Calling teams 'bottom half' when half the league has only played 6 games is ridiculous.
If you've played 7 games and beaten Liverpool you are more likely to be top half. If you've played 6 and lost to Arsenal you are more likely to be bottom half. Palace and Chelsea wouldn't be 'top 6' if they hadn't beaten Liverpool. Ridiculous cherry-picking. |

Arsenal went away to Anfield and there's was absolutely nothing in the game bar a wonder goal.
Arsenal went away to Newcastle another top 5 side and won, and generally considered the overall better side even by Newcastle fans. Arsenal drew with City at home after City parked the bus and played hoof ball up to Haaland. Arsenal beat West Ham at home with a manager in the midst of his honeymoon period and won. Arsenal went away to Man United and won, admitted they're s*** ![]() Fairly difficult start for Arsenal overall, and we've ended up top at the end of the 2nd international break. And we're looking far better than Liverpool - we were even favs for the title before today's games and that's when Liverpool were 2 points clear. If we don't win the title this season, barring an injury crisis, then you can say we've bottled it, other than that, it really doesn't look like we will. There's not excuses this season, recruitment was excellent, cover all the pitch now. Whereas the Liverpool players currently all look like they've just met each other in the car park before the match. Kind Regards. |

Newc have played both pool and arsé (and lost both) but they can still be 'top half' when the other 10 (TEN) teams play their 7th game tomorrow.
They are a CL team but are 'bottom half' according to this cherry-picker. Arse beat united first day and they are 'top-half' right now, despite arsé not beating any 'top half' teams (apart from the first day when they beat United at OT). An unpicked cherry. Chelsea without Palmer and Colwill (and another 3 injured CHs) are an awful side. Palace, Newc, Bournemouth and Arsé are good sides pool have faced. Arsé and pool are below their best but pool have a lot more problems to fix. Early days but to read into and cherry-pick league positions halfway thru the 7th round is utter horseshíte. |

Dragon I honestly don't know what you've seen so far to suggest that Arsenal are not the best team or that they're going to bottle it ?
|
|
By:
Long way to go mes and odds on is crazy for a team that has only played 2 out of the top 10(prior to today) and not won any of the two they played.
They were very fortunate to win at old Trafford and were saved by a late goals v Man city and Newcastle. To be fair im not impressed as yet with them. Their substantial wins have all been at home v Leeds, West Ham and Forest (all who are currently v poor prem teams). They are very prone to injuries under Arteta and whilst they have improved the squad they are not an odds on shot in my book after 8 games. Thet are still a lay team at that price and I hope you undestand the logic behind my view. I have no inherent dislike of Arsenal my views are based on what i have seen and their form patterns this year and in previous years (esp under Arteta). Hope that helps you understand my view on this. |
|
By:
it does, some valid points made, still think we're probably the strongest squad this season though. Kind Regards.

By:
maybe mayb not. the whole point is none of us know- its about judgement and to me in the current prem i wd lay any team that is 1.82 after 8 games.
the price is just way too short. the fixtures so far have been reasonably comfortable for arsenal and november doesnt look too bad either. the real test comes when they play the top teams. last season they only won 6 out of 20 games v the top 10 teams. if they repeat anyrthing near that they will not win the prem. the hardest thing is to get that first prem or CL win - once they get that im sure theyll relax and be a stronger team. until that is achieved they will always find it mentally hard to get over the line. Especially for the manager and hid team. |

Odds on is short after 8 games but '2 out of the top 10' after 8 games is ridiculous cherry-picking again. The top 10 isn't set after 8 games and those 2 just happen to be the only other contenders for 8 years solid. The other teams are a level below and Liverpool have lost to 3 of them in a row.
City are not at the level they were when they challenged previously. They've lost to Brighton and Spurs and beaten nobody better. Arsenal have problems in attack from open-play. Gyok is poor in link-up but should get better, as should Eze. Havertz is still better in the 9 than Gyok imo. The manager seems to be the biggest problem here, he seems more concerned about getting hit on the counter when his team has the ball in the opposition half than he is about scoring, esp when 1 up. Their defence and whole team when they don't have the ball is elite and no other team can match that. A horrible side to play against but shouldn't be relying on his defence against vastly inferior sides to win games. Go for the 2 goal lead and rest Saka etc, it's a long season. If Saka gets a bad injury again odds on will look silly. Liverpool have a big problem in defence, build-up and control of games. They had it the last 2 seasons but the guys they've signed to replace Trent/Robbo are poor passers, so are Konate and Bradley. We've already seen Szobo and Grav moved into the backline for this reason and that hurts their midfield. Their attack is worse than last season and that's what won them the league. Salah going to AFCON for a month soon but that mightn't be a bad thing. Slot has no experience trying to build a squad at this level or integrate so many new players all at the same time. But it's 8 games in and it can flip from week to week. Arsenal have Palace next. Pool and City have much more serious looking problems than Arsenal tho and they don't look like they'll be fixed soon if at all. Pool better finishing and they'd be fine the last few games despite being poor at times, a lot like last season. Should never have dropped Etikite, who is their only signing to have performed so far. |
|
By:
Pool were also fairly poor last season from the PSG 1st leg onwards, they won the league at a canter twice and never had the pressure of Arsenal or City breathing down their neck in a run-in. Hats off to them but it's not the same when someone else is on that level.
People talk about Arsenal bottling a title nobody even expected them to challenge for with Rob Holding playing the last few games. Liverpool bottled a 12 point lead the only year they were in a similar position. I doubt City will be doing a 14 game streak this year. |

All the new players coming in to Liverpool are having a negative effect andb I still say that they would have not bought Ekitike if they knew they would get Isak, the whole process was a mess, Liverpool didn't try hard enough initially for Isak, who was very quiet early doors and didn't appear to encourage them, this resulted in them anandoning him and taking Ekitike, Isak then panicked and threw his toys out the pram which Liverpool then responded to and bought him anyway.
While all this was going on Ekitike started like a house on fire but has now been destabiluized as Slot tries to fit in the 130 million signing, who is struggling and, for the moment, looks hugely overpriced. |
|
By:
You can win the league if you are misfiring somewhat up top providing you are strong defensively but you can't win the league the other way around, particularly at the moment with the EPL having a much greater strength in depth, there are just too many teams that can hurt you if you can't defend properly.

|
By:
I agree.
I always wonder too how established squads react, subconsciously even, to the lurid stories of payments and salaries paid to incoming big buys. |
|
By:
I doubt that's what happened with Isak. I'd say Liverpool had him tapped up and told him to be quiet until Ekitike was signed, as Newc would have been in for Etikite had he piped up sooner. Within a week of Ekitike completing his transfer, Isak was training in Spain and refusing to play for Newc.
Isak's conduct alone would be a big red flag for me. |

Newcastle celtic friendly was 19th july
This is isaks first strike day. With club claiming his minutes are being managed.(some folk think hes been on low effort since league cup final so strike may have begun earlier) Ekitike signed for Liverpool the following week. The players, apparently, were told of isaks desire to leave, shortly before celtic game. (reported by local journalist, and never denied) |
|
By:
Yes and negotiations with Frankfurt and Ekitike would have been at a very advanced stage by then. The initial fee was reported agreed the next day with add-ons agreed and deal done on 23rd.
It makes no sense that Isak would have downed tools on Newc because Pool signed someone else instead of him. It makes sense that Pool told him to shut up to keep the Ekitike fee down and then pipe up immediately in order to try get him cheaper too. There is no way pool weren't in contact with him during all of this. |
|
By:
It's worse than I thought if they've actually planned this disaster.
![]() |
|
By:
You thought they just broke the transfer record and spent a 9 figure sum without planning it? Richard Hughes did that after already doing the same with Wirtz?
What do you think Ekitike would have cost if they'd signed Isak first and Newc had another £100m+ in the bank to bid for him? |
|
By:
Newcastle can't match Liverpool wages
Newcastle tried, and failed to sign ekitike twice before. Even before they switched to chasing isak. |
|
By:
Newc could easily match Liverpool wages and beat the fee if Isak was sold first and they'd have known of Newc's interest in Ekitike. They played Newc and Isak was complicit in the whole plan. He is more of a snake than you think imo. Richard Hughes and Pool are not the types to go dropping a record fee without meticulously planning it, esp after already spending 9 figures on Wirtz.
Why would Isak pipe up when he did if he doesn't know Liverpool are interested all along? They've spent £100m on Wirtz and signed Ekitike, nobody thought they'd be interested in Isak for another £100m+ and Isak would have thought they'd signed Ekitike instead of him and couldn't afford him if he didn't know different. If he wanted to force a move to Pool the time to pipe up was before they spent all the Wirtz and Ekitike money unless he knew they were coming for him anyway. He piped up to try keep his own fee down for Liverpool but he also helped them get Ekitike ahead of Newc and keep that fee a lot lower too. None of it makes sense otherwise and Richard Hughes is known for his wizardry in the transfer market. |
|
By:

No they couldn't, the club has a wage structure, paying ekitike liverpool wages would see 8 or 9 others rise to that level or a large % of it. In a few years they maybe can match wages but for now most targets will go to clubs paying bigger wages... |
|
By:
Why would Isak pipe up when he did if he doesn't know Liverpool are interested all along?
Isak thought Newcastle would break pay structure for him, despite him signing a multi year contract. Arsenal also wanted isak, they couldnt/wouldn't match what Liverpool offered. |

So we're saying that all the Dick Francis stuff resulting in the 80 odd for Ekitike and the 120 odd for Isak was "keeping the price down"?

So we're saying that all the D*ck Francis stuff resulting in 80 oddfor Ekitike and 120 odd for Isak was "keeping the price down"? and if they did say all that to Isak, which would be asking him to alienate himself still further with the Newcastle fans, that should have left Isak uncomfortable and rather than being smart it backfired because Liverpool failed to make an allowance for Newcastle not immediately bending over resulting in them being left wih a player that is weeks behind the rest and left looking like a shadow of the player he was last season, it could change, but at the moment it looks like Liverpool have massively overpaid for him, as well as destabilizing the other guy who was the one player that they had bought who actually started well because they are under pressure to get the 120 million player onto the pitch.
