old site was unusable last night if you were moving between markets

Its not only loading issue now. sometimes the old site freeze altogether. All the functions, like cancel or referesh. Its now very risky to use the old site in-play. But beta is still rubbish so its a question of choosing less evil at the moment.

Same problems here, which have recently driven me to the new site. Was hoping after a few weeks i'd get used to all the annoying un-usable features but no, it's become almost impossible to trade quickly. Mentioned all these problems in the 'feedback' forms but no response so back to the old 'hanging' site and have sent a lengthy email of feeback/complaint. Will update if i get anything other than the standard cookie monster response. arghh..

It's borderline unusable today.  Every few minutes I have to stop doing everything for 30 seconds.

I am genuinely beginning to think that Betfair are a totally incompetent at running an internet betting service.

How can a problem flagged to them MONTHS ago which can cause their clients to lose money, not be fixed by now.

No other bookmaker on the planet would leave their site so degraded like this.

Not only can it cause their clients money, it can also cost Betfair money, since some of us place less bets because of this (It's not possible to place bets when we don't have access to the market) and worst case scenario for them is that we leave the site all-together. The last scenario is not an option for me, but I can see something like this being the last straw for some.

The site has never been less userfriendly but no acknowledgement or explanation from betfair. As has been said there are many faults which could easily result in experienced users placing bets not intended.I would imagine inexperienced customers are just giving up and going elsewhere.Betfair read our posts and have every opportunity to explain what is happening yet choose to bury their heads in the sand. It should be possible to give some feedback-that's what forums are for.

I was hoping yesterday was so bad because it was a Saturday and the site often is sluggish owing to all the football and racing.  I'm pretty peeved to see today's the same.  This is as bad, if not worse, than it's been.

im only using the old site. the new site is horrible. although if markets wont load on the old site, betfair will win as we all have to move to the "new faster betting experience".

Was told this via email: "Currently we are running 2 sites, ultimately once the classic site is no longer running we can increase bandwidth and improve speeds."
This is news, right, if I read that correctly? Although we've suspected that they are getting rid of the classic site eventually, I haven't heard them say it before.

Did a webinar with betfair this week and was told that the old site is definitely being phased out. Didnt give a date but they said it would be soon. Have been trying to use the new site to get used to it but its awful. A lot of coupons dont have a refresh button on. The site will work ok for a bit then it doesnt refresh at all on markets. The only way to see the correct prices is to navigate away and then back. Dreadful...

.lol @Betfair The Beta site is the one that needs to be turned off. They said they had made improvements to it but it is completely useless for efficiently placing bets. On the Classic you have the scrolling menu on the left had side which makes it easy to navigate to the market you want to go to. On the Beta site you have to go all the way over to the right hand side to move the page down to get to the market... very time consuming and soul destroying.

The ordering of unmatched bets as has been mentioned in site feedback.
Bets from other markets showing up on the betslip of the market you are viewing.

what happened to question and answers from customers?

They did a survey a while back about the new site, but it seems no improvements of any use were made.

Now they want to do another survey when the problems with the site are obvious.

The classic site was developed over many years with many minor improvements made along the way with the help of input from customers.
That is why it is so effective for efficiently placing bets.
The new site is a disaster, trying to put to much stuff on the page. If you need a fixed odds site, do it seperately and put the multiple bets etc.
Maybe then you won't have a cluttered mess.

How come they never ask people like myself who have literally spent thousands of hours navigating this site to road test a new release?

Instead you're held in absolute contempt whilst a "we know better" policy is pursued.

There appears to be some absolute numpty nuts heading Betfair these days.

Oncoming train crash inevitable!

Take a look at this for an example of just how unusable the new site is http://screencast.com/t/oUR8YeM4hTo

Bets are going into the system with incorrect stakes on the new interface (the example shows a £222 bet being placed but going through as a £22 bet). This is happening on both Chrome and Firefox. I spoke with Betfair about this last week, but it has not been resolved as yet.

The thing that worries me is the news disclosed on this thread this evening that the old site is soon to be phased. The new site is clearly nowhere near ready for general use - if Betfair don't realise this they're dafter than I thought. Taking down the old site before ALL the bugs have been ironed out of the new interface will be catastrophic for Betfair. I should imagine the great majority of users haven't even looked at the new version - upon being forcibly switched over, surely a lot of people will just switch off.

Liquidity has been noticeably down in 'edge' sports in the last week on here (basketball etc.) - I can only put this down to issues with the old site. Betfair really need to get their act together, and quickly. The likes of Bet £3.65 with their slick interfaces will soon start to draw the all important casual punter away from here if problems persist. Getting them to come back will be a monumental task.

Beta is awful on so many levels and i can't get used to it -  i can only hope a number of improvements are in the pipeline , it doesn't feel solid enough - however , i believe BF have probably carried out their research on 18-24 y/olds and not the general betting population, this would make business sense of course if B365are the biggest threat -thats site is as equally awful as the BETA
This younger group may have liked the bells and whistles and loud colors  without thinking too much about the mechanics ...only my guess

Even if you can open the market the odds never refresh, the site was better 8 years ago, if I had to put up with the laggy current one when starting out I doubt I would have ever made it to where I have today

I've had an update from Ian Chuter, Betfair's Group Operations Director.

The October improvements which he mentioned to me in August were for Beta only.  I was under the impression the improvements would also be noticeable on the old site but I was wrong.

As has been mentioned, the old site will have to be retired at some point.  The old site is "beyond repair" and so they're concentrating on the new site.

In short, we need to move to the new site or API.

I believe a number of you will be getting phone calls to discuss the issues you're having with the new site.  Hopefully you take this opportunity to explain what the problems are.  I'm afraid we're at the stage where there's no point fighting the new site, we need to interact and hope they take on board our concerns about the new site.

As for me.  I'm sticking with the old site at the moment but will be trying the new site agains on quiet days (and not hesitate in reporting issues) and will finally dip my toe into the world of API (I expect via Gruss or Geek's Toy).

I keep selecting it and I always just get the old site.
How strange is that ?

Thanks for the update Templeton. The problem as I see it now is the more we complain about the performance of the classic site the quicker they will turn it off. Like you I will continue to use classic (It speaks volumes that so many prefer to stick to a barely-working classic site than switch to beta) and will look to move to API when the classic site is switched off.

Hard to see how the classic site can be "beyond repair" - the beta site, on the other hand, could certainly be described that way
By:

When: 24 Oct 12 15:01
Np, tommycockles.  I agree wholeheartedly with what you say.

GoBallistic, the argument used was the old site was created 11 years ago and wasn't designed for what they do now and the number of customers that use it.

The old site's been a little better today.  Such a good feeling when it's like this!

As I know betfair are monitoring this thread my issues with the new site are:

1. No auto refresh.  (Yes I can get markets to auto refresh via a clever computer code but that's a pain)
2. Matched bets are not in market order,  that makes checking where I stand on markets with many selections a right pain.

If you guys have suggestions for easy work arounds that would be appreciated.

It would be virtually impossible to make this place any more user unfriendly than it is right now.
What's the point of advertising and sponsoring things when the site is complete unusable mess
