I'm not an england fan, but i do recognise the head coach position is of high stature in the game, and plenty would be interested.
My reference to cash would be buying out contracts, not just salary.

As i said previously betting on these markets you need to try and get into head of people selecting the candidate, I think carsley would be underwhelming appointment for england fans, potter and howe likewise, not saying they are bad coaches, not at all, but FA are playing to an upset audience.
I think they will splash the cash on this.

Problem for England's prospects is there is a mismatch with the FA approach and the current situation of the team.

The FA are very committed to long term goals and have been since about 2010.

There was the clock as the training facilty counting down for years to England winning the 2022 World Cup...

All about 'marginal gains' and 'planting seeds' that will bear fruit in 8-10 years time. And so they want a coach like Potter with some long term vision.

But England are not in a long term situation. Their requirements are very short term actually....

In NFL parlance they should be in 'Win Now' mode, not thinking about 8 years time. They have the players to win the World Cup in 2 years and the only thing holding them back is shyte, cautious  tactics.

They just need a manger who will get them attacking. And there seems a correlation with long term coaching badge merchants and very cautious tactics.

Manager hints his role at St James’ Park is in the balance, saying ‘we’re in the flux of change’

Newcastle’s players have spent part of the past week helping designers at their new shirt sponsors, Adidas, test embryonic footwear designs intended to hit the high street in five years. The question of where Eddie Howe may be in five weeks, let alone five months, has provided the backdrop to the time his team have just spent in pre-season training at the sportswear manufacturer’s European HQ near Nuremberg in southern Germany.

Workers on the extensive campus set in idyllic parkland routinely travel between meetings on the bicycles stationed all over the site and Newcastle’s manager has enjoyed whizzing around its vast acreage on two wheels.

Appearances can be deceptive and the apparently carefree Howe had much to ponder at a moment when he appears high on the Football Association’s shortlist to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager but faces a battle to retain the autonomy over recruitment and training strategy he has enjoyed since taking over at Newcastle in November 2021.

The departure of the former co-owner Amanda Staveley, a key Howe ally, and the installation of Paul Mitchell as director of football and James Bunce as performance director threaten to dilute the amount of control Howe has enjoyed at a club with Saudi Arabian majority ownership.

Eddie Howe, would be my choice by a country mile. He's on record as saying he'd love to Manage England. If he's been offered the job? He should grab it with both hands. Because this is still a group of players who have the required talent that can win something. Also there's no guarantee he'd get offered the job again and if he does will there be sufficient quality in the squad to win something? If he does well for England, he'll get plenty of offers at big Clubs if he wanted to return to club football. If he's offered the job? He MUST take it.

Kind of agree with this. I think two finals is pretty amazing. All these claims of 'who did we play' makes no sense. Their opponents were quarter, semi and finalists of a major tournament that earned their place to be there and knocked out 'bigger teams'.
