as lots of people have said on here it was advantageous for liverpool not to be in europe this seaon.

but to suggest that it somehow nullifies, devalues, or makes it an unworthy title is just the worst kind of sour grapes from bitter ant twisted people.

Dalglish: Liverpool, Southampton aided by no European football
16 November 2013

Kenny Dalglish believes Liverpool and Southampton are benefiting from not being involved in European competition this season.

The Scot - who led Liverpool to three league titles in his first managerial stint at Anfield between 1985 and 1991 - feels Manchester United's 1-0 victory over Arsenal last Sunday has put the champions back into contention for the title.

But the 62-year-old believes that with 11 games played in the Premier League this season, Liverpool and Southampton - who sit second and third respectively - must be considered among the contenders to win the league.

"A lot of the focus last weekend inevitably fell on Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal," Dalglish wrote in The Daily Mirror.

"It was a big win for United and their new manager David Moyes because it put them right back in the frame as title contenders.

"But I thought the teams that fared best were Southampton and Liverpool. They are the two sides that have been the surprise packages of the season so far.

"They look fresh and eager and I think they are both being helped by the fact they don’t have to worry about European football this season.

"Of course, you want to be involved in the Champions League and the Europa League, if you can, but sometimes you can use your absence from those competitions to your advantage.

A lot of Liverpool legends seem to know the score Wink.

An freak season where a team who would usually be considered a European qualifying team take advantage of circumstances and go on to win it .

Anyone who fails to agree pleae email -  Brendan Rodgers,Steven Gerrard,Kenny Dalglish,The waiter,Jose Mourinho,Arsene Wenger,Tim Sherwood  and may others .

The answer to your question is that without European football Chelsea ,Man City and probably Arsenal would have finished above Liverpool this season if they had just concentrated on the League ..

but was it liverpool not being in europe that made chelsae drop points at home to sunderland, west ham,and west brom?
every year the way the fixtures come out can be advantageous to certain clubs, for instance this season any team that played crystal palce early on, and newcastle late in the season had a distinct advantage over teams who played newcastle early and palce late.

was it lpool not being in europe that made city drop points to the likes of sunderland, sunderland and norwich?

no but if lpool were in europe they could've drop points against the teams that you mentioned above

Hunter, give the Russian billionaire's money a rest for a few years and you could have a stab at the league title from outside the top 6, in fact, probably from outside the top 12 Grin

they will be the first team in the premiership era that have won the league and not been in europe, so where is the evidence from the last 25 years that it is an advantage not being in Europe. Evidence not quotations of peoples thoughts if you could please.

Have Chelsea & City not also had an advantage by being able to blow other sides out of the water when it comes to buying players ? They took Willan off ourselves & Spurs last summer, & also beat us to Saleh in the January transfer window.

Chelsea fans. Sorry, some Chelsea fans, need to look at themselves, & their manager, should they fail to win the PL this year. Using Liverpool's non-participation in europe as a reason for our sudden & dramatic rise this season is only masking their own failings.

There are many reasons for success, but failure thrives amongst excuses.

We didn't win the league because we weren't good enough regardless of other teams, we struggle when teams set up well defensively and for that reason I fear for us against Atletico.

I'm confused. The Champions League and the Premiership are different tournaments. Simple as that.

They are separate. If a club chooses to enter both then that is their prerogative but it comes at a risk. You can minimise that risk by spending £300 million more than the team above you and playing defensive football - but you run the risk of becoming a laughing stock if you spunk King Croesus levels of cash and finish below a northern working class team.

Liverpool have purchased  nearly their whole squad, just enjoy your imminent success and as you've spent more than others doesn't mean you don't deserve it or your owners were wrong to fund transfers that others couldn't afford, when you were successful during the 80's the pools money helped Liverpool when others didn't have that luxury, times change,.

when you were successful during the 80's the pools money helped Liverpool

We might have had rich owners but we certainly didn't need their money. Our purchases came via money generated through the success we had on the pitch, & an excellent scouting system that brought in players like Clemence, Neal, Keegan, Case, Hansen, Nicol, Heighway etc. We also had, & still have, a very good youth policy that gave us players like Tommy Smith, Ian Callaghan, Phil Thompson, Sammy Lee & a few more. We bought Keegan for £35,000 & sold him 6 years later for £500,000. From that we paid Celtic £440,000 for Dalglish. So we ended up with a £35,000 profit & a shedload of league titles & European Cups.

Bob Paisley's net spend as a manager in his 9 years in charge amounted to 2.5 million. During that period he won 6 league titles, 3 European Cups, 1 UEFA Cup & 4 League Cups. To put his spending into perspective, the likes of City & Forest each paid a million pound for the likes of Reeves & Francis during Paisley's time as manager. The team he left went on to winning 3 trophies the year after he retired - European Cup, League title, & League Cup - & not one single was left from the side he inherited in 1974.

You see, this is why we're so proud of our history. We did it when money was irrelevant to a side's chances of success. Chelsea, & City, will never, ever, be able to say that.

i don't suppose city and chelsea fans are bothered about what lpool fans say about their history, and in my experience it's only really brought up when they want to try and score some spurious debating point when the team isnt doing that well.

the truth of the matter is that they were the richest english club due to them being virtually the only club recieving significant tv moneies because of their european success, and of course success begat success.

Dr I'm not disagreeing on that front, just don't want to turn into the type of wan ker that most of their fans have been for a long time by not being honest about another clubs achievement.
To say Liverpool never had the benefit of the pools, money is not true, they always got players because they had the backing of the Moores family on top of the money they generated.

Wow, what a ridiculous seething thread.

Liverpool were 33-1 and 7th last year. They failed to buy most of their pre season targets because they weren't in the champions league, i.e Costa, Willian, Mikhatarayan etc. And they have given British players a chance.

Much kudos, and any title win would be fully deserved. The coaching, style of football and the non reliance on a team glistening full of expensive purchases means if anything the win is even more remarkable.

It seems Chelsea fans have as much class and dignity as their manager. To knock others despite throwing countless £millions at it is noting short of pathetic.
