the sportsbook the rounding will be quite favourable. |
By:
not convinced at all by this 'price rush'
markets look as dead as ever only increase in footfall is probably selected match odds (soccerball- Champions league 10/12/14) ,and short odds on the c/s on about 3 matches. higher volumes simply suggest higher trades amongst a few players taking greater risk to maintain profits. Nothing to see here . |

It's 11am Thursday and Betfair have loaded about 20% of the markets for the Premier League Sat 3pm matches. It's as if they've given up. Not that I blame them as these markets are dead nowadays but could be a sign of things to come.
By:
Without proper incentives together with high commission rates and huge premium charges even if you are lucky to win, people simply bet at the Books tax free or spend their money on non gambling activities nowadays.
The world survived before Betfair and will again long after Betfair is gone. Important message for Betfair and any business: 1. Betfair need customers much more than customers need Betfair. 2. Shaft customers and they will spend their time and money elsewehere. 3. Focus on your unique selling point or fade away and disappear within a saturated market. |

The prices on the exchange where I am market making are all over the shop. Really hope an arber comes along sooner rather than later and knocks it in to line. Or have all the arbers left aswell.

It's 11am Thursday and Betfair have loaded about 20% of the markets for the Premier League Sat 3pm matches. Its very weird isn't it, last season these would be up about a week in advance, then it dropped to about 3 days in advance, and I think the Southampton v Man Utd match on Monday had markets still not up 24 hours before kickoff! |

By:
Don't imagine you'll find too many PC-paying arbers, unless they have a death wish, YOMOMMA!

I presumed he was meaning the non-PC-Paying Arbers!

BF same as Tesco.treating customers like mugs. No wonder they are both going down the khazi.
Managment must be as thick as sh1t. |
By:
the difference is we keep hearing on the news how much Tesco are "struggling" and yet all we hear about Betfair is how well they are doing

By:
They are just 'Bitches' as Jessie would say.
By:
We hear how well Betfair are doing but there's a reason they stopped reporting on the exchange separately earlier this year and bundled it together with the Sportsbook. It's pretty easy to add customers and increase revenue when you bolt on a sportsbook to your business!

This problem alone would be 100% solved if American laws would adapt to the 21st century and allow American citizens to bet online!
My dream is to trade on NHL and NBA with millions of liquidity. So much possibilities! |

i've raised concerns about the "coming and going" of the cross matching bot during a match before on here.
so have i long ago. it seems to happy more at busy times = saturday afternoons and so on. i wondered if it coincided with high liquidity horse races (whether before or during i have no clue cos i don't look at racing) becuase it often goes off for a couple of minutes a few times in an afternoon at the weekend. and of course there are still sports where cross matching does not operate (for no apparent reason, but it suits me). |

Impressed by the high levels of money available in the in-play NFL game tonight on channel 4. Lines are tight and easily place £5000 on the 1.25 favorite or £800on 4.8 outsider.

I believe as more folk are finding the side markets dead they will in turn -turn their attention to the main markets .
The main markets will become busier short term but will ,after a short time become even more competitive . The better players will stay on, while the weaker will drop off leading to some attrition in the main markets as well. |
By:
Getting worse and worse..gna have to pack it in soon.
By:
It's pretty bad, isn't it layer? at least, in the side markets I do.
been pro on here for abut 7 years, and for the first time I'm thinking about what to do next. |
By:
Yeah side markets see next to no liquidity unless huge match now on the football. Obviously loads of people competing against each other means margins very tight if present at all tbh. This is not sustainable now, and Betfair will become a graveyard soon enough I really believe that now. Betfair don't care tbh, so why should I.
By:
i stopped betting on other markets now as p/c taken affect of my trading margins, and yes we are all being squeezed, so moved my other stuff to matchbook, betfair where happy for me to do so as tried to negotiate, its no secret

Irony is Betfair are advertising cash out to the hilt, but with declining liquidity across the board I can see this being a long term problem
By:
however liquidity is not declining but going up
so this thread should have been called "my share of profits in big decline on betfair" |

That's probably a fair comment (kind of) from fixed, above.
The exchange still turns over a good amount of money, but the problem is more where the money is and how it can (or cannot) still be exploited by clever players. It's not about 'liquidity' per se, rather the use of the exchange, and the need for old strategies to be altered to find profits. Would it be true to say that the sharks are finding it harder to win in heavily funded mainstream markets, as there are less easily spotted value selections? Hence the idea of playing on here 'professionally' has changed, in line with that? Would be interesting to know the perception of more casual/fun punters about liquidity - my guess is that they would not see any problem at all, as all they want in a few well funded major markets to play. And they get that easily on here. |
