Fair points lybertyne, but what had Southgate won and look what he achieved with England. I don't feel it would take a big improvement to push us one step further. For me and the majority (it would appear) it's an improvement.
My concern is if he can hold it together. Seems to be a little temperamental at times, like the handshake with Conte, for example, and can he get the dressing room onside; something which Southgate managed to do, which probably helped our progress tbf. |

Taking the dressing room forward is vital.
Maybe Ben white could be acid test. |

It is a wait and sed situation. He clearly has some sort of nous but is also a ticking time bomb. There will be no transfer arguments just behavioural issues as to what is expected of an England manager by the FA. He is no doubt his own man but that is one major issue. The other is can is hold the team?
Personally J hope he builds the team around Bellingham and plays the best player in each position. I am fed up of the Gerrard or Lampard argument when the answer was Scholes. There is a lot of talent to work with. They cannot all play as Carsley was smart enough to show everybody who called for that. |
|
By:
Still can't work out why he can't start immediately; answers on a postcard. Nevertheless, with two games to go I'm hopeful that some of our players will bust a gut against Greece and Ireland and put us back playing teams that will really test us. They'll surely want to make an impression.

Ben White has his head screwed on. Every few weeks he gets two weeks off to rest his body. Probably be increasing the age he can play to. Training camp in Finland or a week in the sun? No contest. |

Don't want to get the blame and pressure for not getting promotion from the NL in his first two games is one very good reason. What a massive bet Greece at 7/4 is to win the group btw. Second reason is to have more time to prepare and watch players, and opposition.

Explains Carsley’s responses, as by all account agreement with Tuchel was reached a couple of weeks ago.
Tuchel might be good as a coach in this role. Might not. But there is an idea that England is a sleeping giant awaiting the kiss of some managerial genius. I just see a below elite international team. England might eventually win a Euros. But I don’t see them being good enough to trouble the scorers in the World Cup. We're just not that good. Hope I’m wrong. Press conference was a bit depressing (not his fault). Some idiot even asked the ‘Will you sing the National Anthem’ question. Because that will make a huge difference to team performance. |

A champions league winning side also winning the CWC and Super Cup is never going to be impressive.
He was never going to win the league in England or Germany against Pep. Dortmund sold 3 of his best performers in Gundo, Hummels and Mhiki and replaced them with youngsters after his 1st season. Dortmund's team bus was bombed in his 2nd season and the club agreed to UEFA's demand to play the Monaco game the following day, against his wishes. He won the German Cup a month after that. He seems to have a rep as a negative, defensive coach in England because of his time at Chelsea. He doesn't have that rep anywhere else, he's always been known as a superb attacking coach who adapts his teams to expose the weakness of the opponent. He had to be defensive with that Chelsea side to be successful. If anything it highlights his versatility rather than negativity and that is a good thing for England because you have to be able to play like that to win tournaments. |

Just found out it's an 18 month contract... Pep?

Apologies Clydebank, thanks for the reply. Still seems strange not to get started ASAP. He would have two games in a competition that few care about against lesser and beatable opposition. What better way to get your feet under the table. He'll have plenty of time between internationals for all the other stuff.

looks a great appointment, hopefully he has second thoughts and slings it, after that nonsense at press conference about singing a song.

Sam Wallace in the Telegraph
12 October - says appointment of Pep would be shooting for the stars and most ambitious project for FA since Wembley rebuild 15 October - after Tuchel announced says that FA should have hired an English coach and hiring a foreigner goes against everything International football exists for. These are the type of morally bankrupt cretins who drive the poppy/anthem narrative. Can't think of another country who goes on like this. Maybe the US would, seeing as they play their anthem before network televised domestic league games. |

i don't think Ireland asked their new manager if he would sing national anthem, or even bygone days big Jack legendary England world cup winner, but nobody expected him to sing the anthem, this english mob are weirdos currently, never used to be like that, remember gazza (real player better than moderate they have now) making faces, laughing and joking during anthem

I like Tuchel, but it is a sad incitement English football coaches that the FA thinks so little of them that they hire a German who's been out of a job for the last few months, though if England do win the World Cup in America in 2026, nobody will care where the manager was from.
Probably the first time I can remember England hiring an elite level manager in his prime, it's a good appointment so you can't criticise the FA for actually wanting to win something, it's not their fault English coaches are useless. Last time an English manager won an FA Cup was Redknapp in 2008, last time an English manager who a top level league was Howard Wilkinson in 1990, last time an English manager who any European trophy was Tony Barton in 1982, all of this if My Name was Sam Allerdich or Sean Dychindinho I'd be managing a top level English club is bollox, if you're good enough you'd be given the job. Having said all that, I don't think it should ever have been allowed from the off to allow foreign coaches taking over random international football sides, the whole point of international football is country v country, that should clearly extend to the manager given he is the the one orchestrating everything, i.e. the most important person in the whole setup, everything stems from the manager. That probably would have meant going along with Lee Carsley, who would ultimately have failed, putting more emphasis and funding into developing Elite English coaches, Kind Regards. |

By:
I make you right Mes, regarding foreign coaches managing national teams. I'm not unhappy with the appointment of Tuchel, but still rather see an English manager. It should the rule.
|
|
By:
It's not the rule though, and I think he's a good appointment for them, my concern is if I was English the players are not as good as made out to be, I was watching a wee bit of football nostalgia last night, it was Paul Scholes, do you think any of current squad could lace his boots ? BTW i'm not a Man U fan
|
|
By:
I agree that foreign coaches should be banned
and assistant coaches, etc, etc. But they are not, and we should get best coach available under the rules. If citeh, real, bayern, want a new manager what's the chances they get an engerlish man? We have an odd culture where intelligence in football is not cherished, whilst often it's simply kicked out in youth teams in favour of thugs. Same old arguments, decade after decade |

Not involved in fitba for a long, long time, but if you look it in regards greyhound racing, I could train a fast dog easily, but I couldn't rear a fast dog, there is probably too much resources paid at end game with respect to real young players development and I mean from 11 upwards, no doubt the coaches at real young level are dedicated, however if I ran a club, highly unlikely, I would pay top coaches to work with really young players.
I know people who work at big clubs who work with young players and without being disrespectful, they don't know the game, if you start badly you finish badly as we all know in greyhounds. |
